Remembering Chris Cornell

Even as I type this, I still don’t believe it.  I don’t believe Chris Cornell is gone.  One of the most talented being on this planet.  Almost, otherworldly.  Maybe he is.

I was lucky enough to spend some time with Chris Cornell whether on the phone, in person or in the audience watching him do what he was put here to do.

I’d like to share a sit down I had with Chris that was never posted publicly due to mic and sound issues, and hope you will see past that to feel the intimacy and warmth that was in the 101WKQX Studio 7 on October 7, 2015:

And a clip from the night before at the Chicago Theatre:

The first time I spoke with Chris was over the phone in September of 2012 when he called in to chat about Soundgarden coming back after 15 years gone guns blazing with a new album and tour, this is a clip about wanting fans to have the full album experience:

And about Soundgarden’s brand new fans:

this is a clip about how he grateful he is to do what he does:

Chris and Ben Shepherd came through our Underground Lounge at JBTV on Apil 23, 2013 and were kind enough to play some incredible acoustic songs, feel free to download and share.

The Rock vs. Superman on the big screen?! It’s happening!

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson will be dawning the role of Black Atom in the DC Cinematic Universe film ‘Shazam’ and at some point, the former WWE Champion promises he will fight Superman on the big screen at some point. This is huge, a superhero from pro wrestling who broke big into Hollywood will not break down another wall and face the last great son of Krypton in a battle of epic proportions . Johnson confirmed that the fight will happen at some point in an interview with Fandango

The Rock is quite busy coming off another smashing success with ‘The Fate of the Furious’, he rolls into Season 3 of ‘Ballers’ on HBO and this summer’s action comedy movie adaptation of ‘Baywatch’. And on top of that, he will be hosting this week’s episode of ‘Saturday Night Live’…wait, do we get to see the real showdown, THE ROCK VS. DONALD TRUMP played by Alec Baldwin?! This teases a real life Presidential showdown that has been rumored. Yes, some people think the Rock could be running for President, more on that here.

Meanwhile there is more nerd freak outs over what’s happening with the upcoming DCU team-up, ‘Justice League’. ETC Show breaks down the inside dirt on the re-shoots for this summer’s blockbuster.

VIDEO: Foo Fighter debut new song ‘The Sky is a Neighborhood’

The Foo Fighters contributed to a charity event last night in San Francisco called ‘Acoustic 4 A Cure IV’ with a duo version of the band with Taylor Hawkins and Dave Grohl randomly debuting a new song called ‘The Sky is a Neighborhood’. The song which could be featured on their upcoming album, featured Wallflowers keyboardist Rami Jaffee giving it a bluesy feel and somp/clap beat dressed with Grohl’s passionate chorus. It sounds like Foos This could easily fit into their live shows with a big sing-a-long.

Now this fan-filmed video of course only gives us a rough idea of the new song but it shows the Foos are primed to go on to large lyrical concepts with the yet-to-be-titled new album.

VIDEO: Make your own portable record player

The fine people at Spinbox have crafted possibly one of the DIY toys for vinyl  record fanatics: a record player you can build by yourself. The company says you can build it in 18 minutes or less with an an easy-to-carry design that only requires a mobile charger. Would you pick this up? I know some people who would freak out over this especially with summer BBQ’s  when people try to get that aux cord to take over the party. You walk in with this and some select records, well you own the party, right? The team behind this is developing it with a Kickstarter campaign that is legit, look at more here.

Here is a sample video to show off how the Spinbox kit actually sounds in it’s finished form. It’s kind of shocking to think this was just made by someone in their house.

VIDEO: Seth MacFarlane launching a ‘Star Trek’ spoof on FOX

This is shuffle season for TV with shows getting cancelled, renewed, and new shows getting a shot on the broadcast and streaming networks. And FOX had their recent upfront event for advertisers and partners, where they introduced a trailer for a new sci-fi comedy series starring ‘Family Guy’ creator Seth MacFarlane. ‘The Orville’ is a clear spoof of ‘Star Trek’ and sees MacFarlane playing a first-time captain of space ship whose in way over his head.

It’s getting some tough competition for ratings in a Thursday night slot this fall opposite the very popular drama ‘This is Us’ on NBC. Also the show will get immediate comparisons to CBS’s TV reboot of ‘Star Trek’ in the series ‘Star Trek: Discovery’. This show will have a lot of built-in expectations especially when you consider the fans MacFarlane will bring into this from ‘American Dad’ and ‘Family Guy’ but this talented TV coach/player has proven himself with being able to pull off long form spoofs. With ‘Family Guy’, the show score big hits with it’s extended spoofs of ‘Star Wars’ and did so without bashing the source material.

The trailer does seem like a total knockout but looks genuinely fun as a scifi show and visually really reminds a viewer of ‘Star Trek: the Next Generation’.
