After announcing last spring that it would revamp the way it counts characters in Tweets, Twitter has reportedly put a date on when this change will kick in. Starting Sept. 19, Twitter will no longer count usernames in replies, media attachments — think photos, GIFs, videos, and other content — and quoted Tweets against the 140-character limit, The Verge reports, citing sources familiar with the company. Twitter first announced in May that it would allow users to express more on the site by simplifying what counts toward the character restriction in the “coming months.” (MORE HERE)

It looks like ticket prices aren’t the only sticker shocks associated with Lollapalooza. The costs to repair Grant Park following the epic summer music festival totaled $453,000 this year, according to the Chicago Park District. That represents a significant increase over last year’s costs, $236,000—almost half this year’s figure. The highest restoration cost in recent years was 2011, when a torrential thunderstorm deluged the park on Day Three and resulted in $1 million in damage.
I wonder if this cost has anything to do with people burying treasures in the ground weeks before so they won’t have to sneak them in? THOSE WE’RE GOPHER HOLES!! – m

A bank heist and house party collide in the new music video from Green Day for ‘Bang! Bang!’ off their upcoming album, ‘Revolution Radio’ due out on October 7th. The video was posted by the iconic Bay area band on their Facebook page, and already has a positive response from fans. The visual of the bank robbers wearing masks that look like enlarged versions of Mike Dirnt, Tre Cool, and Billie Joe Armstrong catches you and creates this tension of what’s going happen when these two scenarios crash into each other over the track which covers serious issues related to gun violence.

It’s every stoned college kid’s dream: EVERYONE’S DREAM!! Flying burritos delivered on demand with the push of a button. And if Chipotle and Alphabet’s Project Wing have their way, that dream could soon become a reality. The companies will start testing their burrito-delivery drones at Virginia Tech next week. Alphabet’s Project Wing, a branch of the behemoth tech company formerly known as Google, announced the tests today, which will include autonomous drones being monitored by human operators. But the drones won’t take off from Chipotle stores with orders. Instead, test participants will order from a special kiosk on campus, prompting the drones to take off from Chipotle food trucks and ultimately lower the packages to the ground. (MORE HERE)

North Korea, the rogue nation who earlier this week once again defied international sanctions and tested a nuclear weapon underground causing an earthquake, has exhibited more extreme behavior by also banning ‘sarcasm’ is any reference to it’s enigmatic and aggressive dictator Kim Jong Un. According to the Independent, Jong Un banned the form of expression because he worries that the North Korean people only agree with him ironically.
Now clearly North Korea testing a nuke is much more of an important issue, but serious times call for serious satire. Insert ‘Late Show’ host Stephen Colbert who turned the sarcasm meter past 1000 with this thorough roasting of the regime leader.
In a Facebook live video on Thursday, Billy Corgan once again peaked interest in what many are assuming is a Smashing Pumpkins reunion of the iconic Chicago band’s classic lineup with bassist D’Arcy Wretzky, guitarist James Iha, and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin. The video is posted at the bottom of this page, Corgan also dishes on his new job as the President and lead creative producer for TNA IMPACT Wrestling on POP TV.
The most telling line from Corgan in this video will make fans of the Pumpkins freak out a little bit. “Definitely making plans to tour next year, under the name ‘Smashing Pumpkins’. Who will be on stage? We shall see.” He also noted he has a “hankering” to write SP music with “big riffs, big choruses” that the band was characteristically known for. “I guess I have to get Jimmy Chamberlin on the phone, and maybe some other people that used to be in the band” says Corgan as he continued to slickly tease the OG SP lineup reunion. He even clarified he would want make an album that falls “somewhere between Siamese Dream and Gish”
To cement further proof that this is happening, our pals at Consequence of Sound reported in July that a Pumpkins reunion was in the works with undisclosed music festivals for next summer. This would line up with Corgan publicly revealed time frame for touring and any potential new music. Still everything has come just short of a confirmation.
Jimmy Chamberlin has periodically rejoined Corgan on drums in SP since 2007 when the singer/guitarist relaunched the band without Iha and Wretzky, including a successful tour last summer with Marilyn Manson. Iha made cameos on the Pumpkins recent acoustic and electric shows. The momentum continued when Corgan made it known he had once again reconnected with Wretzky earlier this year. All the pieces are coming together.
As if that is not enough, Corgan also confirmed in this latest video that he is releasing a new solo album with legendary producer Rick Rubin who has worked with Black Sabbath, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and System of a Down.“For the most part the record is done,” says Corgan. There is no release date for this solo album just yet.
And there is more. Billy announced that the new line reissues of classic and rare SP recordings will be reissued on vynl and as well as digital. This crop of releases will also feature unreleased live tracks from Pumpkins.
So Pumpkin fans, don’t you just wish you had a time machine to go into the future already to see what happens here?
Jack White unearthed two classic White Stripes songs “Love Is the Truth” and “You’ve Got Her In Your Pocket,” on Friday for a performance on ‘The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon’. White is pushing his new compilation album ‘Acoustic Recordings 1998-2016’ which out now. It features rare songs, remixes, and different versions of established tracks throughout White’s career.
White looks like an emotive protagonist in a dark Tim Burton movie here when he sings the words “I want to keep you in my pocket”. It’s just heartwarming and moving at the same time to see feeling in every note in this subtle performance.
Jack and host Jimmy Fallon talk about how a stewardess on a plan told him that while in New York he should get tickets to the ‘Tonight Show’. Well, looks like he made it.
The fine people at Gothamist posted this recently.
Comedian/filmmaker Jeff Seal is breaking rules and having fun in this adventure video where he illegally rides freight trains in the Northeast. He delightfully narrates his journeys of sneaking onto trains as he films all of it with a go-pro on his head which makes him look like a lovable goof. As a CTA rider, Seal latching himself to a city public train door as it closes and riding on the side of the train is utterly terrifying but this guy is just too much fun to get really mad at. NOTE: There is some NSFW language and it goes without saying, DO NOT TRY ANY OF THIS! I
It’s kind of crazy he’s not serving a real jail sentence or suffering from any injuries, as train-hopping is incredibly dangerous. Driving down Pulaski near Midway airport on the Southside, I would always look into the rail yards and think how likely it was people were trying to ride the freights around the country like this.
Watch more of Jeff here with his short films and stand up comedy sets.

Rising Chicago-area comedian Chris Redd has been widely reported by multiple sources today to have been cast in the 42nd season of television institution ‘Saturday Night Live’. Redd who cut his teeth in comedy with Second City, iO Stand Up, and Jokes & Notes on the Southside. Redd has been coming up hard in the business of show recently with appearances on ‘Empire’, ‘Chicago P.D’ and a featured role this year in SNL alum Andy Sandburg’s “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping”. The casting news has not been confirmed officially but has been widely covered by many sources including the New York Daily News. SNL returns on October 1st.
Chris is one of the funniest people I have come across doing comedy and hearing this news earlier today made me literally say “AWESOME!” out loud in public. He’s a genuine guy who has worked really hard and has undeniable talent. Here is Chris Redd performing on a web series I produced last year called Fourstar Stand Ups. He jokes about wanting to be tough (but not actually being tough), pyramid schemes, people who don’t how to use words, and the meanest lady who ever gave a boarding call at an airport. Beware there is some naughty words here, enjoy and share.
It was also reported today that SNL will promote writer Mikey Day to cast member. Day who got his start with the Groundlings in L.A, has been writing for SNL since 2013 and was a featured performer in NBC’s summer season sketch comedy show ‘Maya & Marty’. Here is Day in a sketch with WWE superstar John Cena, unlike Cena you can clearly SEE him being a big part of SNL’s future ….sorry play on catchphrases, I could not help it.
