System of a Down confirm new album is coming

system-of-a-down-2015

It’s been 11 years since we heard new music from them but System of a Down are ready to release new music soon, according to a trending story with Consequence of Sound. The yet-to-titled album is currently in the works on the heels of the band announcing a string of European festival dates for 2017, and it will be their follow-up to 2005’s double LP ‘Mezmerize/Hypnotize.’ Early estimates from within the band have the record coming out next year. When talking to UK magazine Kerrang, drummer John Dolmayan said “There’s a tremendous amount of pressure on us, though, because it’s been 11 years – at least 12 by the time it comes out.” On what to expect from the long-anticipated release, Dolmayan stated “We’re not trying to make Toxicity Part II, just because it was by far our biggest album.”

Let the speculation begin as to when SOAD will make their way through the U.S.. The last time we caught them in Chicago was at the 2015 edition of Riot Fest where the California band had to stop their set several times due a muddy crowd with some unfortunate injuries.  Despite not releasing new music since the mid-00’s, the politically-minded band has toured sporadically and keeping up their various side projects.

VIDEO: THERE IS A REAL SNAKE ON A PLANE

screen-shot-2016-11-07-at-1-32-29-pm

This slither piece of creepy move-gone-real video went viral off Twitter today as a fairly large snake slithered it’s way around a flight from Torreón, Mexico on Sunday night. The flight was given a priority landing in Mexico City, where officials secured the animal.

Samuel L. Jackson of course has something to say about this.

While we are on the topic of Snakes on a Plane, why not flashback to the song off the monster movie’s soundtrack which grabbed our hearts like it was a boa constricer crushes it’s prey, Cobra Starship  with Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes and Maja Ivarsson of the Sounds “Bring It!”.

Green Day: ‘Still Breathing’ video gets you through the tough times

screen-shot-2016-11-07-at-11-09-39-am-1478535238-640x427

Green Day hits a evocative tone in the new music video for ‘Still Breathing’ off their latest album ‘Revolution Radio’ which depicts singer Billie Joe Armstrong and several characters seemingly dealing with some unstated challenge. The hunter wanders through the forest, the kid alone in the city, Billie sitting in a car that is not going anywhere, and their all trying to find something in their eyes. You ever see someone on the train or the bus, and you can just tell they are dealing with something quite serious but you are not clear what that is? Well, this song is about that is likely about that challenge to get pass the personal struggles that we all face, whether they be large or small. It doesn’t hurt that there is beautiful sweeping imagery of the seaside here as well.  The song itself is one of the best ‘you will get through this’ anthems that I can recall in recent memory.

Someone Hacked Alexa Into…A Talking Fish

A Fish Called Alexa

So, a developer named Brian Kane must have been really bored one day.  Because he decided to splice the voice-activated assistant Alexa with…a Big Mouth Billy Bass.  Huh.

Look, I’m all for science.  But mad science is no laughing matter, folks.  Think of all the splicing possibilities gone wrong.

I did.  And the movie trailer I made up in my head was terrifying (and really stupid?):

Cubs World Series celebration is the 7th largest gathering in human history

Chicago Cubs celebrated their triumphant World Series victory today with a historic parade and rally that drew a crowd so big, it now ranks as the 7th largest gathering in human history. Yes, this is what happens when you wait 108 years for something this memorable to happen. Fox32 shared the incredible fact which shows the Cubs party drew a mass of humanity estimated to be 5 MILLION PEOPLE. It rivals some of public masses overseen by the Pope. Full story here

Watch the entire World Series Championship rally here.

Dave Chapelle to host ‘SNL’ after the Presidential Election

Comedy titan Dave Chapelle will be in the hot seat as the host of ‘Saturday Night Live’ on November 12th, which will certainly be an interesting episode as it airs after the results of the Presidential Election. This is surprisingly the first time that Chapelle who came to acclaim with ‘the Chapelle Show’ on Comedy Central in the early 2000’s, has hosted the NBC institution. Chapelle after several years away from the limelight and sporadic live shows, returned to full touring as the headliner of the 2013 Oddball Comedy festival. A Tribe Called Quest will be the musical guest on the Chapelle-hosted SNL episode.

This week the star of Marvel’s ‘Dr. Strange’ Benedict Cumberbatch will have hosting duties at 30 Rockefellar Plaza. It’s also expected that American showbiz treasure Alec Baldwin will continue his residency in the role of Republican candidate Donald Trump with ‘SNL’ star Kate McKinnon playing Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

VIDEO: 2 Cub fans get too excited, jump in blue Chicago River

cwbq6oiuoaakzrt

So today the city of Chicago is filled with revelry and celebrations for the Chicago Cubs finally capturing the World Series which prompted a massive parade/rally which drew hundreds of thousands of excited fans downtown, but sometimes people get a little too excited, right? Such is the case with this viral video which has already been re-tweeted thousands of times and it’s been up for only a couple of hours. It features two Cubs fans leaping into the Chicago River which was dyed blue for the special occasion today.

DO NOT DO THIS. Though the Chicago River seems fun to kayak in and take an architectural boat tour on, but it is not safe or sanitary to swim in this water way which was once of the most busiest trading routes in North America. It’s also illegal.

Jen DeSalvo from our sister station WLS-AM 890 caught Facebook video of the dying process as it happened today.

The Cubs Gear People Will Be DYING To Buy

Cubs Coffin

“The Cubs finally win the World Series…now I can die!”  And you can plan to do so in true fanatic style, my friend.  Check out this seemingly affordable Cubs-branded casket from the greatest mega retailer to ever come out of Bentonville, Arkansas!

Let us count all the benefits, shall we? First, a low, low everyday price.  (Check.)  Second?  It’s on SALE.  (Boom.)  In addition, is that rich Corinthian leather I see?  (It just might be!)

And last but not least, your mortal remains can spend eternity with a logo that no longer represents lukewarm futility served with a side of everlasting hope.

In short, this last request of a dying Cubs fan is the new hotness.

In short, this new request of a dying Cubs fan is the last thing you will ever need.  Literally.

(Wow.  Just…wow.  Thanks for the recycle, RedEye!)

VIDEO: Bill Murray delivers the best postgame World Series interviews

616062212-comedian-bill-murray-visits-the-james-brady-press-jpg-crop-promo-xlarge2

Bill Murray continues to be the unofficial spirit animal of Chicago Cubs during this historic World Series campaign which concluded with a long-to-be-remembered championship victory in the 10th inning last night against the Cleveland Indians. Murray being Hollywood royalty has casual access to MLB lockerooms, so why not during this celebratory time give one of the funniest Americans comedy stars a mic and let him roam free. And that’s just what Fox Sports did during their post-game coverage last night which saw the ‘Ghostbusters’ star interact with Cub’s GM Theo Epstein, star players Dexter Fowler and Jason Heyward.

Highlights included Murray pitching an idea for bobblehead toy idea to Heyward that would depict his now famous leaning-on-the-wall catch earlier in the World Series. “We need to get a bobblehead of you holding a World Series trophy” quipped After blinking through the sweet sting of champagne, Murray continued on to chat with Epstein who sprayed him with more champagne. “I guess that means I get a 10 day tryout.” said a glowing Murray.

Murray continued to the fun by spraying the local media with champagne on local TV. “Turn the cameras and let her have a sip” said Murray to a local reporter off camera.

How well would Chicago deal with a Zombie apocalypse?

flyboy-4

As ‘the Walking Dead’ continues to be one of the biggest shows on TV and Halloween just passing us, the discussion of what a hypothetical zombie virus disaster would be like and how would we deal with it as humans fighting to survive. Careerbuilder put together a updated and comprehensive list this week  “ranking the 53 largest U.S. metropolitan areas (with more than 1 million residents) based on their occupational skills and industry characteristics. A standard, flesh-eating virus transmitted via biting or contact with infected blood is assumed. The index is scored on eight different factors in four categories: ability to defend against the virus, ability to contain the virus, ability to find a cure and ability to outlast the epidemic with an ample food supply. The study is based on data from Economic Modeling Specialists Intl. (EMSI), which analyzes labor market data from more than 90 national, state and local employment resources.”

And our fair city Chicago comes in at #45 on this list?….really?

You can read the full list here if you think you need to move.

How can our city which has endured one of the largest metropolitan fires and food-related comas enduced by our constant consumption of pizzas deeper than Lake Michigan, not survive a pesky invasion of the unread? I survive the Cubs winning the World Series in Wrigleyville, so it felt like a good ‘fire drill’ for zombie attack if all the zombies were actually really happy and excited people drinking a lot.

But it’s ok, based on this same survey in the last two years New York City has ranked the worst.

ALL THE WAY!!

After we won the 101WKQX SQUAD and I stayed on the air from locations all over town until 2 AM. The world was different now. THE CUBS HAD WON THE WORLD SERIES!! WE WENT ALL THE WAY!! Afterwords I decided to walk home through the city. On the way I met a few fellow Cubs fans all still in disbelief. See them here in my video.
