McCaulay Culkin reviews those awful Home Alone sequels & video games

Milwaukee-based Youtube channel Red Letter Media scored quite the get this week when actor and podcaster McCaulay Culkin appeared on their ‘Best of the Worst’ Series where they review random bad movies, but this time it was not so random. He brought along ‘Home Alone 4: Taking Back the House’, an unnecessary cash-grab sequel that was distant from the original two films which really hold a place in any 90’s kid’s heart.  The RLM guys also endure a bad movie about a man reincarnated in a dog and a lousy post apocalypse flick. The ‘Home Alone’ segment starts at 43 minutes into the episode.

101WKQX did our own Home Alone for the holidays spoof a while back.

Culkin has been actively promoting his new podcast, Bunny Ears on several other digital shows recently including appearing as ‘Pizza Boy’ on Angry Video Game Nerd to review the ‘Home Alone’ video games. Note there is some NSFW language.

Guy scorches cheating girlfriend with this hilariously-inappropriate cover tune.

This is a love story as old as time (as told through a Reddit post).

Boy falls in love with girl.  Girl cheats on boy.  Boy breaks up with girl.  Girl BEGS boy to get back together.  Boy then writes scathing cover of The Proclaimer’s “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” as a response to the reunion request.  Enjoy (but in an appropriate place — NSFW lyrics).  — [eric]

Watch The Wombats cover Bing Crosby for seasonal feels

UK wonder boys the Wombats covered this holiday gem ‘White Christmas’ for the popular Triple J web series ‘Like a Version’. The song sees the band accompanied by a sleigh bells, a dreamy string section, and swooning horn section to boot. Oh and the chimes, don’t forget the chimes.

Excuse me while I hurl… Disgusting Food Museum opens

The Disgusting Food Museum just opened in Los Angeles’ Arts District and is living up to its name. Visitors are able to take part in consuming such items as roast guinea pig, canned pig brains and even bull penis. And of course, a tasting bar is available for visitors. “I haven’t gotten sick from anything so far,” says curator Sam West. Although he does believe that “it’s going to happen.” Just like another museum with the same theme in Sweden, a barf bag is supplied with every ticket. “We have had a few run for the exits,” said Tor Hansson, who has come from Sweden to help with the L.A. exhibit.

Human heart left on Southwest flight

Sure, it’s not unusual when a passenger leaves something like a piece of luggage on a plane. It is, however, highly unusual when a human heart doesn’t get deplaned.

On a recent Southwest flight, a human heart was accidentally kept on board instead of getting unloaded in Seattle prompting an in-air turnaround. “There was no intended recipient,” spokesperson Deanna Santana said. “While this gift was rerouted, it was received unharmed…to prepare the valves for future transplant.” The heart still arrived at its destination with time to spare.

Would You Give Up Your Phone for All of 2019 for $100,000?

Vitaminwater just announced a new contest where they’ll pay someone $100,000 . . . if they give up their phone for ALL of 2019.

If they pick you, you’ll have to go 365 straight days without using your smart phone, iPad, or anyone else’s smart phone or iPad.  And you have to take a LIE DETECTOR at the end to prove you stuck to the rules.

If you did, you get $100,000.  If you only made it six months, you get $10,000.

But they don’t want you to be totally screwed in case of emergencies, so they’ll be giving you a, quote, “1996-era cellular telephone” that you can use for calls.

If you want to enter the contest, you need to post on Twitter or Instagram and say how you’d use your year if you didn’t have your smart phone, and use the hashtags #NoPhoneForAYear and #Contest.  Entries are due by January 8th.

GOOD LUCK!

Drive a Toyota or Lexus?

“Toyota is recalling about 70,000 Toyota and Lexus brand vehicles in North America to replace air bag inflators that could explode and hurl shrapnel at drivers and passengers.

The recall covers the 2003 to 2005 Corolla, the 2002 to 2005 Sequoia, the 2003 to 2005 Tundra and the 2002 to 2005 Lexus SC.

Takata uses the chemical ammonium nitrate to create a small explosion and inflate the bags. But it can deteriorate and burn too fast, blowing apart a metal canister.

The Toyota and Lexus vehicles were recalled previously and the inflators replaced with new ones that still used ammonium nitrate. In the latest recall, Toyota will use inflators made by another company with a safer chemical.”

Wait, so they are recalling vehicles that were already recalled to replace the airbags for a second time?!

Highest rated burgers in the country

I succumb to click bait now and again, especially when it has to do with burgers.  As I was scrolling through the beautifully illustrated list of highest rated burgers in the country at farandwide.com I was getting upset that Chicago had no representation.  A lot of meat from TX, CA, PA and even TN but no IL love.  Until I got to picture 22 out of 30 and saw the glorious hunk of cow that is the Minotaur Burger from Kuma’s Corner:

Then 25 of 30 the unmistakable single cheeseburger from Au Cheval:

Which now has me hungry but also thinking… where else in Chicago has outstanding burgers that should have made this list?  Off the top of my head: Lockdown, Uncommon Ground, The Loyalist, Umami, and (not Chicagocentric but equally good eats) Shake Shack.

What say you?  Tweet me: @laurenoneil

Chewbacca contest may be best prank ever

Saw this one on BlockClubChicago this morning. A man took an ongoing prank war with a friend to creative new heights. As Block Club reports, the prankster “plastered 200 ‘Chewbacca roar contest’ fliers to light poles and signs in Ukrainian Village.” And those fliers displayed his friend’s phone number.

You can hear the results in the video below and get more details from BlockClubChicago here.

Airplane coffee is a flight risk

You might want to get your coffee inside the airport before your flight instead of getting in on the plane. A new airline food study says we travelers should probably avoid the water airplanes use while flying.  While there are no reports of anyone getting sick from airplane coffee, the EPA says disease-causing pathogens might be in 15 percent of commercial airplane water.

As Today.com notes, “the water you drink is only as clean as the hoses and tanks used to transport and store it.” And you might be unhappy to learn that disinfection and flushing are only required 1-4 times a year.

The experts say to stick with canned or bottled beverages if you want to minimize risk. You can always get coffee when you land.
