Hershey’s is going to start making a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup with 40% less chocolate and peanut butter.

When I first read this I was like …. HERSHEY’S … Do you have NO SOUL?

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups aren’t necessarily a good part of a healthy diet and Hershey’s knows it.  So their answer is . . . slightly smaller Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups!   Wait … didn’t they do this with those little annoying ones?

Hershey’s just announced they’re going to start selling a new version of Reese’s Cups in March that are 40% thinner than the current ones.  So that means less chocolate, less peanut butter, and, by definition, fewer calories and less sugar.

There’s no word on exactly HOW much “healthier” they’ll be, but if we reduce the numbers on a current Reese’s Cup by 40%, you’d drop from 110 calories to 66 . . . 6.5 grams of fat to 3.9 . . . and 11 grams of sugar to 6.6.

This sounds fine and dandy but this is NOT  gonna stop me from eating 20 of them.

Halloween in Chicago, 1988

Satanic ritual? Check. Haunted house? Yep. Circus of rats? Sure thing.

Welcome to the Chicago of the late 80s. Credit to Dan Dinello of Media Burn Archive for restoring and piecing together the content of this film. And thanks to Block Club Chicago for posting about it, which brought it to our attention!

From the Media Burn description:

Break out the candy and grab your favorite mask because it’s almost time for Halloween. To celebrate the spooky holiday, we dug into the archive and found some fascinating, and entertaining, Halloween footage from across the years. Dan Dinello’s Chicago Halloween showcases the 1988 celebration of the spooky holiday with a costume contest judged by Freddy Krueger, Rat Girl’s troupe of acrobatic rats, and more. We also found clips of a Halloween wedding, trick-or-treaters with a former First Lady, and even some dancing skeletons.

Horrified audiences force re-edit of upcoming flick

The teaser trailer to “The Prodigy” sets the right horror tone:

Apparently, there’s a scene in it that’s so frightening that the screams from a test audience drowned out what happened next. Director Nicholas McCarthy told EW he had to re-edit the sequence so the audience won’t miss the dialog when the movie hits theaters on February 8, 2019.

Except where prohibited by law, participation in the Contest constitutes winner’s consent to use by the Station and its agent of winner’s name, likeness, photograph, voice, opinions and/or biographical information (including hometown and state) for promotional purposes in any media, worldwide, without further payment or consideration.

Any attempt by any person to deliberately undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest may be a violation of criminal and civil law, and, should such an attempt be made, Station reserves the right to seek damages from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. Station’s failure to enforce any term of these Official Rules shall not constitute a waiver of that provision.
  5. Limitations of Liability. The Released Parties are not responsible for: (1) any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by Station, entrants, printing errors or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Contest; (2) technical failures of any kind, including but not limited to malfunctions, interruptions, or disconnections in phone lines or network hardware or software; (3) unauthorized human intervention in any part of the entry process or the Contest; (4) technical or human error which may occur in the administration of the Contest or the processing of entries; or (5) any injury or damage to persons or property which may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from entrant’s participation in the Contest or receipt or use, non-use or misuse of any prize. 6. Entrant agrees that: (i) any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Contest, or any prizes awarded, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action; (ii) any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Contest, or any prizes awarded, shall be resolved exclusively by the United States District Court or the appropriate state court located in the Station’s listening area; (iii) any and all claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering this Contest, but in no event attorneys’ fees; and (iv) under no circumstances will entrant be permitted to obtain awards for, and entrant hereby waives all rights to claim punitive, incidental and consequential damages and any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses, and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of entrant and Station in connection with the Contest, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the state in which the Station is located, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules (whether of the state in which the Station is located or any other jurisdiction), which would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the state in which the Station is located.
  7. Entrant’s Personal Information. Information collected from entrants is subject to Station’s Privacy Policy, which is available on the Station’s website under the “Privacy Policy” link. All entry blanks, forms, devices, and materials gathered during the course of entry, as well as all information contained therein, shall become the sole property of Station to be used, disposed of or destroyed in its sole discretion.  Station is not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information entered by website users, and assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to Station’s website.

WATCH: new Smashing Pumpkins video

The “Silvery Sometimes (Ghosts)” video features Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray as a wacky, over-the-top radio host.

In the video, the Smashing Pumpkins, as part of a radio-station promotion, agree to spend the night in a haunted mansion, encountering all things spooky (including McGrath dusting off an old Sugar Ray “classic”.)

WATCH: “The Bandito Tour” captures the highs and lows of Twenty One Pilots’ tour so far.

Twenty One Pilots are capturing moments on their current road trip with The Bandito Tour.  In episode one, experience the pure joy of the band just holding on to the packaging for the new album, “Trench.”   You can also experience the opposite feeling when Josh has an accident during rehearsal.  WARNING:  there is a fair amount of blood, for the squeamish.  — [eric]

Two unearthed Nirvana gems: an interview and a performance before “Nevermind.”

Came across a couple of “before they were famous” moments with Nirvana this week.

First, this audio interview with the band from 1989.  The night after the band played to a couple of handfuls of fans in Hoboken — literally 10 fans — they sat down with music journalist John Robb to discuss their future.  And at that time, the future would have been the work their were putting in on their defining album, “Nevermind.”  Kurt Cobain mentioned one of the songs he wrote had a similar sound to “About A Girl.”  That song ended up a little thing called “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”

The other is this record store performance captured in their hometown of Seattle — just one week before the release of that aforementioned album.  Apparently Kurt was really freaked out that some of his high school peers sought out his autograph during the event.  — [eric]

Netflix cancels ‘American Vandal’ after two seasons

it was the perfect smart comedic take on dumb things.’Amercian Vandal’ a mockumentary series that spoofed true crime shows like ‘Making a Murderer’ with a deep dive into high school pranks was axed this week by Netflix after just two seasons. The show is profoundly entertaining and binge-wortthy for sure, but for whatever reason Netflix said no more faux documentaries about who spray painted male body parts on a car and the cover-up surrounding it.

The second season advanced the concept with the teen film makers taking the sheanigans from their own school, to a new shcool with poop jokes. It was refreshing look at the high school culuture and the characters you knew back in the day.
