The Chicago Tool Library is a non-profit library filled with tools for home repair and gardening, sewing, cooking, camping, and so much more. Opening just a few months before the pandemic, the Library survived a challenging few years and is now thriving. The library first resided in Bridgeport, but now can be found in West Garfield Park.
The Chicago Tool Library is open on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. More information can be found here.
The Chicago mayoral race between Brandon Johnson and Paul Vallas comes to an end today in Chicago’s runoff election. Polls will be open on Tuesday, April 4, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Chicago voters are eligible to cast their ballot at any voting site in the city, regardless of where they live.

White Sox closer Liam Hendriks, who has been battling non-Hodgkin lymphoma since January, began his last round of chemotherapy on Monday. In a video on the White Sox Twitter account, the Australian-born hurler said, “Happy opening day, Sox fans. Just want to let you know I’m starting my last round of chemo today so I’ll see you guys on the South Side soon. Play ball.”

A giant spoon that belonged to a Phoenix Dairy Queen went missing last month has been found. Phoenix police confirmed Monday that the 15-foot restaurant decoration was found by a man who was playing Pokemon Go at a nearby park.
The 15-foot spoon is valued at $3500, which makes this a possible felony theft.

South Siders, get to Guaranteed Rate Field earlier than you were initially planning today. In an effort to combat the incoming storms, the White Sox announced that first pitch will be at 2:10, instead 3:10, with patio access beginning at 12:30.
The Sox split a four-game series with the defending World Champion Astros to start the season. Their first home stand will come against the 1-2 Giants, who struggled opening up their season against the Yankees.
Robert Smith of The Cure have cancelled 7,000 tickets found on secondary resale websites. The band made an effort to make tickets as affordable as possible by opting out of “dynamic” and “platinum-priced” tickets and chose to make tickets non-transferable. After the discovery of these tickets, Smith took to Twitter, saying,

A woman was pulled from the ashes of a chocolate factory explosion in Pennsylvania after she herself fell into a vat of chocolate while on fire, thus extinguishing her and saving her life.
Patricia Borges wound up breaking her collarbone and both of her heels in the destruction of the fire, and after nine hours of agony, she was eventually saved by rescue crews.
The March 24 blast at R.M. Palmer killed seven of Borges’s co-workers and injured 10.
On Friday night, concert goers at Belvidere’s Apollo Theater witnessed abject horror as a severe storms rolled through the area and collapsed the roof of the venue while patrons were inside. According to Belvidere Fire Chief Shawn Schadle, the building has been condemned after the damage from the storm, which was a tornado, according to Boone County Director of Emergency Management Dan Zaccard.
A 50-year-old man was killed by way of the damage.

Peter Starostecki is a vegan who loves tofu, so much so that he proudly gets behind the wheel of a car that has a plate that reads, ‘ILUVTOFU’. That’s the thing about Peter Starostecki: he loves tofu. His entire car is decorated with tofu-related stickers and if you think there’s anything else going on here, you are a part of the problem.
As Starostecki explains in the news clip above, which has the same tone and pacing as a murder mystery, not everyone buys Starostecki’s vegan-related message. In fact, the state of Maine thinks he’s a dirty dog.
The state ordered Starostecki to remove his plate, and offered him a consolation prize that reads “V3GAN”. A man of strong moral fiber, our main character has passed on this vanity plate and has opted to live a life of normalcy in a way of saying “FU” to the people that love to hate him.

It’s a great time to be alive for Chicago baseball fans. Both teams were victorious on Opening Day, and both games were super QUICK.
The Cubs stomped the Brewers, winning 4-0 off the back of new addition Dansby Swanson, who was excellent. He finished with three hits and an RBI.
The White Sox defeated the World Series Champion Astros in a thrilling affair. Dylan Cease was brilliant, hurling 6.1 innings and striking out 10. Although it got hairy towards the end, the bullpen was able to keep things close and after some timely hitting from Andrew Vaughn, the South Siders took the lead in the 9th and never looked back.
The Sox will be back at it on Friday night, whereas the Cubs will have to wait until Saturday to take the field again.

Samiam are a forever under-appreciated punk outlet from California. “Stowaway” marks their first release in nine years. They’ll be at the Metro alongside The Bouncing Souls at the Metro on May 11.
