In Trent Reznor’s hometown Cleveland this past week, Mumford and Sons performed a rousing cover of Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt” in their impressive in-the-round arena presentation.
The song appeared originally on 1994 album ‘the Downward Spiral’ and has endured as an emotional classic that has been covered by several artists. Most notable of these covers was country legend Johnny Cash whose cover of the song was for his ‘American Recordings’ series in 2003. Reznor was said to be so moved when he first saw the memorable music video for the track, that he wept and expressed that it felt like it was no longer his song.
The song transcended under Cash to represent the harshness of coming to end of one’s life and possibly coming to that conclusion with deep regrets. Cash would lose his wife and follow musician June three months after the video was filmed. Cash himself in failing health, would die just a few months after that.

Today is March 10th. And “Mar. 10” looks a like the name of the most beloved Nintendo character of all time — Mario. Hence, today’s “National Mario Day” celebration.
Here’s just a few things Mario for help you celebrate. Sorry, Luigi. — [eric]
Here’s the current record holder for the fastest run through Super Mario Bros.
This got dark REAL quick. What happens when Mario dies?
The Super Mario Bros. theme…..remixed.
According to this TikTok user — we’ve all been making a bigger deal of hacking up a pineapple to eat than is necessary.
So, in theory, the fruit is ready-to-eat and that we all throw out our knives and pineapple-core tools. Gotcha.
Many people weighed in on Twitter — including this general sentiment:
…so, we’ve been EATING IT WRONG? pic.twitter.com/oCUeQbYy3a

But there is also this from Lifehacker, that says this method is messy, inefficient, and unhygienic (in their brief unscientific study).
Frankly, sign me up for THIS METHOD any day. Knife play is fun and safe for the WHOLE family. — [eric]
Kirk Fog and Olmec are back! Well sort of. The beloved live-action Nickelodeon game show ‘Legends of the Hidden Temple’ gets the ’30 for 30′ treatment in this spoof from Charlie Berens. It’s neat that Fog actually made fun of the TV gig that made him famous. The ‘Behind the Music’ fall-from-grace story is the highlight.
Meet and greet photos from Switchfoot in The Lounge!
Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl is lending out his guitar throne again, this time to Old Dominion’s Mathew Ramsey.
Ramsey decided to undergo surgery to fix his legs from an injury that happened last year. Old Dominion actually postponed several dates of their Make It Sweet Tour in order to give him some time to recuperate.
But with the help of Dave Grohl, and Ramseys ‘the show must go on’ attitude, they are moving forward with the performances!
After asking Grohl for the chair the band outfitted it with the OD logo and lights, they posted the transfermation on Instagram.
Its been used by Dave Grohl, Axl Rose, Rod Stewart and now, Matthew Ramsey!
Wonder who will be using it next.

The great Nickelback debate has made its way to Congress!
Democrats and Republicans have found yet another hot topic to disagree on, which turned a bill debate into an argument over the band everyone loves to hate.

Congress had met to debate the Democrats’ H.R. bill; which would overhaul voting, campaign finance, and ethics law.
Democratic Rep. Mark Pocan compared the number of people wanting particular voting right provisions to “the percent of people who think Nickelback is their favourite band in this country.”
Republican Rep. Rodney Davis asked why he would “criticize one of the greatest bands of the 90s.” Pocan was quick with a joke, stating “One more reason why there’s a difference between Democrats and Republicans.”
Davis also spoke about how he has Nickleback on his running playlist, even posting a photo of the playlist later on Twitter.

Disney will be making it’s ‘entire motion picture library’ available on it’s upcoming streaming video service according to a report today by Polygon. The on-demand subscription service called ‘Disney+’ has growing expectations for what it could offer with the ‘Mouse’ company currently owning Marvel, Star Wars, and their own animated classics that dates back to the 1920’s. There is no confirmed date when the service will be available.
Disney CEO Bob Iger clarified the wealth of content on the upcoming streaming service at today’s investors meeting in St. Louis:
The service, which I mentioned earlier is going to launch later in the year, is going to combine what we call library product, movies, and television, with a lot of original product as well, movies and television. And at some point fairly soon after launch it will house the entire Disney motion picture library, so the movies that you speak of that traditionally have been kept in a “vault” and brought out basically every few years will be on the service. And then, of course, we’re producing a number of original movies and original television shows as well that will be Disney-branded.
For many years, Disney would market the release of classics like ‘Little Mermaid’ as coming out of the ‘Disney Vault’ for limited releases on Blu-Ray or other home video formats. Now with this streaming service, that release pattern will fade off.
Iger also noted that future Disney films will be available on the Disney+ service within a year of their theatrical release.

The Black Keys are back after a five year hiatus that included solo work and a run with the Arcs from singer/guitarist Dan Auerbach while drummer Patrick Carney produced on albums for several artists. The duo who broke out big with hits like ‘Gold on the Ceiling’ and ‘Tighten Up’ and worldwide acclaim in the process as one of the biggest alternative bands of the 2000’s are cued up for a big year with more new music expected and some shows ahead. They released their first new single in five years today, it’s called ‘Lo/Hi’.
The track has the band’s swerving blend of soulful rock with rousing backing vocals and lyrics that project the bi-polar emotions of the general human existence.
Check out our 2015 session with Auerbach in the Arcs in our old digs at the Merchandise Mart. It’s touching to see Richard Swift performing here with Auerbach. Swift passed away last year. As a multi-instrumentalist, Swift contributed to music from the Black Keys, the Shins, and more.
So HBO released their final trailer for Game of Thrones this week, and of course, the trailer has inspired dozens of memes.
Take for instance this one of Jon Snow and Daenerys being greeted by dragons, Drogon and Rhaegal.
(HBO)
The Bears Talk Twitter account, which represents Chicago NBC Sports, tried to get in on the fun but they didn’t get the meme right.
Now to some people on Twitter who don’t keep up with Game of Thrones might see it as a decent effort, most thought they missed the bill.
You’ve got two dragons, one being presented as Khalil Mack and the other as Akiem Hicks, staring down two puny humans presented as Aaron Rodgers and Kirk Cousins.
But GOT fans were quick to point out how the symbolism NBC was trying to convey falls apart because the characters are Daenerys Targaryen, “The Mother of Dragons” and Jon Snow, her nephew. Basically, they were saying that Aaron Rodgers and Kirk Cousins control Mack and Hicks. Don’t think that’s what they were meaning to say.

Of course, Twitter users were out to roast them for their mistake.
They need to just delete the whole account now

You still don’t get it… This isn’t the way it works.
— Nancy Carson (@nancycars) March 6, 2019
Then they tried tweeting this out…
when you play the game of thrones, you win or you die pic.twitter.com/MYnoPCpm5Q
— Bears Talk (@NBCSBears) March 6, 2019
I don’t think that even helped them.
It’s too late you can’t fix it the damage is done 😂😂😂

This is why you should know the story behind the meme before posting it. #TheMoreYouKnow
Turns out we’ve been eating pineapple wrong.
(Warning: if you don’t like the sound of someone chewing with their mouth open don’t have the sound on.)
The TikTok video showed a user ripping off individual pieces of the fruit.
Fun fact, a pineapple is called a multiple fruit. Which is just a bunch of berries fused together!
Soon the video made its way to Twitter.
People of course had responses for the video, some on how they’ve been eating it wrong.
…so, we've been EATING IT WRONG? pic.twitter.com/oCUeQbYy3a
