William Patrick Corgan Is Billy Again

(from stereogum.com)

For over two years now, Billy Corgan has been fighting an uphill battle against being Billy Corgan. Although he originally released his recent solo album Ogilala under the name William Patrick Corgan, a very serious adult name for a very serious adult musician, Pitchforkreports that he’s finally given in and admitted that his name is and always will be Billy. Ogilala is now credited to Billy Corgan on Spotify, Apple Music, and every other streaming service, his Vevo account on YouTube has gone from WilliamPCorganVEVO to BillyCorganVEVO, and even the album’s cover art, which once proudly bore a WPC monogram, has been changed to reflect Billy’s once and future status as Billy (see below). William Patrick is dead, long live Billy!

David Bowie Documentary To Air On HBO in 2018

(from diffuser.fm)

Earlier this year, Francis Whately’s documentaryDavid Bowie: The Last Five Years, premiered on the BBC. A month later, HBO acquired the U.S. rights and they will broadcast it next year.

Thew film chronicles the work Bowie spent on his last two albums, 2013’s The Next Day and 2016’s Blackstar, and the Lazarus off-Broadway musical. However, as Whately told Rolling Stone, he was unable to get an interview with the famously private star. “I had sleepless nights thinking, ‘How am I going to fill 90 minutes without any footage?’ ” Whately, who also made a documentary in 2013 called David Bowie: Five Years, said. “I was really worried.”

Sarah Silverman on Louis C.K’s sexual misconduct: ‘I Love Louis, but He Did These Things’

The wave of sexual misconduct unfortunately continues with some of Hollywood’s favorite stars being accused and in some cases, these stars are issuing apologies. Last week the New York Times revealed that comedy giant Louis C.K. had been accused of awful things by 5 women who have interacted with him through comedy work, Louis then responded with apology to confirm the allegations were true. Louie in his long career in comedy has made many friends, with one of them being Sarah Silverman.

Silverman spoke on the issue on Hulu show “I Love You, America.”  Her statement is dusted with some dark humor, but it is still very sobering and meaningful. Please note it has some adult language but it is edited with bleeps.

“One of my best friends of over 25 years, Louis C.K., masturbated in front of women,” she continued. “He wielded his power with women in f—ed up ways, sometimes to the point where they left comedy entirely. I could couch this with heartwarming stories of our friendship and what a great dad he is, but that’s totally irrelevant, isn’t it? Yes, it is. It’s a real minf***, because I love Louis. But Louis did these things. Both of those statements are true. So I just keep asking myself, ‘Can you love someone who did bad things? Can you still love them?’ I can mull that over later certainly, because the only people that matter right now are the victims. They are victims and they are victims because of something he did. So I hope it’s OK that I am, at once, very angry for the women he wronged and the culture that enabled it, and also sad, because he’s my friend. But I believe with all my heart that this moment in time is essential. It’s vital that people are held accountable for their actions, no matter who they are. We need to be better. We will be better. I can’t f***ing wait to be better.”

Watch Jonathan Toews “Toews-ter” vs. Wayne Gretzky’s toaster

Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews is going to have his own “Toews-ter.” It toasts bread even though he doesn’t eat bread, because he’s a high caliber athlete. This funny ad for the toaster which is emblazoned with his million dollar smile on the side is a real product you can buy. This brilliant toaster is going on sale on November 20th and it will benefit Canadian Tire’s Jumpstart Charities, which helps give kids a chance to participate in sports.

In the same charity campaign, the ‘Great One’ Wayne Gretzky is also hawking a toaster dubbed ‘the Great Toaster’.  The NHL legend claims his toaster has won “4 Stanley Crusts”.

Sorry Wayne, we are sticking with Captain Serious!

Save The Orphanage – A Benefit To Help Rebuild La Casa De Todos

A couple friends of mine with huge hearts for Puerto Rico are holding a silent auction extravaganza Monday night at Cobra Lounge to raise money to save an orphanage in Juncos, PR 🇵🇷

“The orphanage is running out of money and in danger of closing. They need cash to pay employees or they will close. They had to sell a generator just to stay open. Watch the reviews come in for ‘JUSTICE LEAGUE’ and it is….

The reviews are coming in for the anticipated and under pressure DC Cinematic Universe all-star team up, ‘JUSTICE LEAGUE’. Will DC’s equivalent to Marvel’s Avengers deliver? Can it correct the course that some superhero fans wanted after ‘Batman vs Superman’? Can it continue the positive momentum laid out in last year’s smash-hit ‘Wonder Woman’?

On top of that the production of the film has been attached to a lot of different issues including director Zach Synder leaving the film during re-shoots due to his daughter’s tragic suicide, ‘Avengers’ director Joss Whedon stepping in, and Ben Affleck (Batman) reportedly wanting to get out of the cape and cowl in a future DC movie.

The respected movie review voices of Youtube from Beyond the Trailers, SchmoesKnows, and Chris Stuckman are all chiming in with details review which give the super team film pretty good reviews, but some seem short of calling it great. Rotten Tomatoes has yet to put an aggregated score for the film yet, but they have put together a run of initial reviews from critics here.

Are you excited for this? I am and hope it delivers.

Warped Tour announces 2018 will be it’s final cross country trip

Today Warped Tour announced that 2018 will be it’s final year as a cross-country tour. Warped Tour found Kevin Lyman made the news official on Twitter. In a statement on the tour’s website Lyman clarified why this is happening to the alternative touring music festival and what Warped has been able to achieve in it’s 23 years on the road in the summer.

“I have been a very lucky person to have traveled across the country and sometimes around the world as one of the founders and producers of the Vans Warped Tour. Today, with many mixed feelings, I am here to announce that next year will be the final, full cross-country run of the Vans Warped Tour. I sit here reflecting on the tour’s incredible history, what the final run means for our community, and look forward to what’s to come as we commemorate the tour’s historic 25th anniversary in 2019.” said Lyman.

Fans and bands  of Warped have expressed their sadness about the last trek on social media.

Warped Tour has been a big part of the careers of alternative icons like Green Day, Blink-182, Sublime, the Offspring, and many more. It has also helped launch waves of bands that would go on to success outside of the alt world with Kid Rock, No Doubt, and the Black Eyed Peas all spending time on the sweaty annual hootenanny.

It will be interesting to see how Warped Tour evolves. This is pure speculation but it would not surprise this late 90’s/early 2000’s kid to see Warped evolve into a destination festival like Riot Fest.

Warped Tour will come to Chicago area on July 21st.

Warped Tour

Kevin Lyman, the founder of Vans Warped Tour, has announced that after 23 years, 2018 will be the final, full cross-country run of the Vans Warped Tour  on vanswarpedtour.com:

“I have been a very lucky person to have traveled across the country and sometimes around the world as one of the founders and producers of the Vans Warped Tour. Today, with many mixed feelings, I am here to announce that next year will be the final, full cross-country run of the Vans Warped Tour. I sit here reflecting on the tour’s incredible history, what the final run means for our community, and look forward to what’s to come as we commemorate the tour’s historic 25th anniversary in 2019.

In 1995, I had already worked many years in the music business, including spending four summers on the Lollapalooza tour, and I thought, ‘for one summer I would like go out and put on my own show’ mixing music and action sports. With the support of so many people, I have now spent the last 23 summers bringing that show to a city near you. We have brought that show to over 11 million people around the world and watched that same world change while doing so.

I have been proud to work with so many artists who have grown to be some of the largest stars in the world. Countless bands have played in hot parking lots and through summer storms for you at some point.

Bands like Quicksand, Sublime, L7, No Use for A Name and No Doubt jumped on in the very first year.

Touring many summers with my friends and peers like – Pennywise, Social Distortion, NOFX, Bad Religion, The Descendents, Less Than Jake, Dropkick Murphy’s, The Bouncing Souls, Rancid, Flogging Molly, Anti-Flag and The Offspring are just some of my fondest memories. More include, having Blink-182 travel on my bus in 1997 when the world opened up to them and made them the superstars they are today.

The Vans Warped Tour was the platform to witness the rise of pop punk with Sum 41, Simple Plan, MXPX, New Found Glory and Good Charlotte.

The birth of Emo – with bands like Thrice, Thursday, The Used, Taking Back Sunday, The Starting Line, Motion City Soundtrack and Jimmy Eat World.

Fast-forward to the summer in 2005 when TRL and Warped Tour helped launch the careers of Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance and Avenged Sevenfold.

I witnessed Warped alumni like The Black Eyed Peas, Katy Perry, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, No Doubt and even Kid Rock play the Super Bowl. I’ve even had the pleasure of seeing Green Day play the Rose Bowl.

More recently, I’ve watched bands start out on a small stage and work their way up to the main stages by meeting as many fans as possible and continuing to hone their craft while on the tour. Bands like Paramore, A Day To Remember, Sleeping With Sirens, Pierce The Veil, Echosmith, Motionless in White, Black Veil Brides, Every Time I Die, Neck Deep, Beartooth and so many more.

What has always made me proud was when I read that Warped was the most diverse show of the summer where you could find Eminem and Ice-T on the same stages as Sevendust, Pennywise, and 7 Seconds.

I am so grateful to have worked with more than 1,700 bands over the last 23 summers. I wish I could thank every band that has played the tour.

The Vans Warped Tour has become the community I had always hoped for. We have worked with over 90 non-profits each summer shining a light on new and growing groups giving our community the resources they need to connect with people who can help them, but also encourages our community to help each other. To Write Love on Her Arms, Music Saves Lives, Feed The Children Now, Keep a Breast, Hope For The Day, Canvas Foundation, Living The Dream and A Voice for the Innocent have built their organizations from the Warped Tour parking lots across the country. This even inspired me to start my own foundation Unite the United.

The work we do each summer on “give back days” has become part of our DNA. My brain is etched with the image of the church ladies after Katrina serving beans and rice to The Casualties with their upright mohawks, finding a common ground where no one was judging anyone. Then finding out the only working business in the county seemed to be the moonshine still and the locals showing up with a crate to share with the crew later that evening.

The long hot days that ended around a BBQ with food, drink and more music are some of the best times. Enjoying the days off, taking people jet boating, house boating, river rafting and sometimes even skydiving. I witnessed lifelong friendships being made, sparks of romance that led to ‘Warped weddings,’ and unfortunately now, more notices of passings where a proper good bye was not able to be said.

I want to thank my supportive family who has been through the highs and lows, Darryl Eaton at CAA, Steve Van Doren and Vans, Kate, Julie, Allison and Steph. My hard ass working crew who puts that show up and down each day, the sponsors which without them this tour would not happen, the bands and their crews, the promoters who took a risk on us at the beginning and continue to be supportive.

It will be bittersweet each morning when I see the sun rise and then watch it set knowing that this will be the last time I get to witness it from that exact spot.

Though the tour and the world have changed since ’95, the same feeling of having the ‘best summer ever’ will live on through the bands, the production teams, and the fans that come through at every stop.

The enduring spirit of the Vans Warped Tour remains as bright as ever, continuing to inspire creativity and ambition in new and exciting ways as we prepare for a 25th anniversary celebration in 2019.

I truly look forward to seeing as many of you as possible during this final cross country run, and getting to thank you for your support on this wild adventure. Until then, take care and be safe.”   – Kevin Lyman (Founder of the Vans Warped Tour)
