Welcome to Chicago, John Fox! You really do look your best in blue and orange.
Hard to believe, but Jake “The Snake” Roberts is scared of snakes. He talks about that and a lot more below.
If you want to see him, he’ll be at Beat Kitchen tonight. Info on that here.
When it comes to news of Tool and recording, any small achievement is worth noting.
The band posted an update on their Facebook page that says, "Starting the New Year off on a positive note, [guitarist] Adam [Jones] arrives at the Loft with an ending for a new Tool arrangement and gets the nod of approval by the others. As long as they don't start with the ending, that's good news!"
For those keeping score at home, it's now nine years since Tool's last album, 10,000 Days.
The upcoming Kurt Cobain documentary Montage of Heck will be accompanied by a book.
Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck will be published on April 14th. The book, by the director Brett Morgen and writer Richard Bienstock, is described as “a mixture of animation stills, rare photography and other treasures from Kurt Cobain’s personal archive.” It will also include extended transcripts of the exclusive interviews from the film as well Morgen’s own thoughts on creating the first Cobain film made with cooperation from the late Nirvana singer’s family.
Montage of Heck will air on HBO on May 4th.

Bonnaroo didnât make their announcement of the 2015 lineup easy. We had to call a number to get one band name, then post it to social media and then keep checking #Bonnaroo for updates. A crazy amount of work for what is now on the festivalâs website.
To make it easier on you, here’s a link to their lineup page.
Scott Weiland is gearing up for the March 31st release of Blaster, his first album with his new band, The Wildabouts.
Yesterday (Monday), a new song from their debut titled “White Lightning” began streaming exclusively at Billboard.com.
Weiland tells the magazine that the “sludgy bluesy stomp” is inspired by the Prohibition Era and is a “musical homage” to the 2012 movie Lawless, whose screenplay and music were both written by Australian musician Nick Cave.
He will be at Double Door 2/27; info here.
CBS says Steven Colbert will take over The Late Show starting September 8th. Letterman will step down on May 20th. They’ll be running primetime show to fill the slot until Colbert starts his run with the new show. Rolling Stone has the story here.

Kintsugi will be Death Cab For Cutie’s 8th LP and first album since 2011’s Codes and Keys. The album title references a Japanese style of art where fractured, broken ceramics are put back together with very obvious, real gold, making the repair of an object a visual part of its history. Death Cab lead singer Ben Gibbard says Kintsugi is a reference to the recent departure of founding member and producer Chris Walla, who left the band last fall.

Kings of Leon are heading home to Nashville to play the SI Swimsuit Fest next month. Which is perfect because, like it says in the Billoard.com article, two of them are married to models.
Dave Grohl turns 46 in a few days and the Foo Fighters are celebrating with a surprise show, in the round, at The Forum in L.A. on Saturday. Nothing like a last minute road, or plane trip. The band has the ticket info here.
HT consequenceofsound.net for this one.
If you missed it, Catfish & the Bottlemen did “Kathleen” on Letterman last night.
