The truth is out there, “there” being wherever Tom DeLonge happens to be standing at that exact moment. The former Blink-182 member was recently named UFO Researcher of the Year by Open Minds Productions for his efforts to expose “a vast UFO cover-up within the government.” READ MORE

The channel options seem pretty cool. However, I already have SLING TV, HULU, NETFLIX as well as really fast internet that comes with a basic cable package that includes HBO and SHOWTIME. I can watch them all on my phone, laptop or TV. Lots of cool features on YouTube TV though. I might try it out for a month.

It was beyond awkward for everyone in attendance, on stage, and everyone watching on television during Sunday night’s Oscar awards show as ‘La La Land’ was mistakenly awarded Best Picture before the honoro properly given to ‘Moonlight’. The scene has been the talk of social media ever since, and everyone seems to have some theory as to why this massive blunder happened and blame being placed on various parties involved. So who is to blame for this happening?
According to report today by Entertainment Weekly, Price Waterhouse Cooper (PwC), the accounting firm that counts and delivers the winning Oscars envelopes, publicly has taken the blame for the whole incident. Through some comprehensive reporting it has been discovered that an accountant for PwC handed presenter Warren Beatty the wrong envelope with the wrong winner. Many tweets and posts online zoomed in on the envelope which reads the wrong category. The accountant in question reportedly tweeted a photo backstage of award winner Emma Stone at 9:05PM just a few minutes before the Best Picture blunder. This same accountant was told to not use social media in anyway while on duty for PwC. The Academy has already launched a full investigation into the issue. Read more here.
Instead of doing the typical expected In Memoriam segment honoring those we have lost, the Spirit Awards did a Non-Memoriam segment honoring those who are still aliiiiiivveeee.
Any channels his inner and outer Eddie Vedder, I think our boy would be proud.
Wicker Park used to be the heartbeat of Chicago’s music scene; you couldn’t stumble four feet without running into a band playing in a club, on the street or in the back of a taco shop. With this move, Wicker Park has lost one of its great cultural anchors.
Losing Double Door is a huge blow to Chicago. The only thing that lessens that blow is the understanding that the owners are looking into a new space and will launch a new era of live music elsewhere. But if ever you thought you heard the death knell of what made Wicker Park Wicker Park, it has finally sounded now.
I was lucky enough to unknowingly see the venue’s final show—a bill that included many bands I’d booked in the past and both bandmates and staff I had spent decades with. I prefer to remember the room like that: vibrant and full of life. But I think it’s a crime no one ever got to say a proper goodbye. (MORE HERE)
We’ve posted on this story as it has unfolded. It’s just sad. I wish it wasn’t real. I hope when they open their next venue we will all christen it with something awesome together!! Thanks Double Door for giving so much to the city of Chicago.
Chance the Rapper loves to provide his fellow Chicagoans the opportunity to do awesome things, whether it’s by holding Open Mike events or throwing his very own festival. So after seeing Jordan Peele’s excellentGet Out for himself, he wanted to make sure everyone else in Chicago had a chance to do so as well. And for free. (MORE HERE)
Chance is officially the coolest celebrity. I wish more famous people would do stuff like this. Now more than ever this is what we need. Chance is The People’s Champ!!
At the end of the evening on Sunday, Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway presented “La La Land” with the Best Picture Oscar at the 89th annual Academy Awards. The thing was, “La La Land” didn’t win — “Moonlight” did. READ MORE
It turns out listening to music sets off chemicals in the brain that occur when people eat, do recreational drugs, or have sex.
The new study from McGill University “is the first demonstration that the brain’s own opioids are directly involved in musical pleasure.” The people conducting it chemically blocked the brain’s pleasure receptors and found that even people’s favorite songs no longer gave them pleasure.
Seems pretty elementary, but to me this furthers the study of the brain’s complicated chemistry. These pleasure centers can lead to addictive or destructive behavior. To me, I read this and think: music might be one of the many remedies that addicts can use to stay clean, for instance. But that has yet to be seen. At the very least, emotion, biology, and music are being tied together. That’s very cool…
In the meantime: Sex, drugs, and 101WKQX’s particular brand of rock n’ roll. The saying makes sense after all. SCIENCE!!! — [eric]
Film and TV actor Bill Paxton has died at the age 61, due to complications related to a surgery. The sad news was confirmed by a representative to EW and People.

Paxton talks about improvising on camera with Arnold Schwarzenegger when filming ‘True Lies’ with Conan O’Brien
Paxton had a career in show business that stretched over four decades, seeing him work his way out of the art department and into on-camera roles. His biggest roles were more dramatic and action oriented, but his first breakout performance were as comedic yet very memorable side characters in now classic 80’s films, Weird Science as ‘Chet’ and Bill Murray’s Stripes.
Paxton revealed in this Late Late Show appearance from a few weeks back, that he has a ‘crush’ on Tom Cruise
He even dabbled in alternative music with his new wave band Martini Ranch which released two albums.
Paxton and the cast of Aliens reunited for a panel retrospective on the classic sci-fi horror adventure at the San Diego ComiCon in 2016.

The Foo Fighters are back from their hiatus with several big festival dates in Europe announced, and today in the UK the band played a surprise show at a venue called Cheese and Grain for the world to see online via Periscope. The show was no small effort either, as the Foos gave those in attendance a monster set of 24 songs including the live debut of ‘Sean’ off their recent ‘Saint Cecilia’ EP. The performance was meant to reveal the Foo Fighters as headliners for the Glatsonbury Festival in June with Radiohead.
It was the band’s first show since November 2015, and has many fans already anticipating new music from Dave Grohl and company. They played two new songs in the set today “Keep Your Pretty Promise to Yourself” and “Run With Me”.Now when that music will make it’s way out, is unknown. Let’s just hope we get them doing fun shows in Chicago like they did at Wrigley Field and Cubby Bear a few years ago.
Here the setlist from today’s live streamed show according to our pals Consequence of Sound.

Meet our friend Kelly Rizzo from EatTravelRock.com! She’s lived in Chicago all her life and knows ALL the hot spots. Here’s her list of where you should be this weekend! #RockingRightNow
Tampa Bay Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston completely blew it at an elementary school speech to kids … telling the crowd men are supposed to be strong and loud — and women should be silent. One of the teachers told the Times a female student turned to her and said, “I’m strong too.” Winston later told the media, “During my talk, I used a poor word choice that may have overshadowed that positive message for some.”
A politician there named Erik Muskos filed a motion this week to give workers one-hour SEX BREAKS each day, so they could go home specifically to get-it-on. You wouldn’t even have to clock out. We’re talking PAID sex breaks. He thinks it would strengthen people’s relationships and reduce stress, which would make everyone happier. And it would give parents some alone time, because their kids would be in school. He also says it would make everyone healthier, because sex is a good form of exercise. READ MORE
