BEHOLD, the WORLD’S LONGEST PIZZA!

BEHOLD, MORTALS! The world’s longest pizza! This massive pizza was certified this week by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s longest pizza in Naples, Itally. It took over a 100 chefs 11 hours on specially designed stoves to make the mega-za that is 6082.2 feet / 1.15 miles long in Neapolitan style.

If you don’t get impressed by this, you also don’t like really cute puppies and sunny afternoons. If we would spend more time making pizza like this, we would be able to stop all the bad things in the world…maybe that is just the way I see it.

We here at 101WKQX stand by our commitment to all things piz and za with our recent blogged journey to the Chicago Pizza Summit in April where upcoming Riot Fest 2016 performer Andrew WK gave the keynote address. Check out that story here. and while we’re at it, enter to win Riot Fest passes here.

If Marconi stops showing up to the studio later this week, we know he will have left us to travel to Naples and show praise for this man-made wonder of sauce, bread, and cheese. Tweet us your thoughts @101WKQX about this magnificent milestone of marinera.  -@kevkellam

Damn, Daniel Craig! Looks like there will be a new James Bond

Daniel Craig is reportedly done being James Bond according to the Daily Mail, after turning down a major money offer from MGM. The English actor has played 007 since 2006, starring in 4 successful bond films including last year’s Spectre. The number Craig turned down was said to be in the neighborhood of $100 million for two more films as Bond with endorsement deals, an overall profit share, and producer role.

Craig was quite public about his disinterest about being film’s most famous secret agent on the press tour for Spectre when he told one interviewer than he would rather  “slash my wrists” than play the role again but would later back off that statement. Another reason he might turn down the role was that he was suffering a chronic knee injury which may have occurred during the filming of Spectre.

As if this news was not enough to process, there is widespread rumors today that Tom Hiddlestone who played Loki in the Avengers and Thor for Marvel, could possibly be next man to be shaken (but not stirred) into the role of James Bond. Hiddlestone was reported to be meeting with Bond director Sam Mendes earlier this week, but his representatives shot down the rumors. UK betting outfit Bookmaker Coral suspended bets placed on Hiddlestone getting the role after a huge amount was rapidly placed on him gaining the role this past weekend.

What do you think about the shake up with 007? Do you think Hiddlestone is the right man to play the role? Send us your thoughts on Twitter @101WKQX and FB.COM/101wkqx

Prophets Of Rage

Rage

More details out today on what looked like a possible Rage Against The Machine reunion… which is not exactly what is coming at us.

Tom Morello, Brad Wilk and Tim Commerford are involved, but Zach De La Rocha is not.

Add in Chuck D of Public Enemy and B Real of Cypress Hill, and you now have the Prophets of Rage.

The site prophetsofrage.com is actually working for me today, and I was able to put my email in.

The band will make its debut at the Hollywood Palladium on June 3rd, with a second show planned at the Whisky a Go-Go in Los Angeles.

A summer tour is also being considered.  More from Billboard.com HERE

Rage Against the Machine’s full lineup has not performed since July 2011.  I was lucky enough to see them at Voodoo Fest in New Orleans back in ’07. And I would LOVE a RATM reunion proper, but I am pretty stoked about the Prophets of Rage… what do you think?  Hit me on twitter: <3 @laurenoneil

Petition To Save Double Door Nears 15K Signatures As Trial Looms

ddpet

(from chicagoist.com)

It’s coming down to the wire for Double Door.

The Wicker Park club’s landlord, Brain Strauss, is still trying to evict the music venue, claiming they didn’t give him the proper notice they wanted to renew their lease. The club owners maintain they did, but have admitted that they did not send the request via certified mail, which has complicated matters when it comes to proving the timing of the renewal request. There’s already a real estate listing out on the club’s Wicker Park space. the Tribune reported that representatives from both sides met with a judge behind closed doors Thursday, and are continuing talks in hopes of keeping the case from going on trail on May 18. (READ MORE HERE)

I don’t pretend to know anything about the business goings on here, but I can only imagine the building owner is thinking about how much more money he can make with a new tenant paying much more each month. To that, look I totally understand it’s business blah blah blah. Being real though if you OWN a building in Wrigleyville I’m guessing you’re doing ok. So why not be the hero here and take a loss and save a local venue that means so much to us as music fans in Chicago. We love Double Door plain and simple. Maybe even MORE than you love money. 15K people is just a fraction of the love this place has. Don’t drag this out in a long expensive court process. Just come to an agreement and settle this like gentlemen OK!! GRAZIE!! – @marconibologna

Things to do in Chicago when you can’t sleep

cantsleep

(from timeout.com)

Noisy neighbors, barking dogs, passing ambulances—there’s no doubt you’ve spent many a sleepless night tossing and turning in Chicago. Whether the noise of the city is keeping you up or you’ve got a lot on your mind and just can’t sleep, take advantage of living in a city that has something to do every hour. Don’t waste another night counting sheep—we’ve some with an itinerary for anyone who suffers from a bit of insomnia.

9:30pm When you know it’s going to be a long night, you may as well start with a late dinner at one of Chicago’s 24-hour restaurants, like White Palace Grill, Lazo’s Tacos or Elly’s Pancake House.

10:15pm Maybe curling up with a new book is all you really need to catch some Zs. Lucky for you, Myopic Bookstore is open until 11pm every day.

10:45pm But wait, are you still hungry? Eat some great late-night food you can only get after 10pm in Chicago.

11:15 Okay, you should at least try to doze. Try relaxing with a movie that features Chicago.

11:45pm No? Fine. Just keep snacking then. Get to Scofflaw in time for a free, freshly baked chocolate chip cookie served at midnight.

12am Who can sleep after all the food you’ve had tonight? Catch a midnight film at Music Box Theatre.   (READ MORE HERE)

As a night DJ on 101 WKQX I’m always ambitious and have ideas of things I want to do after I get off the air at midnight. Usually I just end up going home thinking about how much I need to clean my apartment or go to the gym. After a few hours of that + searching for something to watch on Netflix I usually can only drift off to sleep when I start writing articles for the websiiiilkh oytyit…ZZZzzzzzzzzzzz – @marconibologna

Ferris Bueller’s bedroom at Virgin Hotels Chicago this weekend

fbb

(from timeout.com)

This weekend Ferris Fest kicks off in suburban Lake Forest and Northbrook, the home of the characters in John Hughes’s classic film, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Festivities include a 1986-themed dance, visits to filming locations and a special screening of the movies at the John & Nancy Hughes Theater. However, one of the event’s most anticipated attractions will be taking up residence in the Loop.

Organizers of the event previously announced that Ferris Fest attendees would be able to visit a painstaking re-creation of Ferris Bueller’s bedroom. Now, they’ve revealed that the bedroom will be hosted by Virgin Hotels Chicago and will be accessible even without a ticket to the festival. Admission to the bedroom, which will be on view from 9am to 5pm on May 20, 21 and 22, is $10 and can be purchased from the Ferris Fest website. (READ MORE HERE)

This movie is everything. I love watching it knowing where each scene was filmed and noticing how much Chicago has changed all the while it’s stayed wonderfully the same over the years. I will absolutley be visiting this room. If you end up going make sure to tag me on social media. Also I highly recommend Miss Ricky’s Diner inside the Virgin Hotel. It’s a bit more expensive but everything is fantastic and they have tons of great beer on tap. – @marconibologna

New Ghostbusters reboot trailer will not make you mad

GhostbusterHero-970-80

The first trailer for the ‘Ghostbusters’ trailer with an all-star all-female cast had some serious shade casted on it getting most thumbs-down of any trailer on Youtube, so how does a new trailer for the upcoming movie climb out of the internet slime of the first one?  Well it’s a little bit better and shows off some funnier jokes but why don’t you watch it and tell us yourself. Some spoilers are below the video, beware.

So the CGI effects look a lot better with dash of wonder to them. Slimer! Yep, he’s still gross. The jokes are notably funnier than the previous trailer’s knuckle-dragging prat falls which were most upsetting part about it for me. SNL star Leslie Jones really has a super-entertaining line here and interesting interaction with a demon. It’s a better trailer, and should have been the first reveal for the movie.

Still as a fan of the original films with Bill Murray and company, I am still drawn to seeing this in theaters when it comes out in July but I just won’t be rushing to see it with my proton pack on.

Now let the debate continue about the backlash against the new female GB movie being either completely sexism against the all female cast or just fans not happy with the content. Comedy Central’s Nightly Show did a really good job of roasting the trolls online with this commentary from Franchesca Ramsey. @kevkellam

Noel Gallagher wants a LOT of money for an Oasis reunion

e0a8ee8bbd09f89daa4d2536e9d000a0.1000x563x1

So with a lot of people legitimately freaking out over a possible Rage Against the Machine return, it appears that beloved UK band Oasis is not on any track for a reunion of any kind according to Noel Gallagher. Now if you got a couple million dollars laying around, he would do it.

Speaking with the Daily Star recently with news coming out about an Oasis documentary called ‘Supersonic’ the rock artist put a hefty price tag on a potential return to the stage with his brother Liam and company, he said “For 20 million quid, one gig – that is good money isn’t it?,” Noel told the outlet. “But I have never had that offer from anyone yet.”

WOW. um… that is a lot of money. You can enjoy the Gallaghers for a lot less in this video from a 1994 set at the Metro.

When asked about Oasis breaking up, Noel pointed the finger squarely at Liam noting his nasty attitude. Noel has stayed active with his side band High Flying Birds.

If your a sucker for classic alt like Oasis, check out Alt_Backspace every Sunday 10a-12pm CST on 101WKQX or listen on-demand here.

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE!!!

Apparently there is a countdown running at prophetsofrage.com, I wouldn’t know because all morning the site has been giving me this message:

message

🙁

According the Spin.com the timer is up June 1st. And if you enter your email address it replies back “Clear the way for the prophets of rage,” which is a Public Enemy lyric from the song “Prophets of Rage.”

What a great time in this political climate for this band to make a resurgence.  And with Public Enemy?!?

DC Comics’ Universe Is Expanding

ssqaud
The Suicide Squad hasn’t even been released yet, but DC is already planning on expanding their universe! Although we don’t have a title, this new movie will only feature DC female heroes and villains according to a source close to DC. We do know though that the main focus of this film will be on Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn character from Suicide Squad. Not only would Robbie be starring in this new DC film, but she will also be helping produce it! You can read more about this new DC movie HERE!

Are you excited to see DC feature an all female hero and villain cast?

FOX bringing ‘Lethal Weapon’ to TV

Lethal-Weapon-FOX-Image

Riggs & MurTaugh will ride again but they can not say they are “too old for this <censored>” on network TV.  Hollywood Reporter revealed today that ‘Lethal Weapon’ will come back later this year as a series on FOX. Damon Wayans Sr. will play aging Los Angeles police detective Roger Murtaugh and Clayne Crawford will be the loose cannon Martin Riggs. The TV reboot has been public news since last year but intial talk was it would end up on CBS to replace the void in the hearts of ‘CSI’ fans.

FOX executives confirmed the news in their upfront presentations for advertisers and business partners this week, with executive Dana Walder calling the adapted series “muscular,” “high-octane” and “very broadly appealing.”  If it’s even slightly like the original 80’s buddy cop adventure starring Danny Glover and Mel Gibson, it might be able to avoid failing like recent Film-to-TV adaptions like  ‘Minority Report’ series.

Director Shane Black and producer Joel Silver who were involved with the original LW film series commented on the upcoming series while doing the media rounds for another buddy action comedy project ‘the Nice Guys’ due out in theaters this Friday.

Adapting a film to TV or vice versa can be a real challenge. Here is WatchMojo’s countdown of the best movies taken from TV series. The number 5 pick totally works and improves on the original. If you got a better idea let us know on Twitter and Facebook. Watch you will name one, and I will be like “AH, Man why didn’t I think of that?”

Chicago Could Get Its Very Own Beer Museum With An On-Site Bar

chi-brew-seum

(from chicagoist.com)

The Lucas Museum may be on its way out of Chicago, but a new, more Chicago-specific museum is coming to fill the void: the Chicago Brewseum, a museum of beer. With a house bar, of course.

The project is still in the early stages—they just launched a GoFundMe—but the Brewseum has some of the biggest names in Chicago beer on its side. Board members include John Hall, founder of Goose Island Brewery, and Josh Deth, founder of Revolution Brewing. (READ MORE HERE)

I guess if we enjoy a few less beverages we could help add to the GoFundMe campaign?? Would this Brewseum include the history of Chicago brews and maybe a special edition of beers you could only get at the Brewseum bar? A honey lemon twisted Old Style light draft or maybe a 312 Brewseum IPA?? So many ideas. The name is so far the best thing I’ve ever heard. GO BREWSEUM GO!! – @marconibologna
