‘Rick And Morty’ Creator Justin Roiland Prank Calls Joel Osteen’s Mega-Church As Rick Sanchez

Everyone has been attacking Joel Osteen for not opening his 17,000-seat mega-church to people looking for safe haven as the floods poured into the city of Houston. After all the criticism, he blamed it all on “misinformation” and the city. The internet has been throwing  jokes and memes his way and now the creator of “Rick and Morty” took time to mess with his church with the help of h3h3productions to help raise money for their Hurricane Harvey Relief fund.  READ MORE

Would you press your ashes to vinyl?

Have you ever thought about what you want done with your body after you’ve sung your last song?  Will you be buried or cremated?  Well if you’re a music lover, maybe cremation is the way to go.  There is a company in the UK called AndVinyly who will take your ashes and press them into vinyl records!  You get 30 discs, each with 24 minutes of audio (12 minutes on each side) where you can a pre-recorded message or your favorite song pressed to a playable vinyl album.  The whole package will set you back about $4000.  If it’s a little too macabre for you, they have other packages, even ones for your pets.

Check out the video below to see how the process works to “live beyond the groove.”

NEW MUSIC ALERT! U2 ‘You’re the Best Thing About Me’ & ‘The Blackout’

Irish legends U2 are starting up the road to a new album with the release of new track last week ‘The Blackout’ (watch below) and today they uploaded another new song titled ‘You’re the Best Thing About Me’. On first listen, it reminds me of the self-inspection of emotions that we saw Bono take on their standout album ‘All That You Can’t Leave Behind’. It also has this bridgethat has a lot of funkier layers to it that I was not expecting, but it still retains that smooth guitar sound the Edge is known for.

This song will be a part of ‘Songs of Experience’ which was completed last year, but the Dublin based mega-band felt they needed to re-evaluate the material with all the big news in the world and their 30th anniversary ‘Joshua Tree’ tour gaining so much traction in stadiums this year, that makes sense. It follows up 2014’s ‘Songs of Innocence’ which was released in a unique way that ended up getting band in a lot of hot water. More on that here from the Independent.

Listen to the other new song from U2 ‘The Blackout’ here. The loud stomp and clap jam was premiered in another unique fashion with a live performance video via the band’s Facebook. Am I the only one hearing Red Hot Chili Peppers on this?!

FOO FIGHTER’S SPECIAL GUEST ON NEW ALBUM: JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE and Paul McCartney

It has been reported for over a month that the Foo Fighters new album ‘Concrete & Gold’ (due out September 15th) will feature a ‘huge pop star’ singer, with Dave Grohl and company keeping it secret until today. Star of many ‘Saturday Night Live’ sketch, the only member of boy band N’SYNC that your sister cared about, Justin Timberlake will contribute a vocal performance on the album according to a report today by Rolling Stone. “We’d drink whiskey in the parking lot,” Grohl says. “He was really, really cool. Then the night before his last day, he says, ‘Can I sing on your record? I don’t want to push it, but—I just want to be able to tell my friends.’ ” He just wanted to be able to tell his friends?! I want to tell my friends I have a condominium on the Moon but I can’t just have it!

No matter what your feelings are on Timberlake, he has an undeniable sly voice and has proven in his solo album a sophisticated take on pop music. It will be interesting to see how he figures into the soulful fracas of fun that is  the Foos who now have a keyboardist in veteran player Rami Jaffeee. The band’s sound has never stayed dormant , it’s almost always challenging yet still true to the band’s ethos to do all things that rock in one way or another.

Oh yeah, there is this obscure English musician Paul McCartney is going to be on the album as well. Excuse me, cough …cough, let me clear my throat.

PAUL McCARTNEY FROM THE BEATLES?! Yes, that has been known for some time with Grohl letting it slip a while back. McCartney will reportedly contribute some drums on the album.  Grohl texted Sir Paul and simply asked him to which the living legend responded to with “You’re crazy, man!”. When your Dave Grohl you can just text titans of music and he responds like that, you are legit.

They are not done with the guest stars, R&B standouts Boys II Men are also doing something on the album.

Party On. The ‘Saturday Night Live’ Exhibit Is Coming To Chicago Next Month

Many talented people in Chicago have been swept up by SNL so it seems very fitting that we would get the SNL The Experience exhibit here in town.

“Saturday Night Live: The Experience” opens Oct. 21 at the Museum of Broadcast Communications (360 N State State) and is expected to run to December 2018. Tickets ($25) go on sale Friday.

See the NYC version below. It looks pretty awesome.

What Ya Missed, Inappropriate Places to have a conversation, move over pumpkin spice and We Need To Talk

We’re Bored With Pumpkin Spice . . .

There are approximately 270 million pumpkin spice foods and drinks on sale right now.  You’d think that would mean we’re all buying more of them than ever.  But we’re not.

According to a research company, the sales numbers on pumpkin spice products have flattened out . . . and that may be a sign that we’ve gotten BORED with them.

There are 49% more pumpkin spice products out this year than last year, but sales are only up 21%.  That means we’re not really buying what they’re selling.

A spokesperson says, quote, “Brands are putting pumpkin spice into everything from cereal to yogurt to coffee.  We may be at peak spice.”

So what have we moved on to?  The leading candidate is . . . MAPLE.

There are 85% more maple products available right now than there were a year ago.

Watch Portugal. The Man play Oasis’s ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’

Portugal. The Man still riding high on their massive hit ‘Feel it Still’ and their latest successful album ‘Woodstock, posted a wonderful cover video on their Youtube today with a rousing cover of the Oasis classic ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’. The video performance sees the band perform the song in a stripped down set up in a studio, lending to the intimate nature of the song’s lyrics. This cover has been a highlight from PTM’s recent tours so it’s sweet to hear it put to tape.

The song which was first heard on Oasis’s ‘(What’s the Story) Morning Glory’ album in 1995, has regained attention recently with UK rock fans using it as a uniting anthem for the victims of the Manchester arena terror attacks in May 2017. Meanwhile the Gallagher Brothers Liam and Noel are active with separate solo acts and persistent speculation of the band reforming. Liam Gallagher plays the Rivera on November 21st, get your tickets here.

PTM brought their Portland swagger to the Lounge recently. Check that out here.

Man protest court with ‘RETURN MY BONG’ sign

PHOTO: THE RECORD

An Ontario man is protesting a local court for not returning his bong, and he’s doing in style. He’s doing in nothing but a bright green speedo and some noteworthy signs that declare ‘RETURN MY BONG’ and ‘RETURN MY MARIJUANA’. Yes, this is a story you needed today getting back to work.

“I have a legal medical marijuana card. Five months after I got it, I was arrested for possession of marijuana, but I had my card on me. So two days later, I went back and smoked marijuana on the front lawn of the police station,,,Again they arrested me. I went to jail for the first time. They held me there for 16 hours. And that charge, ironically, has already been dropped and this is the very bong they returned to me. They refuse to return the other one because they haven’t dropped that marijuana charge.” said the man named Jeremey Shavers, who spoke with therecord.com. The article added that Shavers was smoking pot during his entire interview.
