Potholes are the worst.
But what if there was a truck that could fix them in lets say 10 minutes.
Well there isn’t one. But there is one that can do it in 5 minutes!
Chicago! Get on this!!!

Don’t worry! No injuries were suffered and the plane emergency is now under investigation.

Are themed caskets the new thing in the funeral world?
It might be the case because a WWII veteran will be given his final request of a Juicy Fruit themed casket.
The vet was known for handing out the fruity gum to everyone wherever he went.
So some family and friends reached out to Wrigley, and with a little pressure from the community they finally decided to help make this final wish come true.
Now the real question here is… What would you want your casket to be themed??
They’re chicken nuggets! There is no such thing as a boneless chicken wing!
This guy gets it.
This needs to go all the way to the Supreme Court!
With both the White Sox and the Cubs doing quite well in this shortened MLB season, the rumblings on social media have been stirring: Crosstown World Series? Could our city handle that? Would you even be able to tolerate the trash talk on your Facebook feed? It may not happen, but just imagine it. Yeah, it would be wild.
This would be a case of history repeating itself. The 1906 World Series saw the Cubs face the White Sox as a heavily favored team who had the best regular-seasons of any team in baseball history, only to be lost to the Sox in six games. This Wikipedia entry breaks down each game.
Stark Raving Sports did a fantastic video breaking down all the star players and how the series had an effect on a very different Second City from the past.
This long runnning eatery was a downtown Chicago staple and it will soon be no more. In my early years at Columbia College in the South Loop, going to Ronnie’s was a way knowing you were for sure downtown. It was always cozy and inviting spot for working-class folks. It was not a place for the upper class, it was for everyone hustling somewhere to take a load off and eat something good. CBS Chicago reported it today, and no official reason has been given for the closure.
2020, unfortunately, is a year that’s going to take more than a few beloved businesses around our area due to financial hardships and the constant haunting of COVID-19. Let’s get through it together.
A big beefy dinner or a breakfast was always on the menu.’Chicago’s Best’ documented their meaty good meals.

Peaches (and ninjas) for free…
Pumpkin-spice shoes. It’s a real thing. The good news is, they don’t TASTE like pumpkin-spice. (At least, I think they don’t. I didn’t lick in the sole).
Welcome back to another fall season. Where EVERYTHING must be pumpkin, or else. Now, I’m no marketing guru but….I would think differentiating yourself from the pack would be a good thing. There are soooo many more options for fall flavors. Apple, for one. That’s not even a hard sell. Just pump out some sort of delicious apple-thingy — and boom, Q4 budget achieved.
In 2020, I implore you try something different. Variety is the spice of life, after all. But if you are still down for the pumpkin, here’s the trendiest 2020 products. — [eric]

Obviously this is not a traditional school year for a lot of kids with COVID-19. Many are returning to e-learning at home while in some other parts of Illinois they are going back to the classroom with regulations but something we did not expect is keeping kids from getting to school in Piatt County: Buffalos.
A herd of buffalo got on the loose near Monticello this week and diverted several school buses from getting students to class. Check out the report from WAND.

It seems like we were supposed to have jetpacks by now but if we got them in wide use, hopefully we would not act like this guy.
Air traffic control operators this week in Los Angeles dealt with calls from pilots in the air, seeing a man flying near them in a jetpack. Yeah, 2020 is already odd as it is, but this is just flying in a different direction. Inside Edition has the entire conversation with pilots who seem pretty annoyed by the entire thing in the video above.
Did you know there is a really good alternative rock band called We Were Promised Jetpacks, who have released some very great post-punk influence sounds that would fit perfectly on a Riot Fest lineup. Here is one of their best songs ‘Quiet Little Voices’.
Production on the upcoming DC Cinematic film ‘The Batman’ has halted production following the unfortunate news Robert Pattinson has contracted COVID-19. It was initially reported yesterday with no acknowledgment of who was actually dealing with the virus. Vanity Fair then broke the news that it was the film’s star. This is the second time the film has been paused in London. Pattinson’s reps have not confirmed the news at this time.
“A member of The Batman production has tested positive for Covid-19,” said Warner Bros. in a statement to the press. “and is isolating in accordance with established protocols. Filming is temporarily paused.”
Pattinson is not the only movie star dealing with COVID, as Dwayne ‘the Rock’ Johnson shared on social media this week that his family and himself had dealt with the virus.
ComingSoon has a full rundown of the whole film and it’s blockbuster cast, read more on that here.
At the DC Fandome event a few weeks ago, this very dark gritty trailer for the upcoming film debuted. It is culled together for what director Matt Reeves said was just 25% of the film, leaving much work to be done on the superhero epic. The trailer really hit with alternative music fans due to the on-point use of the Nirvana’s morose song ‘Soming in the Way’. Learn more about that song and why it works so well for this story here.
Late great alternative singers Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington were trending today on Twitter. The reason may not be exactly clear, but it’s worth remembering the sad time in which we lost them in 2017. Cornell would pass in May 2017 shortly after a show with Soundgarden in Detroit. Bennington would pass in July of the same year, just days before Linkin Park was scheduled to perform a session in the Lounge with 101WKQX. As we deal with the current stress and draining mental health challenges of our current times. we can look back at our collective alternative community coming together to remember these two generational voices.
If you or anyone you know is dealing with mental health issuess and thoughts of suicide, please know there is ALWAYS help just a phone call with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.
Here are some special performances from the time three years ago along special moments shared on stage between Bennington and Cornell.
Cornell would sadly pass in May 2017, with LP just rolling out a new album with a media tour they opted to use the platform of ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ to perform the appropriate tone of ‘One More Light’, instead of playing their active single at the time.
From this fan-filmed video from 2008 in North Carolina on the Projekt Revolution tour, you can see Cornell join Bennington and LInkin Park for a performance of ‘Crawling’. It’s something very special to hear their voices blend, and the crowd reaction when Cornell appears is something special.
On the same tour, Cornell and Bennington continued to duet together with Chester filling Eddie Vedder’s shoes on the emotive classic ‘Hunger Strike’.
The week that Cornell died, Soundgarden was supposed to be one of the headliners of the Rock on the Range festival in Columbus, Ohio. Many of the acts performing on the fest paid tribute to the legendary Seattle singer including the Pretty Reckless who covered ‘Like A Stone’, Corey Taylor performing ‘Hunger Strike’, and Live doing ‘I am the Highway’.
Linkin Park with many of their friends in the music world gathered at a sold-out Hollywood Bowl in October 2017. to honor Chester’s memory and life. The live show was broadcast live, and it was quite the moving evening, to say the least. You can watch the entire 3-hour show here.
David Blaine has done wilder and wilder stunts that challenge human limits from being underwater for extended periods, remained in ice for lengthy periods of time, and other spectacles but this live stream running now is something else. In a new challenge inspired by the modern Disney animated classic, Blaine is floating currently over 22,000 feet and counting with a crew of professionals working with him to help him break an astonishing record. If you have a fear of heights, this will make your blood boil.
At some point, he was on a teleconference with his daughter while he floated so far above the Earth. It was quite the production with helicopters covering the entire spectacle from different angles in real-time, it was beyond thrilling and relieving to see Blaine descent safely via by parachute from over 24,000 feet with his chute being pulled around 5,000 feet.
Jerry Bryant is the host and founder of JBTV, America’s longest running music television show right out of downtown Chicago for going on 36 years. He also happens to be one of my favorite people on the planet. The guy lives and breathes for music and supporting artists. He beat stage 4 colorectal cancer and now faces another monumental task – JBTV may no longer have a home if he doesn’t get some help, and fast. Covid hit JBTV hard, and he lost the television studio on West Grand Avenue, since then he has been filming the show out of his apartment. But due to an extreme lack of income related to Covid, is now facing eviction.

It’s September in a crappy year with a lot of depressing things happening to thousands of people every day, so somewhere today you will see someone reference the years-old joke about Green Day’s emotional classic ‘Wake Me Up When September’ ends. So let’s try to use more part of our collective brains than just the part that wants to see memes, to dig into the origins of the song and it’s profound impact.
The 4:19 track was one of the smash hit singles off Green Day’s wildly successful 2003 concept album ‘American Idiot’ which sold millions and became one of the biggest alternative releases of the 2000s. The song itself peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and was a top ten song in multiple countries. Though the story of ‘American Idiot’ is quite clear to fans and has been adapted into a Broadway musical, ‘Wake Me Up’ is viewed as a song that has no direct connection to the album’s concept.
In the first few years after its release, the song has been seen as a bonding point for the survivors of Hurricane Katrina and the terror attacks of September 11th. In recent years, the song has been adopted by meme culture to be a comedic complaint about the end of summer and other saddening topics.
So what is the actual inspiration for the song? The crowd-sourced lyrical web portal Genius has culled together some info detailing that the song depicts singer Billy Joe Armstrong dealing with the death of his father from cancer on September 1, 1982 at the age of 10. The title of the song allegedly refers to a conversation that a young Armstrong had with his mother when in his room after his father’s funeral. That is a lasting experience for anyone who has lost someone they love, let alone at such an impressionable age. Armstrong though has said in recent years, the song still brings up memories of his father but that it’s also has a newer celebratory tone to it.
September already? Woof. #wakemeupwhenseptemberends

In April,2020. Armstrong performed the song on the Global Citizen ‘Together At Home’ charity broadcast to organize resources against COVID-19. Yes, April this year feels like it was years ago.
True crime has exploded as a genre of interest in the past few years from ‘Making a Murderer’ on Netflix to huge podcasts like ‘the Syndicate’. We all want to know the who-done-it’s and how they did it. They are compelling stories of tragedy and one band who has been able to tell some of those stories is the Killers.
Middle 8 created this great short documentary video that explores the ‘murder trilogy’ that plays out over several songs on their 2004 breakout album ‘Hot Fuss’ with the final piece yet to be released years later on their ‘Sawdust’ collection. “The murder of a woman named Jennifer at the hands of her ex-boyfriend. A classic tale of a romance gone bad.” says the channel in the video description.
A few months ago, 101WKQX’s Jon Manley spoke with Brandon Flowers of the Killers about their new music, being creative in quarantine, and much more.
