The aquarium stays open late on the second Friday of every month for a “Jazz Night” with a cash bar. I remember my first beer.

This is a real thing. A 40lb pizza that takes two cook to move into an oven and was made in limited orders by a New York pizzeria. It comes from Champion Pizza, and it has a charity tie-in which on the post-consumption side is probably one of the benefits. Thanks to NBC New York for this video that show of this caloric titan.
Putting aside the New York vs. Chicago pizza debate, this is impressive in sheer engineering let alone cooking.
Creepy Video: Venture into an abandoned big box store
Part of the the Halloween season is the willingness to look at the creepiness in fiction and film but Bright Sun Films embraces the real life oddity of an abandoned Kmart store in Michigan. This specific store has been vacant and devoid of activity since the late 1990’s. Yeah, it looks like a horror movie waiting to happen as this video brings you through the dead space.
Oh did you think this was an old Venture store? Sorry, didn’t mean to mislead. Speaking of that old by-gone brand of midwest retail, Fuzzy Memories posted this nostalgic 16mm video of what shopping centers looked like on the south suburban side of Chicago. The devastation and damage caused by Hurricane Michael has ravaged communities in five states. Here are some ways you can help those affected.

Donations enable the Red Cross to prepare for, respond to and help people recover from disasters.

Westallion Brewing Company in West Allis, Wisconsin debuted a new beer flavor just for the fall. OH MAN ! You either will love this or hate this!

Whether you love it, or claim to hate it, there’s no denying that Candy Corn is THE Halloween staple candy. Made famous by the Goelitz Confectionery Company (now Jelly Belly), this seasonal favorite that was originally called “chicken feed” has been stuffed into orange pumpkin buckets since the late 1800’s!
But what is it?
Candy Corn is basically a load of sugar bound together by corn syrup, gelatins and other artificial flavors and colors.
But for us, we just couldn’t help but wonder what candy corn would be like as a beer…..our love runs that deep.
So, at the base, we created a cream ale using lactose sugars to keep some sweetness, but added Simcoe hops to create a bit of a bite and a balance (and maybe help remind us that it’s still beer?). Instead of smashing up some candy corns and throwing them in our beer, we made our own candy corn out of less beer destructive ingredients and threw them into our beer!
While pumpkin beers might continue to dominate the Halloween beer markets, look West to Westallion to lead them into a new direction!

Chicago tops ‘best big city’ list
With news stories framing Chicago as a Mad Max-level hellscape, it’s nice to get the occasional affirmation that, yeah, Chicago is a phenomenal city.
The readers of Conde Nast voted Chicago the #1 big city in America. Close to a half million votes were counted, and Chicago was at the top of a competitive list that also included Honolulu, San Francisco, New Orleans and New York.
Summarizing Chicago, the site credits “magnificent architecture, stunning museums, brilliant chefs, a massive brewing scene, and so much to do that you’ll never see it all.”
