Former homeless family gives back during pandemic

If you’ve ever thought about giving back to your community, then you can take away a good lesson from this awesome family from Oklahoma City.

They were once homeless, but they found their way out, now they help others who struggle without a home to call their own.

So what are you waiting for! Get out there and help a cause that means something to you!

This family is just pure amazing!

Did you know that there are people out there with a sneeze fetish?

There is someone out there for everyone, apparently for these people it’s specifically someone with the sniffles!

You know what… whatever gets you out of bed in the morning am I right!

Sneeze away people!

Flint Michigan Sheriff puts down baton and joins protestors

This may be the best response any police officer has had with protestors this weekend.

A sheriff in Flint Michigan addressed protestors and eventually began marching with them.

What a great response!!

Shout out to that sheriff!

People are asking what kind of training I have done in jeans for the #BlueJeanMile. The answer is simple…all-out 100m sprints. Why? They build confidence and I don’t feel like doing anything else!⁣ ⁣ Thank you all so much for your support so far. I really can’t say it enough. This has been an incredible few weeks. The generosity and kindness you all have shown has raised over $10,000 for NAMI!! You have given support and raised awareness for so many who are suffering from mental illness and their caretakers. Take some time to show appreciation for yourself. You rock! ⁣ ⁣ Now I’ll hold up my end of the bargain!! Remember to tune in to my Instagram live on May 30 at 6 PM EST. It’s gonna be a blast ✈️ #MentalHealthMonth #MentalHealthMatters

A post shared by Johnny “The Jet” Gregorek (@johnny.gregorek) on

Gregorek broadcast the run to over 1,800 people via Instagram Live and raised $31,000 for the National Alliance on Mental Illness after losing his brother last year, who struggles with mental illness.

He finished the mile in 4:06.25, which is faster than most people in regular running clothes, so, props dude.

An absolutely amazing record to hold!

Recap of weekend’s George Floyd protests in Chicago

Protests sparked around the country in response to the George Flyod killing by police in Minneapolis last week.

Here is what happened in Chicago.

Thanks to our friends over at WGN for all of the amazing coverage of this weekends occurrences.

More to come as more information comes in.

Chicago business owner not upset that his store was burnt down during protests

The historic Central Camera photography store was burnt down during this weekends protests, but the owner is not upset over the building being burnt, rather, he is upset at what led to these protests.

Central Camera is a Chicago institution, and has been in business since 1899, sadly it was set ablaze this weekend during the protests in response to the death of George Floyd.

Don Flesch, the third generation owner of the store, is not upset that his business burnt down. He is upset over why these protests started, but he was happy no one was hurt in the store and that only inventory and a building was lost.

Flesch plans to rebuild and make the store better than ever after all is said and done.

The original store may be gone, but the historic Chicago business will continue to go on.

“Level Of Concern” video made on 1980s Macs is lo-fi, low-key 🔥

I’ve always looked at old, outdated computers as glorified doorstops.  Someone just made that thought invalid.

His name is Pinot W. Ichwandardi — and leave it to an artist to take two Apple computers from the 1980s & make a Twenty One Pilots visual masterstroke.  This lyric video for “Level Of Concern” just transported me back to my days of henpecking away during typing class in junior high school — and now I feel like Tyler and Josh owe me a pizza boat.

Following the video, you can read a Twitter thread from the creator about he and his family made it.  Floppy disks forever. 🖖 — [eric]

Watch Dropkick Murphys play Fenway Park

Dropkick Murphys have been bleeding Boston red for decades now, so who better…excuse me BETTAH to play an empty Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox with a special remote guest cameo from the Boss, Bruce Springsteen. You can watch the entire show here which is just spectacle as the boys take up the whole diamond with the  drums set up on second base. It’s quite the visual thrill to see 73,000 plus watching the show live at one point. It was really charming as well to see ‘SNL’ alum Rachel Dratch jump in with some comedy during a break between songs.

The Murphs were the first to jump into the special streaming shows during quarantine when they converted their annual hometown show into a streaming event for charity and this memorable gig is no different with the Boston Resiliency Fund, Habitat for Humanity, and Feeding America all tied in. You can donate at donate.dropkickmuprhys.com.

If you are looking for more great concerts to binge on, we got a LOT of quarantine concerts we’ve been streaming from the LOUNGE. Watch more here on 101WKQX.COM.

NBA could tip off July 31

The NBA could tip off again July 31, according to commissioner Adam Silver.

The news came out of a league board of governors virtual meeting today. A formal announcement is expected soon. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports most owners expect the announcement to come within the next week.

It’s still unclear what this will all look like, when play resumes. There’s a chance the NBA will jump straight to modified postseason playoffs.
