Tilikum the orca has died after more than two decades at SeaWorld Orlando, where he gained notoriety for killing a trainer in 2010 and was later profiled in a documentary that helped sway popular opinion against keeping killer whales in captivity. (MORE HERE)
One of the funniest TV shows of the last 10 years ‘Key & Peele’ was absent from the hot Election year gumbo that was active in 2016 as they transitioned into movies (‘Keanu’ was funny, go watch it) so we missed their energetic satire of current events. That changed last night on Comedy Central when Jordan Peele playing President Obama and Keegan-Michael Key playing the President’s anger translator Luther reemerged to roast the recent political changes and do a ‘farewell address’.
“Wayne’s World” was released in theaters in February 1992.
The “Party On! 25 Years of Wayne’s World” celebration will start with a poster contest at If These Walls Could Talk in downtown Aurora on Feb. 3. Those in attendance are invited to wear their best flannels.
AΒ dozen events are planned including a Wayne and Garth look-alike contest, air guitar competition, movie screenings at Two Brothers Roundhouse and Paramount Theatre’s Classic Movie Monday series, a doughnut tasting, Luigi’s Pizza renaming their arcade ‘Noah’s Arcade’ andΒ more.
The series of events will end at RiverEdge Park, where there will be an attempt to establish a world record for the largest number of people head banging to “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen before the July 4th fireworks.
If you ever wanted to try the “Big Kahuna Burger” from “Pulp Fiction” all you have to do is make it. It’s actually not that hard. The video will walk you through it.
Mark Zuckerberg hasnβt said he wants to be president. But if someone were to run for office, that someone might want to line up a few things to prepare for the possibility. A few things that Facebookβs CEO has done. Uncanny, right?
To be clear, setting the table doesnβt mean Zuckerberg plans to sink his teeth into electoral politics. But heβs made some moves in the past few days that have restarted the speculation. On Tuesday, in his annual (and annually publicized) New Yearβs resolution announcement, Zuckerberg vowed to travel to 30 US states to ensure he will have visited and met people from all fifty by the end of 2017. Campaigning much? (MORE HERE)
The more I think about the idea, the less I hate it. Would you vote for him? Tell me on Twitter (haha) @marconibologna or @101WKQX
Goodbye New Yearβs resolutions, hello Krispy Kremeβthe notoriouslyΒ addictive glazed doughnuts areΒ heading back to Chicago. The first of eight planned Krispy Kreme locationsΒ in the Chicago metropolitan area is set to open in the south suburbs later this month, putting nutritionists and waistlines on notice.
Located in Homewood, the store will be the first Krispy Kreme to operate in Chicagoland since the chain’s last store closed in late 2012. The grand opening is set for January 10, and to celebrate the store will give the first 12 customers a dozen glazed doughnuts each week for an entire year. Customers 13 through 100 will get a dozen doughnuts each month for a full year. (MORE HERE)
The last two days have been a filled with social media excitement and anticipation of the fun we can have in the summer months at the various live music festivals throughout the country, but what can we expect here in Chicago were some of the biggest fests go down? That is pretty obvious question so let’s look ahead and try to make some predictions and wishes for the festival season 2017.
The UK alternative vets have grown to become one of the biggest bands in the world, came through town at the United Center on their ‘Drones’ tour and due to return the big stages. One those tempting stages is one that they have taken before, Lollapalooza. This one seems like a sure bet as Matt Belamy himself tweeted about playing Lolla in Grant Park in November. After taking the epic magic of Muse, I can assure this band is a can-not-miss act.
The trio that made the successful transition into a new album with Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba joining them are due to swing back through town after a memorable show at the Hollywood Casino Amptheater. The pattern for a lot of bands doing the festival circuit is hit Europe first, Blink has announced numerous dates across the Atlantic but are wide open after two arena shows in London in July. This would leave them free to play Lolla or Riot Fest which they headlined in 2013.
FOO FIGHTERS
Dave Grohl and his Foos are set to record new music in 2017, have committed to several European festivals, but only one North American show as the headliners of the Bottlerock fest in Napa Valley, California. Only one show in the States? Mmmm….. what’s to stop them from taking the sonic highway of of I-55 to Chicago? i mean they wrote a song about us, our town…here listen
GORILLAZ
This all-star collective lead by Blur’s Damon Alburn may be most known as a cartoon band driven by animated characters, but their live shows are something special and transcendent driven by UK band’s delightful mix of rap, rock, and pop. Gorillaz have taken the big stage with cameo collaborators on a big screen, string quartets, and surprising anything-can-happen feel. Take a peek at this G set from Glatonsbury in 2010.Β Plus the band has been teasing new music through artwork for months now, so it’s possible.
RANCIDΒ
The Bay Area punk titans are already committed to playing Lollapalooza Brazil, so we know they will be active. They have brought their skank dancing vibes to Riot Fest, so why not kick up some mud with them again right? TIME BOMB!
This should be something (from nothing) to look forward to in 2017. The Foo Fighters who over the last month revealed they are playing select festival dates this year, will also be making new music according a report today from our buds, Consequences of Sound.Β Β The Foos will headline the Bottlerock fest in California, which could be “their only show in 2017 in North America,β according to Dave Graham, CEO of Latitude 38, the entertainment company behind the Napa Valley event.
This will be the band’s ninth studio album following 2014’sΒ Sonic HighwaysΒ which accompanied an HBO documentary series about the Foos writing and recording the record in various U.S. cities. They were very busy in 2015 they toured extensively, releasedΒ two 2015 EPs, Songs from the Laundry Room and Saint Cecilia,Β so taking off 2016 was not that big of a deal. It was fun when the FoosΒ comically teased a break-up.Β before taking the extended break, which saw drummer Taylor Hawkins release his solo album ‘KOTA’ and tour with his 70’s superstar cover band, Chevy Metal.Β
It’s not clear when the band will release the new music, or if they will add more live shows this year. Let’s hope we get them in Chicago sooner rather than later.
Here’s 67-year-old Ric Flair totally crapping on your New Year’s resolution … showing he’s stronger than you’ll EVER BE … by deadlifting what appears to be 400 lbs (we counted it up, 4 plates on each side).
Nature Boy added a caption to the video — “I.Will.Never.Retire.” (MORE HERE)
This is only the beginning of why I’m feeling like a failure. *Goes to find comfort in his one true love…PIZZA!!
While we patiently await the new Gorillaz album, the band members have been giving us gifts such as artwork, and now a second playlist from one of the members of the band.

Chicago just scratched away a designation weβre all too happy to lose. For the first time in five long, itchy years, Chicago no longer the No. 1 city in the country for bed bugs.
Chicago has had the ignominious βhonorβ of dominating the annual critter rankings, which are released annually by Orkin and based on cases treated over the prior year by the pest company. Chicago had previously topped the list four consecutive years.
The new leader? Baltimore, MD, which shot to the front despite having never placed in the top five in the six years Orkin has released its data. The only Illinois metro aside from Chicago to place in the Top 50 was Champaign-Springfield-Decatur, which rose 12 spots over last year to come at No. 30 overall. Check out the national top ten below, plus how many positions each city rose or fell:
1) Baltimore (+9)
2) Washington, D.C. (+1)
3) Chicago (-2)
4) New York
5) Columbus, Ohio
6) Los Angeles (-4)
7) Detroit
8) Cincinnati
9) Philadelphia (-3)
10) San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose (+4)
Weβve all been thereβyou quickly board a CTA train only to find that you choose the same railcar as the guy who isnβt wearing pants. Itβs an unpleasant memory, sure, but donβt let that one chance encounter sourΒ you on riding the subway sans culottes.
On Sunday, pantsless adventurers in more than 30 cities worldwide will take part in the infamous No Pants Subway Ride. True to its name, the event welcomes funny people from throughout the city to get together, share some laughs and bare their briefs for a couple hours on the CTA Red Line. (MORE HERE)

If you watched any NYE# television then you know how awful it all was. There were a few standouts. Kathy Griffin started the night on CNN with some super sweaty pits. Not to be outdone, CNN’s Don Lemon had too much to drink and got hie ear pierced. And then there’s Mariah Carey. Apparently she couldn’t hear herself and just decided to stop pretending to sing. I do love New Years Eve programming!
Kathy Griffin’s pits came to party. Luckily someone had a boa.
