Jack White unearthed two classic White Stripes songs “Love Is the Truth” and “You’ve Got Her In Your Pocket,” on Friday for a performance on ‘The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon’. White is pushing his new compilation album ‘Acoustic Recordings 1998-2016’ which out now. It features rare songs, remixes, and different versions of established tracks throughout White’s career.
White looks like an emotive protagonist in a dark Tim Burton movie here when he sings the words “I want to keep you in my pocket”. It’s just heartwarming and moving at the same time to see feeling in every note in this subtle performance.
Jack and host Jimmy Fallon talk about how a stewardess on a plan told him that while in New York he should get tickets to the ‘Tonight Show’. Well, looks like he made it.

Comedian/filmmaker Jeff Seal is breaking rules and having fun in this adventure video where he illegally rides freight trains in the Northeast. He delightfully narrates his journeys of sneaking onto trains as he films all of it with a go-pro on his head which makes him look like a lovable goof. As a CTA rider, Seal latching himself to a city public train door as it closes and riding on the side of the train is utterly terrifying but this guy is just too much fun to get really mad at. NOTE: There is some NSFW language and it goes without saying, DO NOT TRY ANY OF THIS! I
It’s kind of crazy he’s not serving a real jail sentence or suffering from any injuries, as train-hopping is incredibly dangerous. Driving down Pulaski near Midway airport on the Southside, I would always look into the rail yards and think how likely it was people were trying to ride the freights around the country like this.
Rising Chicago-area comedian Chris Redd has been widely reported by multiple sources today to have been cast in the 42nd season of television institution ‘Saturday Night Live’. Redd who cut his teeth in comedy with Second City, iO Stand Up, and Jokes & Notes on the Southside. Redd has been coming up hard in the business of show recently with appearances on ‘Empire’, ‘Chicago P.D’ and a featured role this year in SNL alum Andy Sandburg’s “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping”. The casting news has not been confirmed officially but has been widely covered by many sources including the New York Daily News. SNL returns on October 1st.
Chris is one of the funniest people I have come across doing comedy and hearing this news earlier today made me literally say “AWESOME!” out loud in public. He’s a genuine guy who has worked really hard and has undeniable talent. Here is Chris Redd performing on a web series I produced last year called Fourstar Stand Ups. He jokes about wanting to be tough (but not actually being tough), pyramid schemes, people who don’t how to use words, and the meanest lady who ever gave a boarding call at an airport. Beware there is some naughty words here, enjoy and share.
It was also reported today that SNL will promote writer Mikey Day to cast member. Day who got his start with the Groundlings in L.A, has been writing for SNL since 2013 and was a featured performer in NBC’s summer season sketch comedy show ‘Maya & Marty’. Here is Day in a sketch with WWE superstar John Cena, unlike Cena you can clearly SEE him being a big part of SNL’s future ….sorry play on catchphrases, I could not help it.
Here is the latest track from Kings of Leon from their long in the works new album ‘WALLS’ due out October 14th, it’s called ‘Waste A Moment’. The pop-out-on-your-ear lyric that may grab you on the first listen “Take the time to waste a moment, Never ask to be forgiven.” The track features all of the beloved characteristics of the Kings with a crooning vocal on top of slick guitars and a driven steady beat.
Singer and guitarist Caleb Followill may be asking us to simply cut out the noise in our daily lives spent looking at screens, riding trains, getting stuck in traffic, and arguing about politics on Facebook. Yes, let’s smell the roses, shall we?
As the mother of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, Virginia Hanlon Grohl certainly has a unique perspective on parenthood — and it’s one she shares with the other rock star moms she interviewed for her upcoming book. Due in stores next April, From Cradle to Stage: Stories From the Mothers Who Rocked and Raised Rock Stars lives up to its title through interviews with a list of rock moms that includes the women who raised Michael Stipe, Amy Winehouse, Mike D of the Beastie Boys, and Maroon 5‘s Adam Levine, among others. Thankfully I’m not famous or my mom would definitely tell the most embarrassing things about me. She already does it enough for free now to anyone who’ll listen I can’t imagine if she was getting paid. – m
The Chili Peppers go to fun wild places in their new music video ‘Go Robot’ posted today on their FB. A lot of nods to the 1970s dance epic film ‘Saturday Night Fever’, the guys in wigs, Flea pouting his lips, and Anthony Kiedis in a skin tight white body paint getup just trying to find a dance partner at disco party. It’s just a wild fun video where it’s clear everyone involved had a ball making it.
Music videos need to have more unrelenting silliness like this one has, right? – @kevkellam
The big question when Prophets Of Rage came out was… where is Zack De La Rocha?
Here he is. With a brand new song. (p.s. there are curse words in it)
Holy $#!&
The track is produced by El-P, who collaborated with de la Rocha on the Run the Jewels 2highlight “Close Your Eyes (And Count to Fuck).” It’s the first offering from de la Rocha’s forthcoming solo album, which El-P confirmed will arrive next year. El also said that the song was “made this year” and that “there is more where that came from.” More from Pitchfork here

The story of Amanda Knox who was twice acquitted on murder charges in a case that garnered international speculation and widespread debate, is the subject of an upcoming Netflix documentary due out September 30th. It follows a growing interest by TV viewers into true crime stories after the monster success of last year’s ‘Making a Murder’ series which was also produced by Netflix. The trailer videos below for the film hit the web this week, and will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival tomorrow.
Here is an official synopsis of the film.
Twice convicted and twice acquitted by Italian courts of the brutal killing of her British roommate Meredith Kercher, Amanda Knox became the subject of global speculation as non-stop media attention fed the public’s fascination through every twist and turn of the nearly decade-long case.
In a world that remains strongly divided on the legal findings, Amanda Knox goes beyond guilt or innocence to shed new light on the events and circumstances of the past nine years. Featuring unprecedented access to key people involved and never-before-seen archival material, the film shifts between past to present, exploring the case from the inside out in exclusive interviews with Amanda Knox, her former co-defendant and ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, Italian prosecutor Giuliano Mignini and Daily Mail reporter Nick Pisa.
As a hunger for salacious and exciting news stories grows, what role do we all play in the perpetuation and the creation of ‘front page’ ready narratives? Amanda Knox is a human story that goes past the headlines to examine the often fraught relationship between true crime tragedy, justice and entertainment.

Apple finally went through with it. It killed the headphone jack on the iPhone 7. In its place, you can use headphones that connect to the Lightning port. But Apple thinks the future is wireless headphones. And AirPods are its vision for that future. AirPods are “truly wireless” earbuds in the way that you’ve been fantasizing about them for years. It’s a beautiful concept that nobody has been able to get right. Many have tried to various degrees of disappointment. So imagine the surprise on discovering that AirPods aren’t complete garbage. Oasis is one of the more regarded alternative bands of the their time, who took the world by storm and gained notoriety for their moving music as well their tumultuous in-band fighting. The whole saga of the Gallagher brothers, their soaring rise, and their disastrous fall are all covered in this documentary called ‘Supersonic’ due out in the UK and Ireland in October. Their is no news at this time for a formal release in US theaters but it’s expected to get a digital release in the future. The film is produced by Asif Kapadia who has previously worked ‘Amy’ which covered the life of late singer Amy Winehouse and heavily relies on archival footage with fresh voice over.
The trailer has already sparked rumors of an Oasis reunion but considering how much Noel and Liam Gallagher have been public about their relationship being far from nice, it does not seem likely. Noel called his brother a “very angry man” in a recent interview and specified it would take millions to get them back together for just one gig.
Yet the brother’s quarrel seems to stayed active on social media with Liam posted the not-so-subtle tweet after seeing this trailer before it was posted.
Just seen the trailer for oasis film i must say I do come across mighty fine super real unlike some people see you at the premiere LG x
Capital Cities who danced into our collective hearts in 2013 with “Safe and Sound” off the album ‘In a Tidal Wave of Mystery’, are prepping a new EP due out in October 21st. The Los Angeles based band made up of the duo of Ryan Merchant and Sebu Simonian spoke this week with RollingStone about their breakout success, how they don’t like performing in expensive studios, and how their new song ‘Vowels’ was written right after a break-up.Read the whole interview here.
“I was dating this girl and things were not going great. The day I wrote it, I called up this girl and asked her plainly ‘What’s going on between us?’ Unfortunately, the relationship ended after that. The song literally came two hours after having this painful conversation. It’s about having so many things on your mind that you’re unable to express in words.” – vocalist/keyboardist Ryan Merchant
Near the tail end of the album cycle for ‘Tidal Wave’, saw the release of the video for the delightful love letter to retro sound equipment and obsession over music “I Sold My Bed But Not My Stereo”.
Also this song which barely involves Ryan and Sebu is funky morsel to consume as well.
