Tom DeLonge’s Alien Studies are on The Washington Post’s Radar

Blink-182 will be at Lollapalooza.  Founding member Tom DeLonge…will not.  He’s off studying aliens, in case you hadn’t heard.

Not exactly the biggest breaking news story, as any rudimentary search of the Internet would have informed you.   Friday’s Washington Post article on DeLonge, however, brought his new passion to a mainstream audience.

Among the highlights:

  • DeLonge was featuring in the WikiLeaks e-mails because of his correspondence with Clinton campaign chair John Podesta.  Podesta has been a long-time advocate of declassifying anything the government had on aliens.
  • DeLonge claims he’s met with the Department of Defense regarding extraterrestrial life.  The DoD had no record of such a meeting, though did say he could have with two generals who retired in 2013 and 2014, respectively.
  • DeLonge seems to ascribe to a sort of “Independence Day” theory on aliens:  that if they were to make contact, it would not be good for the human race.

Tom has been studying this for 20 years and just released a book last month on the topic.  He’s very, very serious on the topic.  I guess the question is…how seriously will the world take HIM?  — [eric]

Riot Fest plays a grand prank with a FAKE lineup

It’s  April Fool’s Day, so maybe you’ve grown tired of scrolling past your friend’s fake pregnancy announcements and need to see a really good prank to fool us all. Riot Fest wins the day with this fake lineup announcement for this September’s show. The lineup poster shows off a hilarious list of fictional bands and musical artists who have been featured in TV shows and movies. Yeah, sorry Rex Manning from ‘Empire Records’ and Zac Attack from ‘Saved by the Bell’ will not be playing at Douglas Park this fall.

Listen to new BLEACHERS “Don’t Take The Money”

Bleachers are starting their new album cycle this week with the release yesterday of a new song called ‘Don’t Take the Money’ . The track which has a cool dance vibe that reminds me of something on ‘the Breakfast Club’ soundtrack, was written by band leader Jack Antonoff’s relationship with Lena Dunham, the star of the HBO series ‘Girls’. In this IG post, Antonoff lays it all out and how the song is encapsulates a lot of different emotions in a multi-dimensional relationship.

Antonoff got a little help on the song from another alt favorite whose busy in her own right, Lorde. The New Zealand singer helped Antonoff write the song, after he helped produce music for her tracks like the recently released ‘Green Light’ . Check out Lorde and Antonoff performing together last month on NBC’s ‘Saturday Night Live’.

hi. today i'm releasing the first song from an album that has taken every piece of me to make. there are endless things i'm dying to tell you about the past two years of making this album – some incredible and filled with joy, some deeply painful. but i'll wait on that because today is just about this introduction. don't take the money is the front door to this house. it's a big strange house but this is how i believe it should be entered. dttm is something i say in my head a lot. it's not about actual money. it's about following a light. a gut feeling. not following a deep gut feeling destroys your art and the people around you. so i say it in my head constantly. sometimes about something very specific relating to music, sometimes about a bigger question about marriage or depression :):). point is, it's become my phrase to stay on track. specifically in don't take the money i'm taking about my relationship. verses go through the past, pre is an explosive fight and the chorus is that moment when you hit rock bottom and everything is clear. you know that feeling? when you've tried your best to destroy yourself and someone else but it's too strong to be destroyed? when you've tried to fling you a your partner out of an emotional window but you keep landing in heaven? that's when it's all clear. as much as i say don't take the money in my head, i also can beg it of the people i love. that's what i'm doing in that chorus. beyond the lyrics, so much of everything i'm working on is meant to have an intense push and pull between euphoria and sadness. dttm is the front door because it hold both of those feelings so specifically. that is the core of bleachers. ok. i'm in bed and just woke so i'm very clear right now. no strange baggage yet from the today. i've missed sharing music with you. sometimes you have to go into a hole and gather things before you present them. gotta find things that are the ones you need to present. i'm ready to show you all the ideas of gathered. here's the first – and here's tour dates so we can celebrate it all together. much more to come. god this is such a bizarre and wonderful feeling. ranting. sorry. love you very much. jack x dttm x

Wax Trax! Remembered!

Once upon a time…. well, back in the 80’s, there was a record store with an indie label attached.  Wax Trax! Records!!  It started with a few 12″ singles and ended up one of the most influential record labels for Industrial music.  The label was home to Ministry, Front 242, KMFDM among so many others.  2445 N. Lincoln Ave became the center of the industrial universe.  This weekend, a documentary about the label called Industrial Accident: The Untold Story Of Wax Trax! Records will premiere at The Vic Theatre with 2 showings tomorrow at 2:30 and 8:30.  Each will be followed by a panel of artists and people associated with the label.  There are no plans to distribute the film yet so I’d take advantage of this screening.  Click here for tickets.   -wALT

SHARKNADO IS REAL!

Cyclone Debbie which swept across the Queensland coast of Northeastern Australia on Tuesday causing widespread damage with winds up to 185 kph (114 mph).

Apparently, that is the speed required to make SHARKS FLY THROUGH THE AIR…

(or at least, wash up onto the mainland)

What should the title of Sharknado 5 be?

I vote for “Sharknado 5: last one, we promise.”

Bleachers is Back!

I sense new Bleachers music soon!!! Jack Antonoff has been dropping cryptic video hints on the band’s Twitter that include a first-person look at his family home as well as a bus ride from Jersey to NYC. Take a look:

Bleachers’ website is just a map graphic showing a trip between New Jersey and Lower Manhattan; most likely the trip we just experienced through Jack’s “eyes” in the video clips. Their Twitter account is also sporting a new profile photo. Could it be new album artwork?!

We’ll wait (im)patiently to find out.

One Out of Eight Millennials Doesn’t Know How to Change a Light Bulb

Apparently the answer to “How many millennials does it take to screw in a light bulb?” is “Zero . . . because you’ll have to do it for them.” According to a new survey, one out of eight people under 35 say they don’t know how to change a light bulb . . . and they’d ask their parents for help.
