Roommates you’ll have when you live in Chicago

(from timeout.com Photograph: Courtesy CC/Wikimedia Commons)

Between finding a place that isn’t a complete dump and making sure you’re in the the right neighborhood for you, moving to Chicago is probably one of the more stressful things you’ll do in your lifetime. And because Chicago is one of the most expensive rental markets in the country, chances are you’ll need a roommate to turn your dream of moving out of your parents’ basement into a reality. That dream can quickly turn into a nightmare if the person you choose turns out to be a slob or one of those people who needs to blast Bassnectar during their morning routine. So if you’re feeling a little funky about your next bunky, check out this list of roommates you’ll have in Chicago.

1. The one who commandeers the living room every Monday night for The Bachelor or The Bachelorette watch parties

2. The one who leaves dried-up, uncovered leftovers in the fridge for weeks on end

3. The one who has a friend with a boat in Belmont Harbor

4. The one whose boyfriend or girlfriend moves in without ever actually talking it over or paying any rent

5. The one who sets the thermostat to “arctic” regardless of the weather

6. The one who sells drugs out of the living room

Wanna Buy The First Base From The Cubs’ Game 7 Win? It’ll Cost Ya

(from chicagoist.com AP Photo/Charlie Riedel)

The Cubs’ heart-clenching, anxiety-ratcheting rollercoaster Game 7 win of the World Series last year probably cost us a few years of life. If you’re looking for the perfect relic from that ultra-historic Cubbie-blue victory, it’ll cost you quite a bit of green. The first base used in the later innings of the decisive final game—the one Anthony Rizzo stomped to end 108 years of misery—is currently up for sale at MLB Auctions. (MORE HERE)

This app wants you to buy tickets last minute

(from mashable.com)

When you’re friend from out of town asks if you have a connection to get tickets where would you go? SeatGeek is pretty great for last minute ticket obtaining. Another great option is GameTime.  In a matter of minutes, you’ll have your tickets and all of them on your phone. This is the use case that Gametime is trying to serve — social, last minute, and seamless.

“We’re the best last-minute tool for sports and shows and theater,” said Brad Griffith, Gametime founder and CEO. “Compared to the competition, we appeal mostly to a younger demographic who does more in life and wants to do more with friends. We really own this last-minute category in the ticketing industry.”

Surely, they aren’t the biggest ticket reseller and perhaps they never will be. But Colin Evans, Gametime’s chief revenue officer, who was also one of the founding members of StubHub, doesn’t see that ranking as an issue. Griffith, Evans, and their team based in San Francisco (with about 80 employees) are determined to own a new market. (MORE HERE)

This Is The Biggest Chicago Hot Dog We’ve Ever Seen

We love our Chicago-style hot dogs, but some people really, really love them. Like this guy, who is pretending to down the largest Chicago-style dog we’ve ever seen. This thing is so huge, it must have depleted the local sport pepper supply!

This originally showed up on Reddit, and some internet digging suggested that the man who is about to be in hotdog bliss land is likely Chef Michael Simmons of Cafe Marie-Jeanne. Also, his tattoo matches his photo on the restaurant’s webpage. READ MORE

Reminder: Sean Spicer Was Once the Easter Bunny

Hey, we’ve all had jobs — especially side gigs — that we may not exactly highlight on our resumes.

This Easter, a reminder:  White House press secretary Sean Spicer once twice played the Easter Bunny.

Back in 2008, Spicer was still climbing the political ladder, working as a media/public affairs assistant in one of the many executive offices of the George W. Bush administration.  Somehow — as a volunteer or being “volun-told” — Spicer donned the suit for the White House Easter Egg Rolls.

He was even interviewed!  A Politico blog from 2008 captured his thoughts:

The dues you must pay — from bunny to press secretary.  I don’t know which job is worse.  Nor better.  — [eric]

Reviews are in for ‘The Fate of the Furious’

The big blockbuster ridiculousness that is ‘The Fate of the Furious’ hit theaters this weekend with many wondering whether or not Dom and his ‘FAMILY’ can come back together or if the Rock is going to drive a muscle car through a bunch of stuff. This pre-summer popcorn action romp is the 8th film in the series, and it’s got a lot of expectations after the last film raked in hundred of millions around the world. So what are the reviews?

Currently Rotten Tomatoes is giving it a middle rating of 64% but reviews have never slowed ‘Fast and Furious’ from blowing stuff up on the big screen with box office success. Youtube movie guru Christ Stuckman reviewed the movie in his wife’s car because he stole it, he’s a runner now like Dom.

VIDEO: Radiohead play through sound problems at Coachella

Radiohead powered through major sound problems in Indio, California as the headliner of the first night of this year’s Coachella festival with hundreds of thousands watching in person and more all around the world tuning into live streams online. The tech issues caused two separate breaks in the legendary UK band’s set forcing them to stop playing. Apparently during the second interruption, singer Thom Yorke blamed the whole thing on otherworldly forces, joking that it was “F**king aliens again,” according to some reports.

But fans of the band can be relieved to know RH finally played their signature track ‘Creep’ in a big festival set. Our buds Conesquences of Sound have a full detailed review with details on the tech issues and how the band recovered.

Here is Radiohead’s setlist from last night

GAME OVER: Nintendo discontinues the NES Classic Edition

OH MAN, REALLY? The much-desired NES Classic released in November by Nintendo was a retro-gaming dream, but that dream is apparently going to be no more as the company announced yesterday they would discontinue the console. The NES Classic was initially planned to be a limited-release device only for the holiday season, but demand for it was so high many retailers could barely keep it in stock. According to IGN News, Nintendo has sold 1.5 million units. Hopefully this only temporary and we could see the Classic return in some form.

If you are unaware of how great this console, check out this video from Cinemassacre.
