It took eight years and an extra $200 million, but the Jane Byrne Interchange is nearly complete

Initially scheduled to take five years and cost $535 million, we are eight years and $793 million deep into construction on the Jane Byrd Interchange, but things are finally coming to an end. According to officials, all four lanes on the interchange are now open. New changes include two northbound Kennedy entrance ramps from Adams to Jackson Streets, as well as wider ramps from eastbound I-290 onto the Kennedy and Dan Ryan Expressway. Only two construction projects are still outstanding.

Optimists claim that this construction will bring a 50% reduction in motorist delays.

10 new laws are coming to Illinois in 2023

Our friends at NBC 5 have rounded up 10 new laws that are taking place at the start of the new year. These are changes to expect on January 1, 2023.

End of Cash Bail

Under the provisions of the bill, as passed by the General Assembly, the state will allow judges to determine whether individuals accused of a specific set of felonies and violent misdemeanors pose a risk to another individual, or to the community at large. Judges will also be asked to determine whether the defendant poses a flight risk if released.

CROWN Act

The Create a Respectful and Open Workplace for Natural Hair Act, also known as the CROWN Act, is an amendment to the Illinois Human Rights Act and aims to further combat discrimination in the state. According to the General Assembly, the bill “provides that ‘race,’ as used in the Employment Article, includes traits historically associated with race, including, but not limited to, hair texture and protective hairstyles such as braids, locks, and twists.”

New Student School Helpline

Passed in May, the Student Confidential Reporting Act, establishes a program where officials from schools, the state and Illinois State Police can receive reports and other information regarding the potential harm or self-harm of students or school employees. The Safe2Help helpline will involve a toll-free telephone number and other means of communication allowing messages and information to be given to operators. Details on the helpline can be found here.

Apprenticeship and Internship Pilot Program

The Act to the Job Training Assistance and Support Services Pilot Program Act will create a five-year pilot program aimed at offering assistance and support services, like transportation help or child care subsidies, to eligible people who may have otherwise struggled to complete an apprenticeship or internship.

Task Force on Missing and Murdered Chicago Women Act

This new law will create a task force that will examine “the systemic causes behind violence that Chicago women and girls experience.” It also will look at “appropriate methods for tracking and collecting data on violence against Chicago women and girls, including data on missing and murdered Chicago women and girls” and will create new policies and practices “that impact violence against Chicago women and girls and the investigation and prosecution of crimes of gender-related violence against Chicago residents.”

Sports License Plate Changes

Under new Illinois Vehicle Code, the Secretary of State will be required to offer those seeking professional sports teams license plates the option to display the logo of the Chicago Sky, Chicago Fire or the Chicago Red Stars. It also removes the option to add the logo of the St. Louis Rams.

Single-Use Plastics

This law “prohibits the procurement and use of single-use plastic disposable foodware at State parks and natural areas.” And state agency or institution of higher education contract prioritizes bids that offer compostable or recyclable foodware.

Illinois’ New State Snake

Under an amendment to the state’s Designation Act, the Eastern Milksnake will become the official snake of the state of Illinois.

New Smoke Detector Rules

Beginning Jan. 1, the state’s Smoke Detector Act will be changed to state that any smoke detectors must have a “self-contained, non-removable, long term battery.” The change was approved in 2017, but did not take effect until Jan. 1, 2023.

Latex Glove Ban Act

Beginning Jan. 1, any food service establishment will be required to ban latex gloves in the preparation and handling of food. It also prohibits such gloves by emergency personnel. Health care workers will be required to ban the gloves after Jan. 1, 2024.

L.A. police office caught having sex on the job over police radio

A rookie deputy is under investigation in Los Angeles over a hot mic picking up her hot action. The audio, which was first reported by TMZ, seems to paint the picture of a woman having sex in her squad car while on duty at Men’s Central Jail.

LASD tells TMZ the agency has launched an internal investigation to find out more about the incident, not to mention whether the man heard on the audio was also a cop and if he, too, was on the clock. Potential punishments could range from a suspension to a firing.

Rockford bar says victims of domestic violence are not welcome

Mulligan’s Pub & Grill in Rockford is under fire after a man was photographed in front of a chalkboard sign that read, “If you have an O/P (order of protection) against your ex – he’s welcome. Your not.” The picture has been spread on social media, notably by the Women’s March Rockford Facebook page, who said, “The owner of Mulligan’s in Rockford made the decision to pose with this sign, which condones domestic violence, and then allegedly post it to the business page. We have no tolerance for anyone or any business that promotes, condones, or makes light of domestic violence. There is no valid argument as to why this is acceptable in any kind of way. We hope that the owner contacts the family peace center and allows them to educate him on the statistics of domestic violence and how it not only impacts individuals, but also entire communities.”

The bar responded on Facebook by saying, “First of all, we are sorry for anyone that is offended… In no way do we advocate domestic violence or minimize O/P’s significance… we apologize for the choice of words and absolutely do not support this statement in any way.”

They went on to claim that the signage was “meant for a specific person” who would visit the bar and had an O/P against a “regular” at the establishment.

Pornhub’s 2022 data is out and Illinois, you have a lot of explaining to do

After months and months of extensive research from the Q101 Morning Crew, we finally have the year-end totals of what people are pleasuring themselves to.

The words “blowjob,” “cosplay” and “trans” saw considerable search growth in 2022, while “transgender” exploded in popularity to become America’s fourth-most-viewed category overall.

“Dirty talk”? What does that even sound like from a Chicagoan, “Ope, gonna have sex with you”?

19th Annual KT’s Kids Toy Drive/Benefit

KT’s Kids is one of my absolute favorite local charities. They raise money for the patients of KidsRehab at Schwab Rehabilitation Hospital, ranging in age from infants to teens. Schwab is in North Lawndale and is one of only two rehabilitation hospitals in Chicago. Most of their kids come from the lowest socioeconomic communities in Chicago.

Love these kids!

The Schwab multidisciplinary KidsRehab staff, including physical, occupational, speech and psychological therapists, help children gain their maximum functional independence after illness or injury. Their medical director, Dr. Lisa Thornton, is one of the world’s preeminent pediatric rehabilitation specialists. The team at Schwab designs a treatment plan tailored to the unique needs of each child. To assure continued progress even after a patient has been discharged, KidsRehab maintains ongoing contact with families and the child to help provide smooth transitions; whether back home, to school, or with ongoing therapy.

The KT’s Kids Holiday Toy Drive and Benefit is their biggest fundraiser of the year. It allows the organization to throw the kids of KidsRehab a holiday party to give them all of the donations they’ve raised each year. And they invite all of the children in the household, not just patients. Every child gets two gifts (one fun, one practical), and each family gets a $20 Target gift card. The children play adaptive games, have pizza and cookies, and most importantly, they meet Santa!

Me with KT and Santa at Schwab for last year’s holiday party

In summer, they support C.A.M.P. Schwab. C.A.M.P. (Children with Adapted Mobility Play) it’s a free summer day camps for kids with disabilities in Cook County. They provide camp for almost forty kids, aged 7–18, who receive services at Schwab, La Rabida or Shriner’s Hospital, including transportation, activities, and a closing picnic to celebrate. C.A.M.P. Schwab brings kids outside to play on their own terms, and that’s hugely empowering. To see some of these children in wheelchairs able to go to the beach thanks to this amazing team is nothing short of inspiring.

Join us at Liars Club this Saturday 12/16/22 starting at 7p. Brand new toys welcomed and encouraged and there will be a raffle for some amazing prizes. Performances by Sweet Figurines, The Bama Lamas, Angela Eve and Eve’s Parlor Burlesque and an all star punk line up with The Nefarious Fat Cats! $20 at the door, 100% of proceeds to benefit KT’s Kids. If you can’t come in person, stream it live at zuma.live or go to www.ktskids.com to make a donation! Hope to see you there! <3 Lauren

This grandmother is charging her family for Christmas dinner

Caroline Duddridge, a mom of five and grandma of six, charges her family for Christmas dinner. She charges the adults $18, the middle children $12, and the THREE-YEAR-OLD GRANDCHILDREN $3. Per the New York Post, she charges the women less because they have families and work part time.

Duddridge started charging for Christmas dinner in 2016, and has since become part of the family’s traditions. If the dinner guests don’t pay on time, they simply get uninvited.

A casino could be coming to downtown Chicago very soon

The Chicago Plan Commission has endorsed a Bally’s casino plan at the corner of Chicago Avenue and Halsted Street, which makes the $1.7 billion dream closer to becoming a reality. Per ABC7, “The Chicago Plan Commission endorsed the Bally’s proposal embraced by Mayor Lori Lightfoot which includes a 500-room hotel, a 3,000-seat theater and event center and a riverwalk. The casino would get 4,000 gaming positions.”

Elmhurst District 205 announces no criminal charges will be made in relation to the York Community High School bullying incident

During a school board meeting on Tuesday night, administrators for Elmhurst District 205 made the announcement that no students will face criminal charges for their actions in an online video that surfaced earlier this week that shows students pushing down a student with Down syndrome in a bathroom brawl. Per CBS News, “The school board said the students involved will be facing significant disciplinary consequences – although they would not specify what that entails, citing confidentiality laws.”

The family of the student with special needs said even though they are choosing not to press charges, they do appreciate the school handling the disciplinary action against the students involved.

Students are calling for a variety of punishments, from expulsion to a school-wide sports suspension.

Woman pleads not guilty to murdering her stepdad after she finds nude photos of herself on his computer

Jade Janks of Encinitas, California has been accused of drugging, strangling, and suffocating her ex-stepfather with a plastic bag on New Years Eve 2020. Janks allegedly found an explicit photo of herself on his computer while she was cleaning out his room. She allegedly confessed to killing the man to her friend Adam Siplyak, according to his testimony on Thursday. She reportedly wanted to make the death look like an overdose because he abused alcohol and drugs, according to officials.

In a series of texts, it was revealed that Janks texted a friend to confirm that he was dead and that she “dosed the hell out of him.” The defense says that the stepfather’s death was self-inflicted, saying that he died of a fatal dose of Ambien.

Janks faces life in prison if convicted.

If you flush your toilet, you are probably disgusting

Hear us out.

According to the almighty science (specifically researchers from the University of Colorado Boulder), flushing a public toilet, or a home toilet with the lid open, is a horrific germ spreader. The scientists concluded, “Blasting aerosols are a health concern since they can spread pathogens like E. coli or noroviruses, contagious viruses that can cause diarrhea and vomiting. Those pathogens can also hang around in a toilet bowl, potentially impacting multiple users.”

Further research showed, “The particles made their way through the air, reached the ceiling of the lab and even spread out into the room. While larger particles can settle quickly, smaller particles tend to float for longer.”

As you go throughout your day, remember that nothing is safe and everything is gross. Sorry.

People are giving Billy Corgan crap for what he does during drum solos

Disgusting video shows York High School students bullying student with Down syndrome

A video has surfaced of students at York High School in Elmhurst bullying a special needs student. In a letter to parents, the school’s superintendent described the events depicted in the video as “an aggressive physical altercation by a student toward another student with a disability, while a group of bystanders watched and laughed.”

This video is disturbing. Viewer discretion is advised.

Students are considering a walk out on Friday to show support for the victim.

Our hearts go out to the student, the family, and anyone else affected in Elmhurst.

Short men are scientifically more likely to be psychopaths

If you have victimized by a so-called short king, you may be entitled to compensation.

A group of Polish scientists have found that short men “may actually be evolutionarily hardwired” to what’s known as the “dark triad” personality traits, associated with more confrontational behavior. Basically, those include psychopathy (lack of empathy and anti-social behaviors), narcissism (self-centredness), and Machiavellianism (manipulation and indifference towards mortality). If you read these traits and someone you know comes to mind, there’s a good chance they are below 5’8″.

If you find yourself being victimized by a short man, remember, it’s not his fault. Science shows that they’re just more damaged than men who are vertically blessed.

Snoop Dogg is being asked to change the name of his ‘Snoop Loopz’ cereal

The Long Beach rapper-turned-media mogul is being thwarted in his attempt to change the cereal game. In August, Mr. Dogg, alongside Master P of the No Limit Soldiers, launched “Snoop Loopz”, a cereal that donates a portion of sales to Snoop’s homeless charity, Future Bosses. Now, for reasons that are unclear at press time, the rapper is being asked to discontinue his cereal. This is likely due to Kellogs and their Fruit Loops brand. In an Instagram video, Snoop noted, “There’s enough room for all of us to be successful…This is bigger than us, we are fighting for the next generation of entrepreneurs. We’re no longer just being consumers, we’re educating the culture building our own brands, and passing down generational wealth.”

The rapper is now soliciting new names for his cereal.

Cardi B wants you to get rid of your butt implants

Cardi B has made the decision to remove 95% of her butt implants. The “WAP” rapper recently took to Instagram to warn her younger fans about the dangers of implants, saying, “In August, I got surgery, and I removed 95% of my biopolymers. … If you don’t know what it is, it’s a– shots,” the 30-year-old said in the video, as reported by People. She first received implants in a New York City basement for $800 by a woman who would later go to prison after a patient died in that setting.

The rapper encouraged her fans to think twice before making this ass-altering decision.

Elon Musk shrivels under the spotlight, booed off stage at Dave Chappelle gig

When Dave Chappelle isn’t taking shots at trans people, the supposed anti-establishment comedian is hanging out with one of the richest men in the world. For all of the grandstanding and posturing that Chappelle has done throughout his career over being against the “elite” and the “industry”, he found immense comfort in ponying up to Musk during his surprise appearance at Chappelle’s San Fransisco show. The comedian was able to fire off a few punch lines while Musk stood there, blubbering and uncomfortable, but that didn’t stop the two from retreating backstage as boos continued to fill the arena.

Musk has taken to his own app to insist that he wasn’t being owned in a series of deleted tweets, claiming that it was “90% boos to 10% cheers” and that “a large fight broke out in the audience right when he took the stage”.

Hopefully this becomes a growing trend whenever Musk finds himself in front of an audience.
