Rumors have been swirling and churning for months about Smashing Pumpkins getting back together with a reunion of classic members, and band leader Billy Corgan confirmed that “back in contact” with former members of the band in a Facebook video today. Corgan who has been busy being promoted to President of TNA IMPACT Wrestling on POPtv, opened up about the current state of the Pumpkins and what the future holds for the alternative icons. With the recent surprise appearances of former SP guitarist James Iha at shows this year and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin joining the group for last summer’s ‘This is the End’ Tour with Marilyn Manson, the pieces seemed to becoming together for a full fledged of the seminal Pumpkins lineup. Below is excerpt of Corgan clearing the air on the entire situation including his rekindled friendship with former bassist D’Arcy Wretzky.
“There are some things going on, but they’re the type of things I didn’t even think were worth talking about because they’re more private than public. But at the same point, I don’t want people speculating about something that’s got nothing to do with what’s going on. First off, we’re back in contact again, the band. I’ve been in communication with D’arcy for the first time in 16 or 17 years, it’s awesome to have my friend back. So we’re all in communication, which as I said not too long ago, my primary interest in the old band was us having good relationships again.
Not to go into the weeds on the whole thing, but we were a family for a very long time, it just makes life easier to communicate. You can talk about the old days, you can have a laugh, you can see how each other are, you can check in, and sometimes there’s business things that come up where it’s easier to just talk about them than to have to go through a bunch of lawyers and stuff. So maybe that’s fueling some of the rumors. So of course when you get to the point where you’re in communication, and the relationships are good again, and it’s a good vibe, you yourself, and people around you who know what’s going on, start saying: ‘Is the band going to get back together?’ We’re not at that point, and I think that’s a good thing. We’re not rushing to something, we have to repair some things between us, and see what’s out there for us, if those opportunities are even there.”
Corgan stopped by and talked to Brian & Lou a few months back to talk about the Pumpkins acoustic/electric show at the Civic Opera House.
Chicago winters can be challenging with subzero temps, shoveling out your parking spot, and a wind chill that smacks you in the face like you owe it money so it’s worrisome to hear from the Farmers Almanac that our upcoming winter will be the “Return of the Ice Cold Winter”. The folksy forecasters at Almanac has been pretty accurate at predicting weater far in advance for decades, so let’s heed their warning and bundle up now in hoodies now.
To add to this, the National Weather Service has stated they expect 40 percent chance that precipitation levels will be above average levels January through April in a report with Chicagoist.

Wow! An example of the internet ruining someone’s life! A few weeks a go video of a guy decked out in Jordan gear playing in a pickup game took off and it actually made it’s way to the man himself. Jordan saw it and hooked the dude, Jeffery Harrison, up with a couple boxes of gear and a call.

It’s all the rage for fast food spots to have secret menus—see everything “Animal Style” at In-N-Out burger—but we’d never heard about this menu item until recently. Shake Shack apparently has a sandwich that is, sort of, inspired by a Chicago hot dog.
Shake Shack has had a secret menu for a long time, but we’ve always assumed, based on our internet wanderings, that it wasn’t available in their Midwest locations. While Shake Shack’s representative officially didn’t have any comment whatsoever on the secret menu or its availability, a reliable inside source let us know about a few secret menu items available in Chicago. In a closed-door hearing today, a Cook-County Judge ruled that Double Door may stay in their Wicker Park home through the end of the year for now, with a bit of a rent increase.
“Club co-owner Sean Mulroney said appealing the decision is a “possible option.” He expressed optimism Monday about the future of Double Door, one of the anchor clubs during the rise of the Wicker Park music scene in the ’90s. “Double Door is not leaving the city of Chicago. We’re not done. We still hope to work things out in that building,” Mulroney said.”

The O’Donovan Brothers did well for their homeland Ireland in the Rowing competition, but their post-victory interview via satellite with a reporter is a hilarious bit of TV. They mention putting on their “podium pants” and how the background they are standing in front is indeed real, not “super imposed”. They joke having to continuously drug tested and how they’ve been so busy they haven’t had a “bite ta’ eat”. It’s refreshing to see some people so happy with an accomplishment, but laughing off the whole thing.

On Friday, Brendan Dassey who was one of the subjects of the popular Netflix documentary series ‘Making a Murderer’ had his conviction for the 2005 murder of photographer Teresa Halbach overturned by a federal judge in Milwaukee. The ruling was not expected and is widely being considered by many legal experts to be a surprise. The State of Wisconsin has 90 days to decide whether or not to retry Dassey or release him. Now the people behind the much-talked about documentary series are speaking on how this effects the planned second season.
“Today there was a major development for the subjects in our story and this recent news shows the criminal justice system at work. As we have done for the past 10 years, we will continue to document the story as it unfolds, and follow it wherever it may lead,” Making a Murderer‘s directors Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos said in a statement after Friday’s ruling.
