Move over, Boston. Chicago now has the second worst traffic in the world, according to the analytics firm Inrix. They lead the country in congestion, only trailing London on a global scale. The average Chicago driver lost 155 hours sitting in traffic in 2022, up from 104 hours in 2021, and marking the second year in a row that Chicago nabbed the top spot in the United States.
Per WGN, the report points to fewer people choosing public transportation as one of the reasons there’s more congestion. Average weekday ridership on CTA buses and trains in October was only at 56% of the amount it was in 2019, and Metra weekday ridership for November was at 44% of pre-pandemic levels.
Illinois became the ninth state in the country to pass an assault-style weapons ban. On Tuesday, Govenor Pritzker signed the bill and noted, “We got this done for all the victims. The spouses, the children, parents, friends, and loved ones who are no longer with us, and for those who have survived mass shootings.”
Owners of such guns can keep them, but they must register them with state police by Jan 1. Failure to do so is a misdemeanor and then a possible felony for subsequent offenses. The sale of large-capacity ammunition magazines, more than 10 rounds for long guns and 15 rounds for handguns, are banned.
Justin was pacing around his home in Palatine last night when he brought up a very valid question, based off this TikTok that he ran across. Can you return cheese? A woman certainly needs to after she ordered .25 pounds of cheese, but 30 pounds showed up to her door.
Do you think it’s okay to return this cheese? The conversation lives on Facebook!
For those unfamiliar with the Indianapolis night life, there’s currently two restaurants in the news. There’s Jordan’s Fish & Chicken, an upstanding restaurant offering an outstanding selection of both fish and chicken. Then there’s Jordan’s Fish & Chiken Corporation (note the misspelling of “chiken”, a copycat restaurant that has recently come under fire for their horrific kitchen conditions.
The copycat restaurant now has a suspended license, but that hasn’t stopped the owner of Jordan’s Fish & Chicken from sweating over the fact that a single person might confuse their establishments. He said, “I was really upset. I was very mad, very upset — to even think for a second, this specific location has our sign up. Since we see these couple of videos, we take some serious action, we call our attorneys to move forward and do the right things.”
U2 will reimagine and re-record 40 songs from across their catalogue for an album called Songs of Surrender. The collection will be available on St. Patrick’s Day.
You spend eight years of your life with someone and in that time, you start to picture the rest of your life with them. When it comes time to tie the knot, you imagine wearing a ring that you can show off to your friends, family, and even strangers who just want to marvel at the beauty of your symbol of forever. Instead, you get something like this,
According to a recent study, a majority of women care about the size of their ring. According to the study, 80% of women admit to subtly mentioning what they wanted in an engagement ring to their future spouses. On top of that, 7 out of ten future brides actively participated in the ring selection process.
Would you accept this ring if you were in her situation? The conversation lives on Facebook!
A great prank call? Definitely. The greatest prank call of all-time? Quite Possibly. Please enjoy what happens when someone dials two pizza locations at the same time.
The biggest thing to happen to Chicago since the Cubs won the World Series will be happening on today at 10am. Raising Cane’s, the Louisiana-based chicken empire, is making their way downtown and opening a humungous location inside the historic Montgomery Building along North Michigan Avenue near Madison Street. Doors officially open at 10am for an all-day party featuring Cane, the brand’s mascot, the Chicago Bulls DJ (DJ One Change), and giveaways including free Cane’s for a year.
Cane’s is in the midst of a massive Northern expansion that has taken the company away from the South, exclusively. In 2021, they opened a location on Clark & Waveland, down the street from Wrigley Field. Case the Producer encourages everyone to try the downtown location, however, as he’s become very concerned with the long lines at the Wrigleyville location.
More information on the Cane’s grand opening can be found here.
Our friends at WalletHub sat down recently and put together a list of the best states to raise a family in. Despite what cable news naysayers might think, Illinois polled tremendously well in these results. The state finished as the 13th best place to raise a family. Even more surprising, according to WalletHub, is the 11th most affordable state in the country.
Other categories included family fun (4th), education and childcare (25th), and health and safety (29th). Indiana finished 34th overall.
A body discovered Sunday along Chicago’s Lake Michigan shoreline has been identified as that of a Gary, Indiana man, authorities said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the body as John Puza Jr.
Puza’s body was found Sunday afternoon by Chicago police officers who responded to a call to help a marine unit with a body in the water along North DuSable Lake Shore Drive, police said.
His cause of death is unconfirmed at this point.
Oscar Mayer is now hiring its next class of drivers for the humble Wienermobile. The company is looking for 12 graduating college seniors to step up to the sausage and drive the Wienermobile around for a year. Selected applicants will travel more than 200,000 miles across the country.
According to the job posting, being a driver comes with a good salary and benefits, which makes me wonder what the hell I’m doing with my life.

Yes, this was released back in 2017, but maybe your Monday could use a lift. “Sesametage” is the parody recreating the Spike Jonze-directed music video for “Sabotage” with footage from the vintage Sesame Street film Follow That Bird. Enjoy!
Jack White will be making a return appearance on a popular show on The History Channel this week.
For the first time since 2012, the Twisted Xmas veteran will be popping up on American Pickers. Apparently he will be seeking help in restoring an old school truck with a mobile recording studio inside. Very Jack White, if I do say so myself.
The episode will air this Wednesday [January 11th, 2023].
Landmark Development released a video on Sunday providing a virtual tour of what Soldier Field could look like after a complete remodel. We’re not saying they were smoking a little something something while drawing up these blueprints…but come on.
The redevelopment would expand seating to include approximately 61,500-70,000 total seats. It also quadruples the space for food and drink options.
Are you in favor of the Bears staying in the city if they can pull this off, or would you rather have them in Arlington Heights? The conversation lives on Facebook!
$402 million. That’s the price hike that Peoples Gas has circled. Chicago residents could see their monthly natural gas bills rise by an average of $11.83 starting next year if state regulators approve rate hikes totaling $402 million as requested Friday by Peoples Gas. Peoples is asking for permission to raise rates by $195 million while also merging an additional $207 million into delivery costs to offset a $15-per-month surcharge slated to expire at the end of the year.
The commerce commission has the rest of this year to decide on Peoples’ request, but that agency has a full docket of other rate hike requests covering most of the state.
If you purchased an Apple MacBook laptop equipped with a certain kind of keyboard between the years of 2015 and 2019, you may be eligible for a payment of up to $395 as part of a nationwide class-action settlement. According to the lawsuit, Apple sold defective butterfly keyboards. The malfunctions, the lawsuit claims, can result in “characters repeating unexpectedly; letters or characters not appearing; and/or the keys feeling “sticky” or not responding in a consistent manner.”
If you did purchase a MacBook between 2015 and 2019, you might be owed a payout. However, the amount you could receive is based on tiers, and you’ll need specific information in order to correctly file a claim.
