FIREWORK FAILS: Don’t do any of this

For some running around with a playful sparkler or watching professional pyro technicians put on an extravagant show for huge crowds is not enough,. You know sonmeone who has had a replaced squirt gun fight by shooting off Roman candles at each other. The guy who wants to see if he can shoot a bottle rocket off from inside his nose. Hey, we didn’t say it was smart, did we?

Here is a collection of fun firework fails culled across from the ‘tubes of the internet.

Be safe out there. Just eat a hot dog and chill.

AMERICA: Moon Race Champions FOREVER!

MOON RACE CHAMPIONS

The 4th of July is a celebration of America as a country and our accomplishments as a free country but for me it’s not about looking up at the sky oooing and aaahing at fireworks, the ultimate awesome American accomplishment to this dreamer kid is the NASA Apollo 11 mission which put two of our own on the Moon. The United States of America were crowned Moon Race Champions FOREVER on July 20th 1969. It was a very turbulent time in our country;s history at least we had the overall communal expierence of watching two human beings conqueror the thing in our sky that has teased us since we crawled up from the primordial ooze of Earth. The Moon landing is one of the most amazing scientific endeavors in history.

NASA continues to push the boundaries of the beyond today with climax of a 6 year mission to the planet Jupiter as the Juno spacecraft prepares for a 53 days orbit of the ‘Gas Giant’..

Here is long form live coverage from CBS of the Moon landing as it happened. it’s moving to see the world as we know stand still and watch everyone, experience in real time. It doesn’t hurt that acclaimed TV news authority Walter Cronkite is hosting it all either.

This is a neat video which shows off the video game I have always wanted, the Apollo 11 VR. I wan this really bad, Santa if your reading this, Get me this.

I Scream For Ice Cream!

We all remember running down the street when we heard those magical tunes coming from what looked like a broken down truck. Yes you guessed it, I am talking about chasing those amazing Ice Cream Trucks that had all of our favorite summer treats on board. I bet you can still name them all, the sundae cone, strawberry bars, the baseball glove on a stick, the chocolate taco, the list goes on and on. There were so many treats to try to in such short amount of time, that we would always resort back to our favorites and not try any others.

Due to that lack of time that we had when we were kids, a group has been so kind to do all the tasting for us and rank the top 12 Ice Cream Truck Treats that one could want. Of course some of us may disagree on how they ranked the essentials, because I was shocked to see my favorite, the ice cream sandwich, come in at #5! If you want to see how they ranked the other 11 essential Ice Cream Truck treats, click HERE!

Once you see how they ranked them, go ahead and let us know what flavors would be in your top 12!

Prophets of Rage are going to bring it!

PoR black654x372Prophets of Rage (Rage Against the Machine with Chuck D or Public Enemy and B Real from Cypress Hill) just released a video of Killing In The Name from their show at the Palladium in Hollywood a month ago.  Safe to say, they still bring it!

Watching the crowd writhe reminds me of the first ever Stabbing Westward show we played after getting signed… opening up for Rage in NYC.  Biggest pits I ever saw!

Prophets of Rage will stop at Hollywood Casino Amphitheater on September 3rd.  Tix still available. -wALT

Jingle Me This

Riot Fest is great and all, but it really needs something… a JINGLE!  Great news, they are running a contest for one.  Write a great 30 second jingle and perform it ONSTAGE AT RIOT FEST!

For 30 seconds.

Now if you will excuse me, I am off to grab my cowbell and get this jingle knocked out.

AMERICA CONQUERORS OUTER SPACE: Weezer loves NASA, so they wrote a tribute song

WEEZEROUTERSPACE

Weezer continues to be happy doing only things they can do like writing a trippy tribute to NASA and the American conquests of our galaxy. The band with collaborator Atticus Ross were asked to pen a song by NASA, in honor of the 4th of July orbit of the planet Jupiter by the Juno spacecraft. The patriotic song “I Love the USA” features some naughty words repeatedly and is overall a fun lighthearted song but has this soaring guitar solo with layered background vocals that make it all really fulfilling. Sample lyric : “I love the USA/ F*c*k yeah, this place is great!”

Other songs for the Jupiter 4th of July occasion were commissioned by NASA and Apple Music. The most notable other contribution comes from Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor who worked with Ross on the track simply called “Juno”. The airy song features actually recordings of the planet Jupiter ‘singing’. You can get it on iTunes.

The one-off single comes weeks after the release of ‘the White Album’ and helps remind us they will soon be in our ‘universe’ at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater with Panic at the Disco and Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness on July 10th. So of course we are giving you a shot at FRONT-ROW tickets to the show here.

As someone is deeply fascinated with space travel and loves to throw the ‘W’ finger symbol up when possible, this is a great combo. It’s like peanut butter and chocolate coming together for the first time. It would be neat to see Rivers Cuomo and company perform this in outer space?! oh wonder if they are going to headline PIQNIQ 2076 …ON THE MOON! Yes, the Moon it just seems inevitable that we’ll be putting on shows on the 51st State of USA.
