Surprise street performance from Dave Grohl and Brandi Carlile

Seattle’s Pike Place Market costumers had a surprise over the weekend, with Dave Grohl and Brandi Carlie showing up for a surprise performance.

They covered tracks from the Beatles and Foo Fighters during their unexpected set, like “Let It Be” and “Times Like These”, which was broadcasted on Brandi’s Facebook live.


The duo’s set lasted between 15-20 minutes and was joined by Carlile’s bandmates Phil and Tim Hanseroff.

Well, you got hacked? Seems like that is going around, right? It might have not happened if those internet scumbags couldn’t figure out your password to your private info and accounts. Well CNN has revealed that one of our beloved alternative bands, Blink-182 is one of the most hacked passwords.

Blink’s Mark Hoppus gave a playful diss to the band’s fans on Twitter.

A pothole finally did something right

Not sure you’ll find ANYONE here in Chicago that would say they like potholes.

But in a rare turn of events, a Nebraska man was saved when his ambulance hit a pothole, returning his dangerously paced heartbeat returned to normal!

The 59-year-old man’s heartbeat went as high as 200 beats per minute at one point.

A rare story where we aren’t hating on the annoying potholes.

Woodstock 50 called into question after cancelling on-sale date.

Tickets for the 50th anniversary of Woodstock were supposed to go live Monday.  That’s not happening now — but might not be the beginning of the end, as some feared this weekend.

In response to rumors that popped up that the entire thing would be cancelled, founder Michael Lang told Billboard that they were just “rumors.”  It may very well be that a problem in getting a permit may have prompted the brakes to be applied to ticketing.

At any rate, the show is still on for August — featuring bands like The Killers, Imagine Dragons, Cage The Elephant, The Raconteurs, Portugal. The Man, and more.  But the ability to purchase a ticket will clearly ease the fears of fans hoping to make the trek.  — [eric]

Afroman’s “Because I Got High” is the worst and no one should listen to that today.  More on soon, but first:

This is clearly not the “be-all & end-all” lists of songs for today’s unofficial holiday (and for more, see links at the conclusion).  But I thought I would take a moment to rate and provide commentary on some of the more common 4/20 songs you would find on the playlist of an alternative rock enthusiast.  The music is rated on a scale of 1-5…clouds.  And find links to the YouTube videos by hovering over the song title.  And now, without further delay:

Sublime – “Smoke Two Joints”

  • You could pretty much place the entire Sublime catalog on shuffle and you’d have your playlist for the day, if we’re being honest.  Clearly on the Mount Rushmore of pot songs (along with Bob, Willie, and Snoop),  “Smoke Two Joints” will not win points for originality — but certainly will get some slow, steady head nods of approval for the bong sound effects to lead off the song. (SMOKE RATING:💨💨💨💨💨)

Peter Tosh – “Legalize It”

Arctic Monkeys – “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?”

  • A smoking song with a moral.  Because no matter the substance that gave you the courage to fire off the invite, we should all learn that the “booty call” may work a few times, but is not an effective long-term strategy for shaboinking. (SMOKE RATING:💨💨💨💨💨)

Hinder – “Get Stoned”

  • Dear fellows from Hinder:  if your ultimate goal is to “go home and get stoned,” it hardly seems in fitting with the aggro tone you’ve chosen as a vehicle for your message.  thank u, next (SMOKE RATING:💨)

Fun Lovin’ Criminals – “Scooby Snacks”

  • Cool vibe.  Excellent (but illegal) use of Tarantino movie clips.  Would consider recommending to a friend. (SMOKE RATING:💨💨💨)

Sir Sly – “High”

  • Sorry, Karen.  When little Johnny takes “another breath and (he’s) up another level,” it’s not referring to his prowess at video games. (SMOKE RATING:💨💨💨💨)

The Verve – “The Drugs Don’t Work”

  • If you are trying to set a lighthearted party mood, do not put this song on your playlist.  It’s a beautifully somber song about the loved ones we’ve lost along the way.  Stone sober, soberly stoned — either way, you’ve been warned about it’s emotional content. (SMOKE RATING:💨💨💨💨)

Amy Winehouse – “Addicted”

  • Moral of the story:  don’t be a mooch.  Someone smokes you out, you do the same in return next time around.  Learn the code. (SMOKE RATING:💨💨)

Cypress Hill – “Hits From The Bong”

  • This is the equivalent of carrots and celery in a soup.  Sort of a given on any 4/20 playlist, but no connoisseur gets terribly excited its presence. (SMOKE RATING:💨💨💨)

Tove Lo – “Habits (Stay High)”

  • A reminder that lighting up isn’t always about good times and celebrations.  Sometimes you just need to dull the brain while you process s#$t.  (SMOKE RATING:💨💨💨💨)

Oasis – “Champagne Supernova”

  • A smoking song disguised by a a bubbly, headache-inducing alcohol in the title?  Sneaky, sneaky, sneaky…  (SMOKE RATING:💨💨💨💨💨)

Queens Of The Stone Age – “Feel Good Hit Of The Summer”

  • Some may consider the five words in this song the ingredients for a good night.  Others, the chemical formula for a mess.  To each their own.  (SMOKE RATING:💨💨💨)

Afroman – “Because I Got High”

  • Should exist on your playlist for profiling purposes only.  This is the “Macarena” of pot songs. Anyone who gets excited about hearing this is not worthy of being in your “puff and pass” circle of friendship. It had its time and place….and time is thankfully over. (SMOKE RATING: -1000)

PEEPS ON A PIZZA? WHAT DID THAT PIZZA DO YOU TO DESERVE THIS?

Yeah, I guess no one can be nice to the slice. We can credit the folks at Rare for turning us onto this diabolical scheme.

It’s not enough marshmellow madness. Youtube channel WhatTriviaSays feels like humans need to see him make a pizza with Peeps on it.

 

 

How do you feel about Netflix adding a ‘Random Episode’ button?

Sometimes when you pull up Netflix with it’s ever-growing library of on-demand shows and movies, it becomes a hurdle to simply choose what to watch. Yeah, share this article with that person who spends more time deciding what to watch than actually watching something. Well according to the Wrap, you may have a solution coming in the form of a “random episode” button. So basically if you are watching a series, this could randomly play an episode without even having to make the call yourself.

“We are testing the ability for members to play a random episode from different TV series on the Android mobile app. These tests typically vary in length of time and by region, and may not become permanent,” said a Netflix spokesperson in the article.

The feature is currently being tested on the Android mobile version of Netflix on a handful of TV series.

This would be a pretty clever move to give people an option to watch TV with less of the work. Yes, some people think picking a show is ‘work’.

 

 

Cage the Elephant on ‘Late Show’: Matt Schultz has leather and midnight eyes

Cage the Elephant premiered their new album ‘Social Cues’ last night on 101WKQX an hour before the world got it on streaming apps, but the coolest guys in alternative also hit TV screens nationwide on CBS’s ‘Late Show’ with a performance of ‘Ready to Let Go’. The performance showed extra groovy the song is and also can we talk about singer Matt Schultz’s outfit? A tight leath body suit, gold chains, ten gallon cowboy hat, and his eyes pitch black with contacts?!

Is that something I can explain right now? No.

Does it look cool? Yep, looking forward to the tour.

Chicago’s CBD-infused dining options

With 4/20 happening tomorrow, Eater Chicago seized the topical moment by releasing a list of Chicago area restaurants and bars that serve CBD-infused menu options.

The list is strictly north side, which tells us either Eater is missing lots of stuff south of Congress, or that no such options exist in that direction.

Included in the “top 10” is venerable favorite Kuma’s Corner, whose Euphoric CBD cocktails are served in bongs with dry ice “smoke.”
