90 day fiance never fails to entertain

Big Ed, a 54-year-old who just wants to be loved, found the perfect woman for him.

She just lives in a different country… and has never actually met him.

Oh, and he also puts mayo in his hair.

I mean, I guess his hair looks nice. Right?

Either way, it all came down to their big meeting in the Philippines.

Now that’s what I call love at first sight.

No other motives at all.

Congrats to the happy couple!

Big Ed and Rose 4-ever <3

Try not to flinch at this

Hey, look out!

Life really comes at you fast. You always got to be ready. Trust no one, NOT EVEN YOURSELF!!!

It’s ok, everyone is safe in the car.

We think… well who would’ve taken the video right!?!

Governor Pritzker orders all sit-down service at bars and restaurants to cease.

Governor J.B. Pritzker has ordered the closure of all bars and restaurants effective at the end of business tomorrow [3.16.20].  From the Chicago Sun-Times:

“We are working with restaurant owners and food delivery services across the state to see if restaurants can safely keep their kitchens open, so the restaurants can continue food delivery to people at their homes,” Pritzker said at a news conference Sunday at the Thompson Center in the Loop.

“The time for persuasion and public appeals is over. The time for action is here. This is not a joke. No one is immune to this, and you have an obligation to act in the best interests of all the people of this state.”

Trailer for the Beastie Boys “live documentary experience” is here.

It was supposed to be debuted at SXSW, so instead….the Beastie Boys documentary trailer made its first appearance online this weekend.

The Spike Jonez documentary will chronicles the lives and times of Ad-Rock, Mike D, and MCA, all centered around a live storytelling show that the surviving guys put on in Brooklyn last year.  The trailer promises three big areas that will be discussed:

  • How the Beastie Boys started as “mediocre rappers,” then suddenly exploded into a worldwide phenomenon.
  • The burnout the guys faced after becoming the “party bros” the parodied.
  • Why the late Adam Yauch was “the driving force” behind the group.

This look different and incredibly dope….I, for one, cannot wait to stream this starting April 24th on Apple+TV.  — [e.k.]

YungBlud streaming a special free show on March 16th

Well we can’t go to a concert with everything shutting down and shutting us in with COVID-19, so our alternative music community was bound to prevail in these trying times. Enter UK darling YungBlud who will present “Shit’s Weird Keep Calm and Carry On” show is taking place on March 16 at 9 AM CST on YouTube. In an announcement video, YungBlud promised Bella Thorne, Machine Gun Kelly, and a cooking demonstration from adorable music weirdo Oliver Tree on the special live stream. Save this link so you don’t forget it.

YungBlud may be the coolest ‘rockstar’ personality to ever grace the Lounge. Here is in a 2018 session with his leg in a cast and so many stories to share.

5 must-see YouTube channels to binge on right now

You can spend hours digging through Netflix for big budget blockbusters while most of us stay in from work and school, but you could also spend a lot of time going into these odd, entertaining, and made-for-alternative music people channels on YouTube. Here are my five favorite channels right now on the Tubes. And while you are at it, subscribe to our channel to watch all the cool stuff we got recorded in the Lounge.

This may be my favorite channel that covers music. Does it review music? No, it goes into how music (mostly alternative bands you hear on 101WKQX) have shaped culture and the below-surface actions it took to get there. They are so well researched and written, it’s almost like a really engaging Rolling Stone article come to life in a video.

Waveywebsurf

For those of you on the older side of the millennial generations, you may remember the first wave of modern meme culture from viral videos of news bloopers to YouTube personalities who filled your Facebook feed when Obama was in office. Wavy has reach backed into this not-too-long-ago nostalgia for ‘deep dives’ into these big internet things like that video of the ‘grape lady’ falling down and yelling for 30 seconds. His best videos are his recent videos of Chicago comedian Robert Hines and his classic ‘Toby Jones’ collaborations with sketch comedy group B.D.E.C.

Defunctland

Disney has created a huge chunk of our modern culture with their films and TV shows. That has made their theme parks into this dream world for fans, but there is a story behind every attraction, every ride, and beyond. Defunctland creates these 12-20 minute documentaries that show memories like Space Mountain were created for generations to enjoy. You also learn about parts of the theme parks that don’t exist anymore and how they faded out.

Red Letter Media

Watching bad movies and making fun of them is a renewed genre online, thanks to Wisconsin based movie nerds Red Letter Media. They first came to prominence with their in-charcter ‘Mr. Plinkett’ reviews of the Star Wars films which garnered millions of view but the group has evolved with new sketch comedy / movie review content including the must-see ‘Best of the Worst’ which sees the group endure some hilarious bad movies in panel discussion.  Some of these despicable VHS tapes are so bad, they are ‘good’. This episode covering an 80’s instructional video ‘Defending Yourself Against Edged Weapons’ is a dark humor gut-busting funny good time.

Whang!

When he’s not playing guitar, Justin Whang is digging to the odd sub cultures of gaming, anime, memes, and generally weird tales online with these breakdown videos that features a good level of sarcasm and wit. His look into legendary Chicago based story about the Max Hedroom incident which interrupted an Sunday news broadcast on WGN is going to scare you to your toes.

Senators pass resolution naming their Florida State national basketball champions.

A graduate of Florida State University — who probably like most Americans, was bummed his team wasn’t going to play in the big tournament this year — got the state’s senate to pass a resolution naming the Seminoles the 2020 NCAA National Champions.

While it is tempting to use this loophole to claim another Stanley Cup for Chicago —- VERY TEMPTING — I urge our politician’s to continue to tend the important business at hand. 😉  — [eric]

Stream new song from the Killers ‘Caution’

We got some good news this week amid all the bad news, it’s a new song from the KIllers. The rousing song called ‘Cautin’ which has Brandon Flowers and company hitting that perfect vibe where you can picture someone self-reflecting on top of a mountain or something scenic. The song features guitar contributions from former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham. It’s the first single from their upcoming album  Imploding the Mirage’ due out May 29th.

The Killers have announced a world tour, bringing them to the United Center on September 23rd.

Kevin Love donates $100 K

With the NBA suspending its season, thousands of people will be out of work. And no one knows when they will be able to return to their job.

Kevin Love of the Cleveland Cavilers has decided to step up and donate $100 K of his own money to help make sure that everyone, not just the players and coaching staff, can still get an income during the suspension.

Everyone reacts differently to stressful situations. And the fear and anxiety resulting from the recent outbreak of COVID-19 can be extremely overwhelming. Through the game of basketball, we’ve been able to address major issues and stand together as a progressive league that cares about the players, the fans, and the communities where we work. I’m concerned about the level of anxiety that everyone is feeling and that is why I’m committing $100,000 through the @KevinLoveFund in support of the @Cavs arena and support staff that had a sudden life shift due to the suspension of the NBA season. I hope that during this time of crisis, others will join me in supporting our communities. Pandemics are not just a medical phenomenon. They affect individuals and society on so many levels, with stigma and xenophobia being just two aspects of the impact of a pandemic outbreak. It’s important to know that those with a mental illness may be vulnerable to the effects of widespread panic and threat. Be kind to one another. Be understanding of their fears, regardless if you don’t feel the same. Be safe and make informed decisions during this time. And I encourage everyone to take care of themselves and to reach out to others in need — whether that means supporting your local charities that are canceling events, or checking in on your colleagues and family.

And Love isn’t the only one in the NBA stepping up to the plate to make sure no one goes without pay.

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has said that he has already started working on a solution to continue payroll for all Mavericks employees.

It is nice to see that the players and owners of the NBA really do appreciate everyone who helps put together a professional basketball game.

All the way from the owner down to the seat ushers deserve to get paid during the pandemic.

What should Aon name Willis (Sears) Tower?

Chicago! This is our opportunity to do something special.

Everyone was furious when the Sears Tower was renamed to the Willis Tower. In fact, most people still refuse to call it the ‘W’ word.

But the tower has been purchased once again, which means a name change is inevitable.

Here’s the elephant in the room, they obviously can’t name it the Sears Tower again… So what should they name it?

Let us know what you think on our Facebook or Twitter!

My vote is for Tower McTowerface.
