Rising Chicago-area comedian Chris Redd has been widely reported by multiple sources today to have been cast in the 42nd season of television institution ‘Saturday Night Live’. Redd who cut his teeth in comedy with Second City, iO Stand Up, and Jokes & Notes on the Southside. Redd has been coming up hard in the business of show recently with appearances on ‘Empire’, ‘Chicago P.D’ and a featured role this year in SNL alum Andy Sandburg’s “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping”. The casting news has not been confirmed officially but has been widely covered by many sources including the New York Daily News. SNL returns on October 1st.

Chris is one of the funniest people I have come across doing comedy and hearing this news earlier today made me literally say “AWESOME!” out loud in public. He’s a genuine guy who has worked really hard and has undeniable talent. Here is Chris Redd performing on a web series I produced last year called Fourstar Stand Ups. He jokes about wanting to be tough (but not actually being tough), pyramid schemes, people who don’t how to use words, and the meanest lady who ever gave a boarding call at an airport. Beware there is some naughty words here, enjoy and share.

It was also reported today that SNL will promote writer Mikey Day to cast member. Day who got his start with the Groundlings in L.A, has been writing for SNL since 2013 and was a featured performer in NBC’s summer season sketch comedy show ‘Maya & Marty’. Here is Day in a sketch with WWE superstar John Cena, unlike Cena you can clearly SEE him being a big part of SNL’s future ….sorry play on catchphrases, I could not help it.
