About 400 people gathered at Millennium Park and stopped traffic at times Sunday afternoon as they marched north to sidewalks across the Chicago River from Trump Tower, one of multiple similar marches that unfolded across the U.S. over the weekend.
The Chicago protesters chanted and carried signs with slogans and images blasting Trump and members of his administration. The president has drawn criticism from across the political spectrum for not specifically condemning white nationalists and neo-Nazis in a speech Saturday after their gathering in Charlottesville, Va., spun out of control.
I am always looking for excuses to enjoy a beer. And once again, science (SCIENCE!) comes through. A study out of Austria’s University of Graz says that a beer can loosen up our brain and promote more thinking that would fall outside of the box.
However, that same study also acknowledges that beer can inhibit “executive control.” AKA, fine motor functions. So if you’re area of creativity includes dance or say…heavy machinery…your brilliant or ground breaking idea will likely be overshadowed by it’s potential poor performance.
So…sounds like I need to experiment with the ratios of beers consumed to good ideas. I’ll report back on my extensive research at a later date. — [eric]
In case you missed it, here’s my chat with Jeremy and Richard from Arcade Fire before they closed out Lollapalooza last weekend…and we learn sugar is not an appropriate way to congratulate them on having the #1 record in the country.
What if the lyrics to Panic! At the Disco’s ‘i Write Sins Not Tragedies’ were redone with references to pizza? These are the silly things that go through my comedy buddy Andy Milne on a daily basis, we’ll have the 101WKQX on in his 1990 Honda Civic (yes, it still runs) and he will on the stop give the lyrics to a song the ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic treatment. He posted this the other day, and I lost it. It’s so ridiculous but sometimes that’s what makes life worth living right? A good song and a slice of pizza is just some of life’s simple pleasures, so why not throw a joke on top of it?
Meanwhile Brendon Urie and company are riding high after a very successful arena tour this past spring. Urie this past week finished his run in the Broadway musical ‘Kinky Boots’ to sold-out audiences.
Jimmy Eat World played an intimate lounge before their show with Incubus at the Hollywood Casino Amp, and we had a lot of fun.

We Chicagoans need to milk as much of out summer as possible. And we are GOOD at it. Here’s a cool spot to spend some remaining warm Summer days according Kelly Rizzo.
What Ya Missed, Drunk National Anthem, She’s Crafty, Pete Lee & Michael Palasack in studio, Eat Travel Rock and awful relationship contracts.
Queens of the Stone Age are releasing a new album in two weeks called ‘Villains’ and headlining Riot Fest in 36 days, so why not release a new song, right? Today the band uploaded this audio on their Youtube with this creepy dancing devil puppet for a groovy track called “THE EVIL HAS LANDED”.
The song features elements you may recall from their breakthrough ‘Songs For the Deaf’ album with washy guitars, layered high end vocals, and then a hip-shaking breakdown near the end. The Queens have not dulled their edges, but adding some stompy clappy dance vibes is welcoming.
If you have not heard the other new QOTSA track released in June, here is ‘The Way You Used to Do’

Less than a week before his untimely death, Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington joined the band for a filming of an episode of Carpool Karaoke: The Series. But whether the episode ever sees the light of day will be “completely” up to Bennington’s family.
On Tuesday, Late Late Show host and Carpool Karaoke executive producer James Corden told the Associated Press that Bennington’s family will be consulted about the episode’s future.
