The most annoying toy of 2017 is almost certainly the humble fidget spinner. For a short while it was ubiquitous: sold in supermarkets, dodgy corner stores, and basically anywhere you can drop money. Arcade Fire even put their new album on one for $109 a pop. And now, there’s a phone version. (MORE HERE)
STAR WARS; The Last Jedi rolled out a fresh trailer before it’s release in December during last night’s Monday Night Football game on ESPN. With tickets on sale. It provoked all the mutl-generational feels and just share a genuine reaction I made a loud unmanly gasp watching the closing moments. It teases the Jedi maturity of Rey with Luke Skywalker becoming her mentor, the evil return of Kylo Ren, and a taste of possible villainous turn by a key character to an opposing force. ‘Last Jedi’ hits theaters on December 15th with tickets already on sale.
Collider goes into a complete frame for frame details on the potential meaning behind every bit that is teased here and what it means to each character.
The distinctive Technicolor cans of LaCroix sparkling water are an increasingly popular sight in stores and on kitchen tables around the country. (If you’re old enough to remember the Snapple phenomenon of the 1990s, this is like that—just bubbly.) But as The Wall Street Journalrecently pointed out, few of the beverage’s loyal fans have any idea what it is they’re drinking. (MORE HERE)
Her name is Kristina Schiano and she’s a BAD ASS!! I love her YouTube channel. She does tons of covers. This one is Panic! At The Disco – I Write Sins Not Tragedies (watch below)
Youtube nerd culture channel Cinemasscare gave me a nostaglia trip to the 90’s with their look back at the middle school horror anthology show ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark?’ which aired on Nickolodeon. The show featured kids around a campfire telling scary stories with each episode featuring a new story that usually played off a known urban myth. This video shows off how unique the show in it’s 7 seasons, without having to deliver gore or explicit violence that you can’t get away with in a live action kids shows. It did feel like this show was just little bit beyond what you are supposed to watch as a kid, but stayed in the realm of scares.
My favorite episode that I can recall is the one where the kid steals the clown’ statue’s nose from a creepy fun house and he gets haunted by the clown follows to terrorize him at his home. Here is a clip to help you remember, ZEEEBO!
Some of the scares don’t hit when your adult but the creepiness is still very much there. Another reminder that clowns are scary unless their name is Bozo.
‘AYotD’ does not exactly age well, but it did serve it’s pre-teen audience with a fantasy horror world and even helped the careers of actors who have gone on to other things. Before he was a Blade Runner, Ryan Gosling shared screen time on this show with comedian Gilbert Gottfried.
Film reviewer Chis Stuckman gives you even more of a lookback at this show which was “the X-Files for kids”.

It’s been a week since Tom Petty passed away. Kevin and I were just scrolling through the tribute played by 101WKQX artists and here’s what we found in terms of tribute at recent concerts:
The Killers – “American Girl”
Brandon Flowers and crew opened up their set at Austin City Limits with this:
The Killers – “The Waiting”
Later in the set, they hit up another tune:
Cage The Elephant – “Mary Jane’s Last Dance”
Honestly, is there anything better than that harmonica?
Red Hot Chili Peppers/Josh Klinghoffer – “Face In The Crowd”
This seems to be Josh’s thing with the band, paying tribute in the past to Chris Cornell. At Austin City Limits, he tackled Full Moon Fever:
What You Missed – What Kind Of Weirdo Wears Socks While Having Sex – Marathon Recap – Did Anyone Get The Sauce – Is It Florida – Real American Douche Bag – Do You Pregame Before Work?
So, of this Video 4/Pack…which is (ahem)….the “King Of The World” for Weezer?
Buddy Holly
It’s 90s nostalgia….with a 70s nostalgic video…about 50s nostalgia. What will the band do for THIS decade?
Keep Fishin’
Not EVERY band gets to have the Muppets appear in their music video.
Beverly Hills
R.I.P., Hef. And I don’t even care if the Hugh Hefner/Playboy thing skews the voting.
Pork And Beans
Want to remember what the internet was “meme-ing” back in 2008? Here is your official archive.
So now you’ve seen the contestants. Now vote. If you could only live with one of these Weezer videos while excluding all others FOREVER….which of these do you choose? GAH….why do we even have to choose?!? — [eric]
Lauren Mayberry of CHVRCHES shut down a random proposal for marriage like she was Luke Longley of the 90’s Bulls blocking a shot. At a show IN 2015, Mayberry had a random voice in the crowd shout out “MARRY ME! NOW!” to which Mayberry responded with the following shut-downs in front of a large crowd no less.
She was not fond of the question being popped, and sighted her grumpiness. It was also funny for her to ask how often something like this actually works. No matter what, it made for a very funny concert moment which you can see play out in the video above.
Check out Lauren’s interview with CHVRCHES backstage at LOLLA 2014 where they do not appear to be grumpy.
Great idea from McDonald’s to cash in on the Rick & Morty fame and bring back their szechuan sauce yesterday. But the limited quantities and locations where it was available appears to have left people clamoring for more. So, here you go: make your own damn szechuan sauce (and authentic nuggets, too)…from scratch, at home. Before your brain melts. — [eric]
The Foo Fighters brought the party out west last night at their stacked one-day festival CalJam with Queens of the Stone Age, Cage the Elephant, Wolfe Alice and more but their headlining set had a memorable collaboration. The Foos were joined by former Oasis front man Liam Gallagher (who also played CalJam) and Aerosmith gutarist Joe Perry for a rousing cover of the Beatles track ‘Come Together’. You can watch the party break out here with Gallagher leaping into the crowd for a surf. He seemed quite into it.
The Foos set also feature guest spots from 80’s soul pop singer Rick Astley to cover “Never Gonna Give You Up” and the Kill’s Allsion Mosshart who contributed to the new ‘Concrete & Gold’ song ‘La Dee Da’. Videos of those collabs are below. Thanks to Consequence of Sound for clueing us in on these.
Warner Bros posted the latest trailer for the most anticipated superhero movie of the year, Justice League just a few hours ago and it’s already the number 1 trending video on Youtube. The interest is there, but does it look good? Can this superhero team-up bounce back from the negative criticism that was piled on ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and deliver the goods? It looks like it can.
This latest teaser features Lois Lane enduring a pretty moving dream, the world’s fallout of Superman passing on, and the bad-ass assembling of a pretty formidable squad of super-people inlcuding Cyborg, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, and grey-haired Batman. The surgary sweet comedy at the end of this trailer is enjoyable and shows the young lion hero poking the old lion in an endearing way. There is an on-point soundtrack here with yet-to-discovered band covered David Bowie’s ‘Heroes’.
Warner Bros has gone through a lot with the production of ‘Justice League’ due out next month. The film’s director Zach Snyder left the project after the tragic death of his daughter during re-shoots and was replaced by acclaimed movie master Joss Whedon who previously deliver Marvel’s epic ‘Avengers’ films. Then there was the rumors that Ben Affleck was itching to get out of the Batsuit over creative pressure pinned on his solo Batman movie, and how about the box-office busting of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman? That’s a lot for a movie that fans have been waiting years for.
And if this was enough movie nerdery, there is reportedly a fresh trailer due out soon for ‘Star Wars: the Last Jedi’
The Cubs have a 1 game lead going into tonight’s NLDS playoff game and their opponents the Washington Nationals are making some adjustments to bounce back with a win to even the series. The biggest adjustment may be off the the field as their ballpark security is reportedly confiscating the famous ‘W’ flag from Chicago Cubs fans in attendance. Some have stated security officials took the flags before fans could get into the game. Several fans had the W flags out at Friday’s game which the Cubs won. This news was reported earlier today by several outlets including Yahoo Sports, and several fans have tweeted about the nasty experience.
The argument on the side of the Nationals is that this could be a distraction and disrupt the game in the stands for anyone watching, but what about those red towels they whip around during a strike out? Yeah, this is really childish and petty on the part of the Nationals. I am a White Sox fan, and I am saying that. Don’t worry we will continue to FLY THE WKQX on our socials.
This first tweet shows National security having Cubs fans (WHO PAID TO COME TO THEIR BALLPARK) have their flags confiscated and filling out paperwork.
