Yesterday Fall Out Boy announced a new album, a new song AND a new tour!!
In Sunday’s Bits/Bytes, I mentioned Dave Grohl’s mother releasing a book on not only what it was like raising her rock star, but interviews other moms about their experiences as well.
Dave & Virginia Grohl were on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night. Besides learning that Virginia is comfortable enough on the road to have beers with Green Day, she also brought some embarrassing artifacts with her as well, including a report card from the 6th grade filled with “unsatisfactory” and “needs improvement” marks. Watch for yourself:
Over a century ago, Chicago put out a contest for something to symbolize the growing city. On April 4th, 1917 — the City Council of Chicago brought that contest to an end by adopting the flag that we know and love today. I say this because — its everywhere. Logos (including ours), buildings, art — even people.
Of course, the version back then only had two of the four stars. And OF COURSE, the guy who wrote the rules for the contest ended up being the winner of the contest. Say what you will about Chicago politics, it is consistent.
As we celebrate 100 years this month, lets celebrate our flag by pointing/laughing at the misfortune of other city’s symbols:
TAMPA, FLORIDA
“Hmmm. It’s STILL TOO PLAIN. And since we’re trying to confuse the eye, go ahead and make it a shape NO ONE HAS SEEN BEFORE.”
RENO, NEVADA
“Imagine being whisked away to….Reno. Hi. I’m in Reno.”
POCATELLO, ID
“The flag that time forgot. At least, since 1992.”
GRAND RAPIDS, MI
“It looks like Ms. Pacman is blitzed and tried to put her lipstick on whilst traversing a bumpy street.”
KVALSUND, NORWAY
“Into polyamorous fish? We’re the HOME of polyamorous fish.”
Enjoy these others, if you will. And enjoy what we have here in Chicago. — [eric]
From Fall Out Boy’s facebook page:

Last week Paramore delivered a brand new song called “Hard Times.” There’s no denying that frontwoman Hayley Williams can sing.
Check out, Paramore’s hit track “Misery Business” (from their “Riot” album) vocals only! The track without music really highlights Williams’ ability to belt!
Take a listen: (for more Paramore music, check out Taking Back Sundays for emo songs and sing a longs Sunday nights at 10 and see Paramore this summer at Riot Fest)

We may have found the best pizza is in Logan Square. We know, there’s Dante’s and Reno, Boiler Room and Father & Son… but bear with us—Paulie Gee’s, the Brooklyn chain that opened up on Milwaukee Avenue last year, is serving up Detroit-style pizza squares that are simultaneously the fluffiest and crispiest we’ve ever had. I always enjoy when someone finds a new way to create pizza deliciousness. I still wish that someone would take on the late night food near bar situation in Chicago. Wouldn’t it be amazing to be able to walk across the street before you call it a night and get a slice of pizza before heading home? In Chicago we have bars that stay open until 4 and 5 AM but almost none of them serve food late or are even near any all night food establishments. Sure there are a handful of eateries that have late night hours but they are few and far between. Am I off here? In some states it is a law that all bars have to serve food. In Chicago you usually have to go to a restaurant bar for anything beyond a pretzel. Most restaurants are closed by 10 PM. All I’m saying IS maybe there’s a way two business could partner. Say for example ‘MARCONI’S TAVERN’ now serving PAULIE GEE’S PIZZA. It’s just an idea. Or maybe I’m threatening to start a PIZZA TAVERN!! What’ya say Paulie Gee’s?
Take your child to work day, being walked in on sex, “haunting” and slingin’ mud for Riot Fest tickets.

Inside what look like oversized ziplock bags strewn with tubes of blood and fluid, eight fetal lambs continued to develop — much like they would have inside their mothers. Over four weeks, their lungs and brains grew, they sprouted wool, opened their eyes, wriggled around, and learned to swallow, according to a new study that takes the first step toward an artificial womb. One day, this device could help to bring premature human babies to term outside the uterus — but right now, it has only been tested on sheep. (MORE HERE)
An artificial womb that can grow baby sheep
This artificial womb successfully grew baby sheep — and humans could be next.

This is incredible I LOVE SCIENCE!!!
Most Instagram accounts you’ll see filter photos of a glorious sunset, what someone enjoyed for lunch or vacation scenarios. Marilyn Manson just wants to terrify us it seems. Have fun trying to sleep tonight.
I always thought Macaulay as an adult looked more like Kid Rock than a Nirvana frontman .
Singer/songwriter Father John Misty just released a pretty crazy music video for the track “Total Entertainment Forever.” Among all sorts of bizarre things you should see for yourself Macaulay Culkin plays Kurt Cobain!

Tests have been successfully done on pre-mature lambs and if approved, the wombs would be tested on pre-mature human babies within the next three to five years.
What happens is a plastic bag filled with artificial nutrient-rich amniotic fluid is used to create an artificial womb for babies that would be born up to 2-3 months early.
