Chester Bennington’s Son releases video for Suicide Prevention Week

Draven Bennington, the son of Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington appeared in a video today as part of National Suicide Prevention Week, and he challenged viewers “help yourself, not hurt yourself”. It’s moving to see Chester’s family commit to this effort for better mental health, in the wake of his tragic death in July.

If you or anyone you know is dealing with suicidal thoughts, help is not far away. Call 1-800-273-8255 to speak with those that can help at the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

Linkin Park last week released a video that covered the worldwide tributes to Bennington after his death, you can see that here.

On July 25th, when Linkin Park would have been performing in the 101WKQX Lounge in Chicago, we celebrated the life of Chester Bennington with over an hour of his music and words, insight from Dr. Drew, your calls and lots of love. You can listen to that here.

Nintendo bringing NES Classic back, Increasing production on SNES Classic

Last year, Nintendo released the NES Classic Mini with pre-loaded 8-bit classics for the holiday season. It sold out quickly with few stores being able to get the limited-edition item in stock for long and then the company announced they would cease production of it in April. Have no fear, you can still bring back the first generation Nintendo fun in 2018 as IGN reports that THE NES Mini Classic will go back into production in summer 2018.  “Next summer, Nintendo will … bring back the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition system with new shipments. More information about the timing of the return of NES Classic Edition will be announced in the future.” the video game giant said in a statement.

Nintendo also announced earlier this year that they would roll out the obvious next reboot with SNES Classic Mini which would feature several 16-bit favorites including the previously unreleased ‘StarFox 2’. It’s already been a massive success, and there is a planned increase in it’s production to meet demand. This may see Nintendo shifting these reboot consoles from limited runs to more consistent flow to retail locations to simply meet the demand for the consoles which are priced at $79.99.

Hurricane Irma Victims Need Our Help

I was born and raised in Palm Harbor, Florida, just north of Clearwater Beach.  My FL friends and family from all over the state have been checking in, including my main MVP Erica who was Team A Disaster Protocol at Morton Plant Hospital in Dunedin and worked throughout the entire ordeal, her view from the hospital parking lot:

The real heroes:

<3 <3 <3

There are LOTS of ways to help the victims of this historical storm who will need support and resources for a long time to come.

1. Donate or volunteer

Multiple organizations are appealing for donations so they can send volunteers and supplies to the disaster areas.
Crowdfunding site GlobalGiving’s “Hurricane Irma Relief Fund” aims to provide food, water and medicine to survivors. It also plans to offer longer-term recovery assistance in helping people rebuild their communities.
GoFundMe is hosting dozens of crowdfunding campaigns that have been launched by individuals hit by the storm, or by those who want to help.
With Irma expected to displace thousands of pets, the ASPCA Field Investigation and Response FundBest Friends Animal SocietyThe Humane Society of the United States and my personal friends at The Humane Society of Pinellas are seeking donations to boost animal rescue efforts.
Feeding Florida is working with the state’s food banks to make sure people in need are kept fed and hydrated.
Donors Choose has launched a recovery fund to help teachers in Florida and other parts of the southeastern U.S. rebuild their classrooms and replace supplies.

2. Give blood

Blood centers in Florida anticipate a shortage in supply, as their counterparts did in Texas following Hurricane Harvey.
Search online for blood drives local to you via the Red Cross website to book an appointment, or visit the LifeSouth website if you are in Florida.

 3. Provide accommodation for evacuees

Airbnb is seeking homeowners in Florida and northern Georgia who are willing to open their homes for free to people who have been displaced by the hurricane and for relief workers who are deployed to help.

VIRAL: Guy Writes Goodbye Letter to Chicago

Comedian, Eric Barry wrote a letter for Huffington Post saying goodbye to Chicago and Chicagoans aren’t too happy about it.  The piece chronicled Barry’s 3½ years here, with him writing about having trouble making new friends, meeting women, near death experiences and struggling with transportation (WHO TOLD HIM THE L WAS AMAZING?!).

“Chicago seemed like a place so full of hope and promise” after moving from San Francisco in 2014, Barry wrote. “But three some odd years later, my own spirit, just like my body, have come to feel beaten, defeated.”

People are pissed because he goes on to criticize our proud city, culture and politics.

Hurricane Irma Causes Ocean To Disappear

Hurricane Irma is so powerful that it STOLE water from the beaches in the Bahamas and Florida!! intense that it has sucked up massive amounts of water from beaches in Bahamas and Florida in recent days. This incredible phenomenon will blow your mind and make you skeptical but it is indeed real. The super low pressure in the center of the storm pull in air and water from nearby areas into the eye of the storm. It’ temporary, but it makes for some wild photos when you see that the ocean disappeared.

30 Seconds To Mars’ Leto Went Blind For New Role

I don’t know if anyone can ever accuse Jared Leto of not working.  Besides being an Oscar-winning actor, his passion for music is evident when he lets you know that 30 Seconds To Mars is not a side project.  He and the band spend months and months on the road touring and connecting with fans.

Now, method acting?  Maybe you can accuse Leto of going overboard…or maybe it’s exactly the thing that makes his various performances stand out.

Jared has a pivotal role in the Blade Runner sequel coming out October 6th.  He plays a blind android manufacturer.  And in order to understand his role, he wore contact lenses that not only gave the appearance of his lack of sight, but diminished his own to the point that he couldn’t see —- he had have a person assist him from place to place.

If you haven’t had a chance yet, see this short that gives you the backstory on his character.  And keep an ear for “Walk On Water” on 101WKQX, the lead single from the band’s upcoming fifth album.

‘Die Hard’ Turned Into Illustrated Christmas Book

“It’s A Wonderful Life” wasn’t always the Christmas classic we know it as today.

In fact, it was a box office failure in 1946 and came out to mixed reviews.  It wasn’t until about three decades later that it gained steam as a family staple and, according to Wikipedia, “one of the most loved films in American cinema and has become traditional viewing during the Christmas season.”

1988’s Die Hard might be headed the same path.

Argued over whether it belongs on the list of holiday cinematic classics, it will be adapted this year into an illustrated holiday book called A Die Hard Christmas: The Illustrated Holiday Classic.  It will hit stores on October 17th.  And it’s never too early anymore to do your Christmas shopping —- [eric]

‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ singer Rick Astley covers Foo Fighters

At a special concert to reopen the Manchester Arena which was struck by terrorist attack earlier this year, pop singer Rick Astley delivered a roaring cover of the Foo Fighters ‘Everlong’. This follows up Astley joining the Foos on stage in Japan in August at the Supersonic Festival where he sang as the band covered his mega-meme hit ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’. At that shows, Foo leader Dave Grohl called Astely their ““new best friend.”

Foo Fighters are releasing a new album ‘Concrete and Gold’ on September 15. You can listen to new tracks here: The LIne, The Sky is a Neighborhood, and Run
