Cubs Trick-or-treat Ahead of Trip to Cleveland

cubs-haloween

Joe Maddon, trying to keep the mood light, let the team enjoy Halloween with their families on Monday evening, before hopping a plane to Ohio. NBC% has more HERE. Nothing new for Joe. He likes to try and keep the pressure off at times like this. He’s done petting zoos, themed road trips and even kept the players away from the stadium until later in the day in order to help them get a little time away from the stress.

Will it work this time? We’ll find out tonight when Jake takes the ball in game 6.

‘Stranger Things’ meets ‘Charlie Brown’ in a Christmas special

a-stranger-things-christmas

Youtube creators Leigh Lahav and Oren Mendez on their channel OnlyLeigh have made one of the most entertaining and on-point mash-ups with their ‘Merry Christmas, Will Byers’. It gracefully places together the Netflix coming-of-age sci-fi series with the classic Charlie Brown cartoon down to the dancing, adult discussions coming from children’s mouths, and of course a Demogordon that plays the role of Snoopy.

Here are some other ridiculous yet effective TV/Movie mash-ups I would like to see

Friday the 13th Flinstones

Law & Order: SDU  (Scooby Doo Unit)

Game of Thornes and Bones

Orange is the new Blackish

Eddie Vedder Sings the Stretch at Game 5

Eddie Vedder gave one of the best Seventh Inning Stretch performances ever during Game 5 of the World Series. Throwing out love for Theo, David Ross and Harry.

Weird scene in the 1975 ‘Somebody Else’ video

Watched this video of the latest single from the 1975 called ‘Somebody Else’, now the track and the formal video associated with it make some clear narrative about a break up in a relationship but this opening non-song scene has Eric (hear him Sundays 3-7pm) and I wondering what is going on. It appears to show singer Matt Healy breaking up with someone’s face we never seen underneath their hair,we never hear any dialogue just garbled noise, and the Healy leaves the scene to start the song. It has all of these oddly timed audience reaction noises, and it’s just weird. So I watched it 4 times in a row, and came to one conclusion.

Based on the main narrative of the song portion of the video and it’s surprise ending, Healy was ‘breaking up’ with some form of himself or past version of who he was in the opening black and white scene.

What do you think? Tweet us and let us know @101WKQX. And we do expect to hear from fans, so send them in. Does the video mean something completely different to you?

Note this video is NSFW and may feature ‘adult situations’.

Eddie Vedder singing ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame’ in Game 5

Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder may as well have his own apartment at Wrigley Field at this point. The very-expressive Cubs fan from Evanston who years ago documented his love for the Northsiders in the song “All the Way”, will get the 7th Inning Stretch duties tonight at the decisive Game 5 in the World Series with the Cubs trailing the Cleveland Indians 3-1. This is not the only time Vedder has sang the ritual made famous by the late great Cubs broadcaster Harry Caray let alone, the first time he has rocked Wrigley this year. Pearl Jam had 2 sold-out shows at the ‘Friendly Confines’ earlier this year.

Tom Morello tells Cubs fans a World Series win “matters to the World”

xamb_jsp-1823

Former Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello (currently busy with Prophets of Rage)  has been a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs, and yesterday the respected musician professed why a World Series win for the Cubbies matters to the world as a whole in an editorial published in the Red Eye. The Libertyville native makes a case for the Cubs while they are down 3-1 against the Cleveland Indians. Here is snippet from Morello’s bleeding-Cubbie-blue love letter.

I truly believe that if this seemingly unredeemable team can make it to the promised land, if the worst of the worst can become the best of the best, then really, ANYTHING is possible. It makes one think. Can the unthinkable actually occur? Forging a just and humane planet? Ending homelessness, hunger and war? Impossible, right? Well, the Cubs winning the World Series has seemed impossible for over a century and yet here we are. And the kind of loyalty, dignity and ferocious after-parties we throw in Chicago just might be a roadmap for world peace and harmony.

As a White Sox fan, I still found this a piece to be a moving and touching tribute to the Cubs faithful who have stood by the team through thick and thin. You can read the entire editorial here.

Bars Near Wrigley NOT Charging a Cover for the World Series

cubs

Some bars in Wrigleyville are really trying to make a buck off the Cubs World Series run. Some are charging as much at $250 to get in. To be fair, some are offering drink/food packages with their crazy cover, but if you are looking for a spot near all the action and don’t want to drop a ton on a cover you have some options.

Here are 7 places Time Out Chicago found that won’t be charging to get in this weekend.

1. Murphy’s Bleachers

2. Vines on Clark

3. The Irish Oak

4. Johnny O’Hagans

5. Roadhouse 66 Gas N’ Grill

6. The Bar Celona

7. Sports Corner
