Congrats on the Brit Award, Royal Blood!

Congrats to Royal Blood who won a Brit Award this week for Best British Band. These are like the UK’s version of the Grammy’s so it’s really a big deal for the duo. They beat out some heavy weights including Coldplay, Alt-J and One Direction. Here’s the problem. They only get one statue to share. Proving that they are still a rock band at heart, they say they’ll simply cut it in half.

Global Release Day?

The music industry has been talking about switching to a global release day for years but it actually appears to be moving closer to a reality. Right now, new music is released to the public on different days for different regions across the globe. For instance, albums are released on Mondays in the UK, Tuesdays here in the States and on Fridays in Europe. The word is we may be switching to a global release day on Fridays. Bands like this because it means that they can use their social media more effectively for record release information and promotions. It will also help eliminate piracy. The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry or (IFPI) says the new plan would go into effect this summer.

Net Neutrality Wins!

If you’re one of these people who use this thing called the Internet, you’ll be interested to know that the FCC has made a ruling in favor of Net Neutrality, which basically means that broadband Internet service will be regulated as a utility. The ruling ensures that no content will be blocked and the Internet won’t be divided into Pay To Play Fast Lanes for those who can afford it and Slow Lanes for everyone else. Details won’t be out for a couple of days and the regulations won’t go into effect for a couple of months.
