Florida may have COVID-19 cases surging upward  but Disney World  is reopening after being closed for months. The reopening was announced weeks ago before the recent surge with the theme park giant putting in face masks policies, thousands of hand sanitizer stations, limited capacity, reservations for guests to attend, and more regulations to ensure safety.

WDW News Today did a live stream from the park today so you can see raw footage of how the regulations are implemented for guests in real time.

Outdoor live concerts return in England

The UK has been able to wrangle their COVID-19 issues to the point where they currently have cases under 30,000 and according to Consequences of Sound, the country is starting to experiment with socially distant outdoor concerts and entertainment this weekend. Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden made the following announcement:

“Of course we won’t see crowds flooding into their venues, but from July 11 our theatres, operas, dance and music shows can start putting on outdoor performances to socially distant audiences. That means theatregoers can experience a live play for the first time in months at places like the stunning Minack Theatre in Cornwall, and music lovers can attend Glyndebourne this summer.”

This is stage three of a “five-stage roadmap” to full-on concerts with indoor venues in England, so this time coming up can be seen as an opportunity to see how the country’s live entertainment industry responds to the new regulations.

This government initiative is ahead of the opening of the first ever concert venue built specifically with social distance in mind. You can see design images of that venue here.

“The Empire Strikes Back” tops box office again, 40 years after initial release.

The Empire Strikes Back has topped the box office for the first time since its reissue in 1997 and 40 years after the Star Wars movie was originally released.

2020.  What a time to be alive. (ಠ_ಠ)

As Deadline reports, a bunch of old school movies are pulling in about a half million dollars on a given weekend.  And when we say classics, we mean GhostbustersJaws…& Jurrasic Park, among others.

Speaking of going old school, the popularity of drive-ins has returned as the most feasible way to enjoy the cinema right now.  If you’re up for a movie in Chicago, the South Lot at Soldier Field has been turned into a makeshift theater — show times and ticket information can be found here.  — [eric]

Big TV shakeups with Batman and Batwoman

Big bat news hit the web this week and it will change what you see on your screens in the future.

Javicia Leslie has been named the new lead actress on the CW’s ‘Batwoman’ series taking on the cape and cowl left by Ruby Rose, who endorsed the move for Season 2 of the CW series. Access is reporting the character will not be the same as Rose’s incarnation and will display some serious skills in the costume.

That is not the only Batman universe news coming to the streaming screens of comic book fans, as this week also brought the news that film maker Matt Reeves is heading up development of a new series for HBO Max that focuses on the Gotham City Police Department. This is a clever spin-off of the upcoming feature film ‘the Batman’ and the reported working title is ‘Gotamn Central’. Producer Terrence Winter who has previously worked on HBO’s ‘Boardwalk Empire’ will also work on the series.

Beyond the Trailers looks into all of the current TV adaptions of Batman, how the comic book series ‘Gotman Central’ is a solid source material, and much more. This video also breaks down how Warner Brothers is implementing a new unique strategy for it’s DC Cinematic Universe which some genre fans have been quite critical of for the past few years.
