Since fall has just started, and the cold dark days of winter are looming over our shoulders, it’s time to prepare our bodies and minds to deal with the gross seasonal changes.
Seasonal Affective Disorder, hilariously referred to as SAD, also referred to as Seasonal Depression happens when the weather turns from warm and cozy to cold and dark.
But here are a few tips on how to get through this upcoming SAD season!
Grab some blackout curtains: Why let the outside influence you’re mood? With these curtains, you can block out the constant reminder of grossness outside.
Start a light therapy regimen: This sounds silly, but a lack of sunlight really can affect your mood. To counteract this, try using a 10,000-Lux lightbox for 20-30 min a day.
Go outside when it’s nice out: again, this is a sunlight thing, but it will really help bring up your mood!
Exercise and eat clean: getting a little exercise and eating healthy will always make you feel better
Book a trip: The weather is terrible here, so get out! Go somewhere warm, refresh your batteries!

An Oklahoma woman was hospitalized after she was accidentally shot – by a puppy. 44-year-old Tina Springer was riding in a car with a yellow Labrador named Molly when Molly got spooked by a passing train and jumped onto the center console. Molly’s jump set off a handgun the driver kept in the console, shooting Springer in the thigh. Investigators say they do not suspect foul play and warn motorists to keep guns “in a secure location” when being transported.
Melissa from Orland Park has a chance to enter a new phase in her relationship. She has a great life with her husband of two years, but she just recently reconnected with a friend and it was revealed that the friend and her husband swing. As it turns out, the friend and her husband want our caller and her husband to swing with them.
As you can tell, Melissa doesn’t know what to do. If you have advice for her, tweet at us with the hashtag #RelationshipCourt and let us know what you think she should do.
Whiskey is a classy drink. It’s an alpha among omegas in the world of liquor and beverages. Nothing says high-class, top-of-the-line booze like Glenlivet’s new capsule-like shots of whiskey.
The pods are encased with a form of edible seaweed, essentially making it a Tide Pod, Jell-O shot hybrid. Together, this creates one giant mistake.
I would love to know what enters someone’s mind before downing a pod of whiskey. What life events led you there? Where do you go from there? What’s wrong with this world?
69-year old Wisconsin man Dennis Valstad passed away recently. Valstad was the owner of a small dry-cleaning business who remained unmarried and without kids until his death, leaving him with plenty of money to his name and nothing to do with it.
Valstad got creative with his will and decided that his $500,000 would be divided equally to whoever showed up for his funeral. Valstad assumed not many people would come, but in the end, 270 people showed up to pay their respects, leaving them with about $1,800 each.
This is a great reminder to all to treat others well, and in return, you never know what you can get in return.
We gather here today to remember the “Be.you.tiful Hair Salon” and what used to be their storefront windows. They are now nothing more than a memory of the past, thanks to this deer.
The deer smashed through the glass window and ended up landing a woman who was treated for head and leg pain. The deer, after doing a lap of havoc around the salon, exited the scene and was nowhere to be found when police arrived.
We give our sympathies to the hair salon, but this deer has won the Internet for today.
We just recently discussed how Busch-Light flavored ice cream had become the conductor of the ice cream hype train. Unfortunately for the Busch-Light enthusiasts out there, we have a new ice cream flavor that has our attention.
An ice cream stand in Ecuador has started selling guinea pig flavor ice cream. And yes, if you’re wondering, one of the ingredients is actual guinea pig meat.
Guinea pig is a more common dish in Ecuador. It finds its way onto plates in a few different South American countries, often served with potatoes and a peanut sauce. According to consumers, the ice cream captures the flavor well and it is apparently selling very well. If anyone out there can get their hands on some, the KQX Morning Crew would gladly try it.
Is this the weirdest flavor ice cream flavor you’ve ever heard of? Tweet at us and let us know if you have a flavor that can top this.

Let’s talk Halloween candy. The BAD stuff, at least according to a hybrid survey done by the website Candy Store.
They combined a survey of over 30,000 customers along with a dozen lists made by popular websites to determine the top 10 worst candies that could end up in a trick or treat bag on October 31st. So not incredibly scientific, but — a great jumping off point for arguments.
Here we go. Here are the Top 10 Worst Halloween Candies:
10. Bit-O-Honey
9. Good & Plenty
8. Licorice
7. Smarties
6. Tootsie Rolls
5. Necco Wafers
4. Wax Cola Bottles
3. Peanut Butter Kisses
2. Circus Peanuts
1. Candy Corn

As the BlackHawks get back on the ice, the team welcomes back Andrew Shaw who returns to the team who spent the last three seasons with the Montreal Canadians. The Hawks posted this video of a ‘Mic’d Up’ of Shawzy and his excitement heading into the season which kicks off with the home opener on Thursday, October 10th against the San Jose Sharks.
While you are here, check out Shaw’s panel at the 2019 Hawks convention.
The 1893 World’s Fair was a very historic and formative leap for the United States and our beloved city Chicago, giving us the world’s stage to show off technology, culture, and more. One of the biggest features from the fair was not even open on the first day of the months long event, it was the miraculous for it’s time, Ferris Wheel. The fair’s lead organizer Daniel Burnham and his team were held to the pressure of designing an event that would match or exceed what Paris had achieved with their World’s Fair in 1889, which gave visitor’s the majestic Eiffel Tower. Our Fair would match that with beauty of the ‘White City’ along the Midway Plaisance with it’s destination exhibits, but the biggest draw was the world’s first Ferris Wheel.
Yeah, it may seem dated when we jet-speed roller coasters at Six Flags Greet America, but for it’s time it was romantic adventure to see the city from that angle before the age of the skyscraper. This wonderfully crafted video from the must-follow Youtube channel Defunctland looks into how the Wheel came to be in the challenging circumstances of the 1893 ‘Columbian Exposition’ and how it showed off America’s quest for amusement.
Now if Defunctland is going to start covering amusement park things gone by, can we get deep dive into Melrose Park’s KIddie Land? Chicago Tribune’s Rick Kogan in July wrote a love letter to local amusement parks of the past, it’s a great read.
Speaking of enjoying things in the past, Sundays 10a-12pm 101WKQX gives you ALT_Backspace, two hours of classic alternative music from the 80’s, 90’s,and 00’s. One person who is very excited about is this old man from the 1990’s.
There has been much controversy about DC Comics inspired film ‘Joker’ which opened in theaters on Thursday night, but that didn’t stop it from raking in millions already. So is it a great movie? Does Joaquin Phoenix’s performance in this brooding origin story of the ‘clown prince of crime’ following beloved past performances of the role by Jack Nicholson, Mark Hamil, and Jack Nicholson? Here are some reputable reviews from the best Youtuber movie channels who seemingly are digging the movie directed by Todd Phillips.
If you have seen the movie, let us know what you think on social media.
