Chicago: Coldest temps since the polar vortex this week

Well we got a light winter for the most part so far, so when it gets ugly we can’t say we were not surprised right? This Wednesday into Thursday, the greater Chicago area is expected to get blasted with windy snow and coldest temps since last year’s dreaded polar vortex. Wednesday will wet snow falling throughout the night into Thursday morning with temps as low as mid-upper teens by evening, then subzero most areas overnight. The negative numbered cold continues into Friday.

Let’s hope it doesn’t get as bad as last year. Here is a reminder.

Let’s just hope we get boil pots of water and turn them into mist as is the tradition.

MLB could make massive changes to the playoffs

ESPN is reporting today some literal game-changing possibilities in Major League Baseball with potential expansion of teams getting into the playoffs going from 10 to 14 and more drastic moves. It’s worth noting these moves are not confirmed, and the player’s association would have to agree to the terms. Could this help our White Sox and Cubs make it into the post-season?

If this new scnario was to play out  three division winners and four wild-card teams would make the postseason starting in 2022. The team with the best record in the league would get a bye into the division series. The two remaining division winners and the wild-card team with the best record of the four would each host all games of a best-of-three series in the opening round.

ESPN also reported these additional changes which would involve certain voting on who their playoff opponent would be:

  • The division winner with the second-best record would select its wild-card opponent from the three wild-card winners not hosting a series.
  • The division winner with the worst record would then choose its opponent from the remaining two wild-card teams.
  • The final matchup would pit the wild-card winner with the best record against the wild-card team not yet chosen.
  • The teams chosen in this situation would be announced on live TV on the final Sunday of the regular season.

Sports insiders feel these changes are being proposed to keep lower ranking teams from purposely ‘tanking’ to get draft picks the following season, increase fan interest in more teams, and hopefully bring up attendance in late stages of the season.

Go see Foosballers TONIGHT at the Music Box

Did you know that there is an underground professional foosball league?

Did you know that it’s one of the most electric sports to watch EVER!

Well Chicago’s own, Joe Heslinga, explores the ever-entertaining world of table soccer in his new film Foosballers

There is a pre-screening TONIGHT (02/11/2020) at the music box at 7 pm sharp with a special post-film Q&A with Director Joe Heslinga and Documentary Subject and World Champion Foosball Player Tony Spredeman.

Tickets are $12 and can be purchased on the Music Box’s website

Foosballers will also be released to the public this Thursday, Feb. 13 on Itunes.

Brian, Ali, and Justin were lucky enough to sit down and talk to Heslinga and Spredeman about the film

No rough housing inside!

The highlight of a dogs life is… well every time they get to be around their human.

Extra points if their human wants to play!

But sometimes things get out of control.

Look at how sad he got when he smashed the table 🙁 it’s ok buddy!

Why do they have a camera always recording their living room?

Also, totally their fault for having a glass table.

Backstreet’s back ALRIGHT!

Everyone is talking about Rage coming to Chicago this summer, but there might be an even bigger reunion tour headed our way.

OOOOOOWWWWEEEEEEEE!

The Backstreet boys are back baby!

Get your wallets ready because tickets go on sale this Friday (2/14).

GET EXCITED!!!

Are mandatory gas attendants coming to Chicago?

Law makers have proposed a bill that would make it so you can no longer pump your own gas next year.

That’s right, like some other states, Illinois is thinking about bringing back gas station attendants.

There are both pros and cons about this situation

Pros

  • More jobs for Chicago
  • No more filling up gas in the winter
  • feel like a fancy pants getting someone else to pump your gas

Cons

  • Let me pump my own damn gas
  • Now we have to tip another person!
  • What if there’s only one person and two cars… I don’t want to wait!
  • LET ME PUMP MY OWN DAMN GAS IT’S MY RIGHT

If the bill is put into action, gas attendants could be mandatory as early as next year.

Girl Scouts selling cookies at Uptown pot dispensary

The annual barrage of cookie goodness is on with the Girl Scouts but this year with legal recreational weed on sale at pot dispensaries, they have found a new market: the munchies. Yes, you can add this to your edibles for the day.

They were set up outside of Dispensary 33 in Uptown, all bundled up for those looking to bud up, and for their efforts they became a hit with customers and on social media with many people applauding their on-point snack delivery.

Now let the debate begin about what’s the best Girl Scout cookie.

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE is coming to Chicago

Just announced! RATM plays the United Center on May 19 and Alpine on July 10 as part of a seven-month reunion tour!

Details here.

Tickets will be sold through the band’s website; details to come.

We got a modern day Annie Oakley among us.

He can smoke, dance, and wave a gun around at the same time.

Did you see how fast mom busts in to whoop his ass!?!

That was lightning speed; she’s faster than most wifi!

Put your guns away on the timeline boys and girls!!

Dog demands water!

This is Zeus.

His owners were tired of convincing people that he is a demanding boy.

GET MY MANS SOME WATER PLEASE!!!

Some would call this Husky a drama queen.

I personally think he just isn’t afraid to say what he wants.

13/10 great job Zeus!

This water skiing squirrel is breaking the law!

Twiggy the water skiing squirrel might be the GOAT of water sports.

But that doesn’t stop Johnny Law from trying to stop him from performing.

She was skiing at the Vancouver boat show, entertaining the masses with her amazing skills and promoting water safety.

Here’s the thing though, it’s been illegal for squirrels to water ski in Vancouver for over 40 years!

It sounds weird but it is true.

Many other animals are allowed to, including other rodents like hamsters and Guinea pigs, but not Squirrels.

So now Twiggy is on the run.

I say we welcome her with open arms in Chicago as a safe haven.

LET TWIGGY SKI IT’S HE PASSION!!!

Are you ready for more football? XFL debuts this weekend

Check out the Pat McAfee Show podcast here with Westwood One, click here

Football is not over even though the Super Bowl is in the books. This weekend ESPN, FOX, and ABC all broadcasted games from the revived alternative in pro football, XFL which is heavily funded by WWE Chairman Vince McMahon’s new separate company Alpha Entertainment, The debut games garnered a lot of attention from viewers yesterday with four of the top ten trending topics on Twitter being related to the games that featured the Los Angeles Wildcats, Houston Roughnecks, Seattle Dragons, and D.C. Defenders. Overall the response online was positive with football fans feeling it delivered on it’s promise of being something different but legit.

So it will last longer than the last time we saw the XFL in 2001 when it lasted just one season amid bad reception from sports media analysts and more? Only time will tell. Unfortunately the new XFL does not have a Chicago team this time around. Sorry Enforcer fans, maybe sometime in the future right?

The new league seems streamlined with a fresh takes on rules and presentation on the sport with changes to the kickoff, extra points, and much more. Here are the highlights of the two first games.

Stream new Green Day album ‘Father of All…’

Green Day premiered their new album ON AIR on 101WKQX this past Thursday right before the world got to stream it at midnight, so here it is in all of the jump up and down power-pop-in-your-face hook-you-in-the-mouth glory.  At a brisk 26 minutes, it flies by with fun smart-ass butt-moving groove while retaining the Oakland trio still delivering all of the goods with some vibes that will remind you of some influences outside of their expectant radar like Arctic Monkeys, 80’s new wave, and even a sample of fellow Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Famer Joan Jett. The album dropped this past Friday. It’s available on all major streaming platforms including YouTube where you can stream it above.

While you are here, check out our exclusive deep-diving ‘press conference’ with Billie Joe, MIke, and Tre prior to the last time they thrilled thousands at Wrigley Field.

Netflix just made a really cool change

Netflix is introducing a new change for those of that don’t enjoy getting caught off-guard by unnecessary blast of noise. The Verge reported this week that the streaming service will soon let you turn off the ‘auto play’ feature that springs previews of shows and movies as you scroll over them with your remote. It’s odd how some of the near endless options on Netflix have trailer springing on while you are shifting through the menus, and then others don’t. This new change seeks to get rid of the nuisance while we are doing a binge on shows about British cupcakes and true crime documentaries.
