Treat yourself to free dinner at The Wiener’s Circle thanks to a state department clerical error

wcFREE

(from redeyechicago.com)

Despite the Illinois Department of Revenue’s attempt to call off the dogs for the day, The Wiener’s Circle (2622 N. Clark St.) will not shut down due to a notice prohibiting it from making sales caused by a paperwork mix-up, according to managing partner Carl Carbone. Because the stand can’t sell hot dogs today, it’s giving them away for free, while supplies last. (READ MORE HERE)

Prophets of Rage make their live debut in California

Cj0rrx7UUAEcZlg

A few weeks back the world wanted to know if an online rumor-mill was going to usher back the timely return of Rage Against the Machine in an election year, but what we got was something slightly different, unique, and more than the expected with acclaimed MCs B-Real of Cypress Hill and Chuck D of Public Enemy combining forces with RATM’s guitarist Tom Morello, drummer Brad Wilk and bassist Tim Commerford. The group operating under the provocative name Prophets of Rage, took the stage for their live debut last night at L.A.’s Whiskey-a-Go-Go to a captive sold-out crowd. Based on early reviews, it seems like the politically-charged mash-up is delivering the goods.

As was expected the group heavily aimed their musical weaponry at Republican candidate Donald Trump, going as far as to offering ‘Make America Rage Again’ satirical trucker hats playing at their merch table. This targeting of Trump continued with Chuck D proclaiming before POR went into an on-point cover of the Beasite Boy’s classic ‘No Sleep ’til Brooklyn’,  “No Sleep ’til Cleveland”. This could be a veiled tease reference to a very rumored show the band may be putting on in Cleveland, Ohio during the GOP convention in July.

Obliviously a lot of fans are still thinking why RATM front man Zach Del Roca is not just back for a full fledged reunion and that elephant in the room was addressed on stage. “There’s always a seat warm for Zack De La Rocha,” said Chuck D according to a detailed live review by Consequences of Sound.  Let’s see where that issue goes.

According to a live report from Rolling Stone, the all-star band performed this set which mixed together music from Cypress Hill, Public Enemy, and Rage Against the Machine. Note the show did feature two new songs written solely for this collaboration “The Party’s Over” and “Shut Them Down”.

“Prophets of Rage” (Public Enemy)
“Guerilla Radio” (Rage Against the Machine)
“Bombtrack” (RATM)
“Miuzi Weighs a Ton” (PE)
“People of the Sun” (RATM)
“Take the Power Back” (RATM)
“Rock Superstar” (Cypress Hill)
“Testify” (RATM)

Public Enemy/Cypress Hill medley:
“Shoot Em Up”
“Can’t Trust It”
“Insane in the Membrane”
“Bring the Noise”
“I Ain’t Going Out Like That”
“Welcome to the Terrordome”

“Sleep Now in the Fire” (RATM)
“Shut Them Down” (Prophets of Rage)
“Know Your Enemy” (RATM)
“The Party’s Over” (Prophets of Rage)
“No Sleep ‘Til Brooklyn”/”Fight the Power” (Beastie Boys/Public Enemy)
“Bulls on Parade” (RATM)
“Killing in the Name” (RATM)

Prophets of Rage is scheduled for another talked-about show in LA this week at the Hollywood Paladium and their officiial website is teasing a countdown to another announcement in 4 days.

For those of you RATM fans who might still be undecided on whether or not to take the power back with this new band, here is a classic throwback to Rage performing at the Aragon from JBTV.  @kevkellam

Brian & Lou, and the Missing Mic…

Who could be so evil that they would take Brian and Lou’s prize possession? Whoever it is, its going to take some “super” abilities to find the culprit! …Although the hands kinda give it away… or do they?!

Cubs World Series Champs Tattoo… Sort of

Dean Masini, a diehard Cubs fan, decided to jump the gun and get his World Series Championship ink done early. He did it last november! But, he did leave some wiggle room. Instead of fully committing to 2016 he has until 2019 for the north siders to win it all. DNAinfo.com had this pic and more of the story…

Russian Bear a Part of the Family

Bear
A couple in Russian started raising this orphaned bear 23 years ago. Now, he’s basically a 7ft dog. He hangs in te house, on the couch, even at the table. And, like most bears, he likes to watch TV.

Inside Saved By The Max!

I was SO EXCITED to be able to check out Saved By The Max, the Saved By The Bell themed pop-up diner and bar in Wicker Park Sunday night, and it was everything I hoped and dreamed it would be!  One caveat with the soft opening; no phones and no pictures inside the diner.  I gladly handed mine over and witnessed (and experienced) REAL HUMAN INTERACTION.  It was glorious.  Therefore, the only picture I have to show you from Sunday is this:

Thankfully for you, Vogue published a full spread and you can see Saved By The Max in all it’s glory HERE.

Dan Akroyd praises the new Ghostbusters reboot

dangb

So there is a lot of nerdy unrest across the web over the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot with an all-female ‘busting team. The first trailer released on Youtube a few month gained a record-breaking amount of ‘thumb down’ votes, sparking a debate of whether the outrage over the film is it’s content or a sexist response to the female cast.  The stink for the new movie continued with a fan-made cartoon of the original film’s boss monster the Stay Puff Marshmellow Man having a not-so-favorable response the reboot. You might say that this type of ‘busting does not make him feel good. The second trailer came out last week and the debate is still flaming up, you can see that new trailer here.

Well one of the original Ghostbusters Dan Akroyd who participated in the upcoming movie, threw an insightful stance on the movie up on his Facebook this weekend.

“As originator of the original: Saw test screening of new movie. Apart from brilliant, genuine performances from the cast both female and male, it has more laughs and more scares than the first 2 films plus Bill Murray is in it! As one of millions of man-fans and Ray Stantz, I’m paying to see that and bringing all my friends!” – Dan Akroyd

Will this endorsement from Ray Stantz himself ease fears of this reboot being a dud or will it simply aggravate more people? What do you think of the new Ghostbusters movie due out in theaters on July 15th? Tweet us at @101WKQX and let us know.

I Want To Go Fast!

The Cincinnati Zoo had an extra GoPro hanging around so they decided to attach it to a Cheetah! I knew that Cheetahs were fast, but man I didn’t know they were that fast! Check out the video below!

I think it’s safe to say they have been laying off those cheese flavored snacks! Who would win in a race, Bear or the Cheetah?

You can call a number & apply to join the X-Men!

maxresdefault

So this weekend sees the release of the mutant-powered blockbuster ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ which takes place in the 1980’s and sees Professor Xavier lead a group of his students of ‘School For Gifted Youngsters’ against the mega-evil monster Apocalypse. Since the school pushes a bit of ’80s nostaglia 20th Century Fox posted a faux commercial for this school a few weeks including a 1-800 number just like the ones used to sell anything back in the day. Now it’s gets better when over 75,000 voice mails poured into the number, Fox put together a highlight video. The results are quite fun and hilarious for comic book geeks and just the novice fans of the ‘X-Men’ movies. Deadpool makes an appearance where asks for Jean Grey’s number. Check out both videos posted below. @kevkellam

Jimmy Fallon, Maya Rudoplh, & Martin Short in a silly Chicago PD spoof

jimmy-maya

On last night’s ‘Tonight Show’ host Jimmy Fallon with comedy legend Martin Short and SNL alum Maya Rudoplh  shared a fake flashback to an 80’s Chicago-based cop drama ‘The Windy City Blue’ that never really existed but was pretty funny none the less. These are the type of sketches Fallons pulls off the best, the tongue deep in the cheek and showing how much fun he is having with fellow TV pals.

As someone who grew up in a Chicago Police family, I am pretty sure officers don’t get grow their hair that long or deal with that much silly string on a daily basis.

‘Marty & Maya’ a new variety comedy show with Short & Rudoplh will debut on Tuesday 9pm with special guests Tom Hanks, Larry David, Miley Cyrus, and Fallon returning for the fun. If this video is any type of teaser, this show will be a hoot. – @Kevkellam
