If you thought you had yourself an eventful New Years Eve, then look at what this guy did and try to compare! I feel sick just watching this!
If you thought you had yourself an eventful New Years Eve, then look at what this guy did and try to compare! I feel sick just watching this!
New Year’s Eve is a night to either embrace the madness outside at bars and elsewhere or you just hunker down for a night of eventful TV. Why watch some jerk in a scarf tell you about a ball drop on the other side of the country, go with the good local stuff. Some of Chicago’s best stand up comedians are taking over the airwaves of WCIU ‘the U’ tonight at 9pm and 12am with ‘Chicago’s One Night Stand-Up’ with a special filmed from Zanie’s. Hosted by Laugh Factory regular Rebcca O’Neil with a whose who of local stand outs in stand up with Pat McGan (he kicked butt on Letterman before), the outrageous Kristen Lundberg, Martin Morrow (a frequent guest with our own Brian & Lou) and many more people who drive on the Stevenson like you. Here’s a preview from the ‘You, Me, & this Morning’.
As someone who does stand-up in Chicago, I can not express how awesome this is. These comics are hilarious and hardworking, who will make your proud to say their from our town.
If you can’t catch this tonight, DVR it or watch the encore that airs tomorrow at 8pm.
Panic! at the Disco had a great year in 2016 with a #1 album on the BIllboard Top 200 Chart, a massive tour with Weezer, a Grammy nomination, and they spoiled us with a must-see Lounge session just a few weeks ago, watch it below. PATD is not resting on their butts, as they have confirmed this week they are working on new music for a future album all while ramping up for a big arena tour that is already SOLD-OUT for a March 11th date at the Allstate Arena (ENTER TO WIN TIX FOR THAT SHOW HERE)
Speaking to Billboard this week, Urie revealed how the band is working on new material while being still so busy with touring behind their recent hit ‘Death of a Bachelor’. ” Whether I’m writing a lyric or making a beat, every day I’m doing something. I never really stopped working, so I’m curious to do the sort of Frankenstein method now and see if I can pull all of these things to kind of jigsaw puzzle this [next] album. I’m just going to keep writing until that happens — it seems like it’s going really well right now. There’s a few ideas I’m really excited to keep working on.”
Urie also talked about doing some creative things outside of music in the future when he spoke with Lauren during our Lounge session.Could we see Urie perform on Broadway?

It is very common in Shanghai for people to perpetrate accident fraud. Actually, it happens in a number of European and Asian nations. Hence, the number of dash cams overseas. And hence, this video below for the world’s worst actress:
From NPR:
The Chinese term for this kind of fraud is “pengci” — literally translated as “touch porcelain.” During the Qing Dynasty, a person — usually from a formerly wealthy family — would dress as a nobleman, position himself in a crowded public place holding expensive-looking china (usually fake) and let others “hit” him, causing him to drop the china. He’d then demand compensation.
The Oscars are in February. Worst actress in a foreign film, hands down. — [eric]
This is usually a time to reflect on a year gone by,but 2016 was pretty depressing. If you don’t believe me, read this.
I felt the impulse to look back farther in our collective past, because of a song that we were playing today. The Smashing Pumpkins track “1979” was on the playlist this morning, a wonderful song that was written about the wild emotions we go through in our youth. Those emotions provoke maybe crazed actions, those silly things we remember and laugh at now. The stuff you did when you were bit a younger and not as wise as you are now.
This prompted a call on all of you listening to text in to 312101 with your dumb teenage stories. And man, you all delivered a LOT of really fun stories. There was not enough time to share them all on air, so check out these tall tales of teenage fury and fun.
When I was 14 I attempted to ride a shopping cart down a steep hill off of a 3 foot ledge the front tires hit the ledge a flip forward got major road rash on my face and arm and sprained my elbow and wrist – Blake in Indiana
When I was 16, I accidentally sent a girl a text meant for my brother that was about her. She got mad at me so I drove 30 miles to see her and try to explain myself. It was 4 degrees outside and I left the heat off because I thought my being cold would help my chances. It did not. Lol. – Anonymous in 708
As teenagers some and some friends of mine were making a class film for school. We thought it would be a good idea to speak paint my friend metallic silver. His mom was livid and it took two days to get off. Head to toe. Including his face. His mom made us buy the paint thinner! We got a B on the project though! – Graham, Naperville
We used to go to funeral homes on Friday nights ….Just went and acted like we knew the person that died. Ate snacks, went in the empty caskets they used for display I’m actually on my way to work right now… At the funeral home. LOL! 13 years later and I guess I’m still a wee bit morbid. – Killey from somewhere in Chicago
My friends and I used to walk around with cable remote controls turning off people’a cable while they were watching it. – Gregg, Romeoville
There was 6 of us and we picked up the entire car and moved it. A few buddies and I picked up a smart car and moved it to the owners neighbors driveway. Doing what high schoolers do best and trying to impress a couple girls we were with by doing the stupidest thing we could think of …– Michael, Bartlett
Now there was a lot of grand tales of hormone-drenched mischief and misadventure, that was shared on air but this story from Jason in Glen Ellen, is the story you could tell every time your at a bar with nothing to talk about. He stole his dad’s car, his dad’s cop car….and then pulled people over in it.

The future is getting scary, weird, and closer to scenarios once only presented to us in science fiction which are now becoming a part of our everyday lives. This is evident again with news this week from IGN who reported on a new artificial intelligence computer program that can write and create ‘movies’ by itself.
A Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) study recently pitted two A.I. systems against each other, with one making a short movie and the other being tasked to find the machine-made video out of group made by real people when presented with the results. The short videos made by the A.I. were only one and-a-half seconds long with a 64×64 pixel resolution and they were able to pass the opposing A.I. as realistically-created content. The same videos were also able to fool 20% of a human sample of workers at Amazon’s Mechanical Turk.
The short video can not create episodes of TV and movies but this tech can be applied to future initiatives with self-driving cars and other A.I. driven ventures. Still imagine what it would be like if a computer program was writing one of your favorite shows and you never even knew it wasn’t made by a real person? It is not guaranteed that this tech will grow out of control and replace all the talented creators behind the shows we love, it’s just uncomfortable to think it’s remotely possible.
If you were wondering, yes this is scary. Even computer genius and philanthropist Bill Gates has stated his fear of how the future of A.I. if left unchecked, could be dangerous for us humanity. It’s unsettling that highly intelligent person like Gates also thinks that something like ‘the Terminator’ movies could become a reality.

The crazed future of computers taking over our world has been played out in almost any form of storytelling but an odd one that people seemed to be collectively seen as a miss is ‘AI: Artificial Intelligence’ the train wreck scifi film in 2001. Channel Awesome’s Nostaglia Critic breaks down the big theory of this man melding with machine story in one of this review.
The Nashville Predators are continuing their years-long mission this week to keep Chicago Blackhawks fans from attending games between the two teams at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Hockey fans attending the game tonight between the two teams, can get in with a season-ticket holder ID card or tickets by credit card but “will be restricted to residents of the Nashville Predators television viewing area — Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia. Residency will be based on credit card billing address. Orders by residents outside the viewing area will be canceled without notice and refunds given.”
The team confirmed the move in a tweet.
🚨 Reminder: Tomorrow's game is Passport or Credit Card entry ONLY! #CHIvsNSH

In 2013, the Predators started these restrictions to dissuade Hawks fans from coming south when they would not allow anyone to purchase single game tickets to Predators/Blackhawks games, rather offering two-game ticket packages. This evolved into another heavy-handed blockade during a playoff series (which the Blackhawks won by the way) where fans could only buy tickets locally and in person.
Nashville Convention and Visitors Corp (NCVC) has publically stated they are unhappy with the move.
This is easily the most selfish and insecure move by any sports team in a while.
Here is a local TV report from Nashville touching on the topic.
Oh, and Tampa Bay Ligthning are dumb and petty too. Remember the Stanley Cup finals with them….
WGN sportscaster Pat Tomasullo reacted to this bs with this delightful bit filmed in Florida.
Friend Dog Studios has done a pretty good job turning the events of 2016 into a horror film trailer. I’m terrified! -wALT

Ahhhh, Carrie Fisher. Too young. Rest in peace….
You get the feeling that more celebs have died in 2016 than most years?
You would be….in the ballpark. But not necessarily because of the reason or reasons you think.
I was wondering if it was a psychological phenomenon, so I started doing some Google searching. What I found was this article from the BBC that gives us some clarity on the question: have more famous people died in 2016?
Here’s what they found:
I’ll leave you with this: as you grow older, you’ve had more of an opportunity to form some sort of bond, however trivial, with those who have become famous. So an 18 year old is not going to have as much perspective in this as say, a 38 year old.
It will be good to move on to 2017, but if you think we are going to escape this phenomenon, expect the Grim Reaper to keep on doing its thing. — [eric]
Carrie Fisher was flying from London to Los Angeles on Friday, Dec. 23, when she went into cardiac arrest. Paramedics removed her from the flight and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for a heart attack. She later died in the hospital.

Dear 2016,

The 1975 sold-out the 02 Arena in London a few weeks back, so why not film the whole show and put it up through Vevo? Sure, why not, we’re not going to tell them to stop. That’s right an entire HD pro-shot concert for free online, what a time in music right? Beware some strobey light effects and naughty words for those of you with sensitive eyes and ears.
If that’s not enough for the 1975 fans, here is there #Lounge session with us from November.
