The White Stripes will reissue their first three albums on cassette for the first time ever this weekend. The three albums in question – ‘The White Stripes’ (1999), ‘De Stijl’ (2000) and ‘White Blood Cells’ (2001) – have all been remastered for the new release to mark Cassette Store Day in the US, which falls on Saturday (October 14) and is due to take place in record stores across the world. Hey, I’m all for tons of comforts in Airbnb/home sharing services. But I’m certain a couple from Indiana wasn’t expecting this: on a recent trip to Florida, they happened to discover a hidden camera and microphone in the smoke detector above their bed. Later, a second camera was found in the living room. Comforting, no?
The owner of the property, Wayne Natt, claims he only uses the cameras to record consenting adults. (As was pointed out, why hide a camera if people KNOW about them?)
Natt is charged with one count of video voyeurism…and could face more if the hard drives, jump drives, and other storage devices that police confiscated from him turn up more footage taken without permission.
So, what can you do? Some ideas from a CNN report that still ring true today:
Before a Chicago Cubs vs. Washington Nationals playoff game Tuesday (delayed/postponed by rain), Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder threw guitar picks to fans from the top of Murphy’s Bleachers. A fan also threw him a baseball, and Vedder signed it and threw it back. Vedder was pre-partying along with Chris Chelios, Brett Hull and about a half-dozen other friends, playing bags. (MORE HERE)
Chance the Rapper’s livestreamed a traffic stop on Instagram on Sunday when the car he in which he was riding was pulled over by Chicago police. Chance had the stream running to his millions of social-media followers, just in case “it goes sideways.” “Just want y’all to be here in case it gets out of hand,” Chance said. (MORE HERE)
Another year, another inappropriate Halloween costume?
Fans are outrage for sexualizing one of the children from “Stranger Things,” reports the Daily Mail.
The “Upside Down Honey,” costume includes a short smocked dress and a blue jacket very similar to that worn by Eleven — played by 13-year-old actress Millie Bobby Brown — on the Netflix show. The $50 ensemble comes with a purse made of waffles, a nod to the 12-year-old character’s favorite snack.
Accessories include childish white knee socks, tall platform heels and a blond-bob wig like the one Eleven wears over her buzz cut.
Fans of the show took to Twitter to excoriate it. “When do sexy Halloween costumes go too far???” wrote one, while another person called the outfit “creepy in all the wrong ways.”
just in case you haven’t reached ur breaking point in 2017 yet, plz enjoy this sexy “eleven” halloween costume pic.twitter.com/tArp54wloB
Yesterday, Lyft announced a partnership with Chance the Rapper to help support Chicago Public Schools!
You’ll now be able to round up fares to the nearest dollar amount, and the extra money will be donated to Chance’s Art & Literature Fund, which aids CPS.
IKEA is well known for stocking everything you could possibly need to make a house a home (plus plenty of things that you don’t need, yet somehow still end up buying). One thing they’ve always lacked however is a collection of furniture specifically designed for pets, but IKEA aims to change all of that with its new range called Lurvig. What’s a lurvig? It’s the Swedish word for “hairy” (obviously) and the range includes everything from dog beds and couch covers to cat tunnels and scratching posts. The collection is currently being rolled out in stores across the US, Canada, France and Japan, with other stores scheduled to stock the paw-sitively paw-some range from March 2018. (MORE HERE)
It was a toy that made a generation of kids feel like a had a pet, and a generations of parents feel good they didn’t spend more money on a real pet. Tamagotchi, the Japanese artificial pet toy clipped to your keychain is back. Bandai America announced they are making a 20th anniversary line of the toys that will be available on November 5th for $14.99.
According to AltPress, this comes with little surprise as it seems like every old is new again but this particular reboot was seen a long time ago when it was announced Tamagotchis would return to Japan. The most annoying toy of 2017 is almost certainly the humble fidget spinner. For a short while it was ubiquitous: sold in supermarkets, dodgy corner stores, and basically anywhere you can drop money. Arcade Fire even put their new album on one for $109 a pop. And now, there’s a phone version. (MORE HERE)
STAR WARS; The Last Jedi rolled out a fresh trailer before it’s release in December during last night’s Monday Night Football game on ESPN. With tickets on sale. It provoked all the mutl-generational feels and just share a genuine reaction I made a loud unmanly gasp watching the closing moments. It teases the Jedi maturity of Rey with Luke Skywalker becoming her mentor, the evil return of Kylo Ren, and a taste of possible villainous turn by a key character to an opposing force. ‘Last Jedi’ hits theaters on December 15th with tickets already on sale.
Collider goes into a complete frame for frame details on the potential meaning behind every bit that is teased here and what it means to each character.
The distinctive Technicolor cans of LaCroix sparkling water are an increasingly popular sight in stores and on kitchen tables around the country. (If you’re old enough to remember the Snapple phenomenon of the 1990s, this is like that—just bubbly.) But as The Wall Street Journalrecently pointed out, few of the beverage’s loyal fans have any idea what it is they’re drinking. (MORE HERE)

Youtube nerd culture channel Cinemasscare gave me a nostaglia trip to the 90’s with their look back at the middle school horror anthology show ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark?’ which aired on Nickolodeon. The show featured kids around a campfire telling scary stories with each episode featuring a new story that usually played off a known urban myth. This video shows off how unique the show in it’s 7 seasons, without having to deliver gore or explicit violence that you can’t get away with in a live action kids shows. It did feel like this show was just little bit beyond what you are supposed to watch as a kid, but stayed in the realm of scares.
My favorite episode that I can recall is the one where the kid steals the clown’ statue’s nose from a creepy fun house and he gets haunted by the clown follows to terrorize him at his home. Here is a clip to help you remember, ZEEEBO!
Some of the scares don’t hit when your adult but the creepiness is still very much there. Another reminder that clowns are scary unless their name is Bozo.
‘AYotD’ does not exactly age well, but it did serve it’s pre-teen audience with a fantasy horror world and even helped the careers of actors who have gone on to other things. Before he was a Blade Runner, Ryan Gosling shared screen time on this show with comedian Gilbert Gottfried.
Film reviewer Chis Stuckman gives you even more of a lookback at this show which was “the X-Files for kids”.
