Taco Bell plans to go nationwide this month with its latest concoction: a taco with a shell made entirely out of fried chicken. Taco Bell says the shell of the Naked Chicken Chalupa is made up of all-white seasoned chicken. The rest of the taco is packed with lettuce, tomatoes, cheddar cheese and avocado ranch sauce. Looks Like “Gus” is Coming to “Better Call Saul”

Another “Breaking Bad” character may be joining “better Call Saul” season 3. They released this promo video of Giancarlo Esposito as “Gus” the owner of “Los Pollos Hermanos.”  Pretty creepy slogan, too. “Taste the family.”

Woody Harrelson joins Han Solo Star Wars film

Woody Harrelson has come a long way from being a dimwitted bar back in the sitcom ‘Cheers’ to a fierce Haymitch Abernathy in the ‘Hunger Games’ film series, and now he’s going to a galaxy far far away. Harrelson is confirmed to appear in the upcoming Star Wars spin off film with Alden Ehrenreich playing a young Han Solo and Donald Glover as a young Lando Calrissian. Harrelson’s role is believed to see him as a mentor to Solo, but it certainly adds a proven vet to the new wave of Disney produced SW films.

“We couldn’t be more excited to work with an artist with as much depth and range as Woody,” the film’s directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (The LEGO Movie) said in a statement through LucasFilm. “His ability to find both humor and pathos, often in the same role, is truly unique. He is also very good at ping pong.”

Harrelson is quite busy this year already with three films set to be released including ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’, the R-rated comedy ‘Wilson’ and the experimental ‘live movie’ experiment he’s doing in limited theaters next week called ‘Lost in London’. Get the lowdown on all the big movies of 2017 in our 17 to Anticipate article here.

This Han Solo is scheduled to come out in May 2018, but could get pushed back to December 2018. It goes into production this month.

Struggling at work?

The first thing I did when we moved to our new location at NBC tower was scout out places to nap.

What I didn’t know then is that naps are GREAT for work productivity!  An hour long afternoon nap improves memory and critical thinking!

Researchers examined the sleeping patterns of nearly 3,000 people to learn whether taking a nap had any effect on mental health.

Nearly 60 percent of the people in the study said they napped after lunch for between 30 and 90 minutes, with the average nap time at about 63 minutes.

The participants took several tests to assess their mental status, answering simple questions about the date, time of year and basic math problems.

According to the study, published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, those who took an hour-long nap performed better on the mental tests compared to those who did not nap!

This is great news!  I’m off to grab some shut eye.

10 STANDOUT BANDS @ BONAROO 2017 (WIN TICKETS!)

c15epwwxaae0jyk-668x1024

Here are 10 bands in no specific order that you should seek out at the just-announced Bonaroo Music & Arts Festival 2017. Win the trip and tix to Bonnaroo by texting FEST to 64636. More on that here.

The Irish rock titans are jumping on the road to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their magical ‘Johsua Tree’ album. This date on a massive fest has not been the norm for Bono and company due the band being able to play football stadiums on their own, like the recently announced June 3rd show at Soldier Field (WIN TICKETS HERE)

RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS

The Peppers deliver live every time. They have tons of songs you will hear live that make you go “OH , I LOVE THAT” and then wiggle your butt wildly. Yes, instant wiggling going down. If you are not able to do roadtrippen to Manchester, Tennessee here is your shot to see RHCP during their two night residency at the United Center on June 30th  and July 1st.

THE XX

This duo of dreamy alternative has been coming up strong, and this recent breakout performance on Saturday Night Live makes them that ‘band you’ve heard about that you need to checkout’ on this year’s ‘Roo lineup. The XX plays Aragon on May 1st.

LORDE

The New Zealand lady boss of alt is preparing to return in 2017 with this festival set one of her biggest shows announced so far. Could this allude to seeing her perform in another giant music fest? Maybe one that takes place in Grant Park in August….WHOA! Slow down, just speculating about how this affects the Chicago area live music fests, for more on who could be at Lollapalooza and Riot Fest, check out our Palooza Possibilities predictions/wants.

COLD WAR KIDS

CWK has made memories at Piqniq and Lolla in the past, so the sunny southern skies should be no problem. They also know how to amp their shows with alternate versions of their recorded material to give it a fresh feel for their live show that makes it feel unique and special.

CAGE THE ELEPHANT

This band is one of the best live acts in music, not just alternative, all of it. Their sets which have seen singer Matt Schultz become a puppet-master of jumping crowds at our Piqniq and Nights We Stole Christmas shows have proven that Cage is band you can see multiple times and enjoy more each time.

GLASS ANIMALS

Their groovy Lounge session with us showed how much the Oxford-based group can get and that ability to be chill yet energized is an underrated part of a festival experience.  You can only crowd surf so long before people don’t want to carry you, so this band provides that buzzy cocktail hour music for the modern age.

TEGAN & SARA

These loveable Canadians have been able reinvent themselves and bring their diehard fans with them along the way. We were fortunate enough to be able to feature them on at No Dough Show a few years ago and just a few months back in an intimate Lounge session. There songs have this real resonance live that you might not catch on your first or third listen, so get closer ..get it,…closer with this video.

ROYAL BLOOD

A UK band who the Foo Fighter’s Dave Grohl says is his one of his “favorite bands”, Royal Blood  won us over in 2014 with “Figure it Out” when they opened for Rise Against on our ‘Twas the Night Before show at House of Blues. They got this feeling you can gravitate very quickly with fist-bumping breakdowns and hooks that get stuck in your head.

THE FRONT BOTTOMS

When I got to chat with this band at Lolla’16 the energy was loud and pronounced: happy! This punk-influenced act from New Jersey had a standout set in the main field at Grant Park earned over people who never knew them and fans who fell in love with them online stood by the rails for their set for hours.

THE ORWELLS

These wild boys with a head-bobbing sound that meets at a cross section of the Stooges, the Strokes, and Cage the Elephant come right from our area, specifically Elmhurst. Catching one of their sold-out shows at Lincoln Hall a few years ago was a ride in itself with crowd surfing extravaganzas, collective stomping, mass clapping and mandatory hip-shaking. Based on their 2016 release ‘Terrible Human Beings’ that fire is still burning.

The Bonnaroo 2017 Lineup

The Bonnaroo lineup is out! U@ (doing Joshua Tree cover-to-cover), Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lorde and, as you can see below, a lot more. Check out their official site HERE. Score a trip to Bonnaroo by texting FEST to 64636. More on that HERE.

(WATCH) Eddie Vedder performs at President Obama’s farewell address

(from consequenceofsound.net)  Photo via Twitter/@paveral

Over his two terms as POTUS, Barack Obama has earned the endearing if ironic nickname of the hipster President. Even on his way out of office, he still proudly claims ownership of that title, as he tapped Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder to perform ahead of his farewell address on Tuesday evening. Their relationship has been a bit more than just political, as well. In fact, the President once stopped in to visit (if only briefly) Vedder’s family while they were both on vacation in Hawaii. Vedder was also one of the rumored guests at the celebrity-packed White House party earlier this month. (MORE HERE)

The Killers just opened the best fortune cookie ever

cxfgclxuaaeuw-j

The Killers are gearing up for a busy 2017 with a new album cycle after putting out a compilation of Christmas music for charity last month and spending New Year’s Eve jamming with Paul McCartney, so their collective futures are bright. Apparently, Chinese food chain Panda Express agrees with this after the band who recorded the classic song “Smile Like You Mean It” opened a fortune cookie that reads just that “Smile Like You Mean It.”  Yes, we are not making this up.

This song about yearning for your past, dwelling on it, and maybe moving on from something. Maybe that is just my take.  “It’s more melancholy, but it really translated to a lot of people. It was very personal to me, and that’s one of the things that’s amazing about music – we all bring our own meaning to songs. It was quite a sophisticated song for where we were at that time, I think.” said Brandon Flowers in 2013 in NME magazine.

17 Movies to anticipate in 2017: Blockbusters, Heroes, and Baby Drivers

forceawakens-hamill-ending

There is plenty to look forward in 2017 in terms of movies..Yes, movie that are not just Star Wars VIII. Whether it’s a big blockbuster sequel you are already looking forward to or a hidden gem you may not have heard of yet, take a look at this non-ranked list of what you need to know. Did we miss something here? Tweet at us @101WKQX or hit us up on Facebook.

Star Wars Episode VIII

The Force has been awakened and after the big loss that hit the Rebellion (um,. ‘Resistance’) in last year’s smash return to the galaxy far far away. It feels like this will be another movie with astronomical expectations. The ending  of the last film in the series leads us to believe we are going to get more of Luke Skywalker here, but the recent passing of Carrie Fisher may make this film a lot more emotional in an unintended way.

Thor: Ragnarok

If you really liked seeing the God of Thunder Thor battle the Incredible Hulk in the first Avengers film, well you should be looking forward to this for a possible re-match. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has a pretty solid track record but the Thor solo movies need a kick in the Norse mythology pants. Also Chris Hemsworth has the character developed to a point where you can do different things with him.

Beauty and the Beast

This live action update to the classic Disney animated feature has the whimsy and wonder we are looking for. It’s all member-berries but it’s a movie worthy of an update. Yes, it may be the only movie on this list that likely does not feature a lot of explosions. Yes, I know my standards are very man-childy

LOGAN

The swan song of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and maybe even the end of Patrick Stewart as Professor X in an R-rated superhero banger. If ‘Deadpool’ was better because it had less limitations with an R-rating, imagine what we can get when we get to see Jackman take those claws out in one final fight.

Wonder Woman

This was probably the best trailer to come out of Comic Con this year, with Gal Gadot delivering a period piece of a heroine who kicks all types of butt. She was one of the best parts of ‘Batman vs. Superman’. The Amazonian warrior entering the world of mortals could save the DC Cinematic Universe and help create buzz for another movie on this list.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2

The first one was delightful and exceeded all types of expectations. The trailer for the sequel has all of the rag tag outer space adventure team back together for a new journey with a talking tree that is too cute for words. It just looks rad, and saying anything else besides “watch this trailer” would be silly.

Spider-Man: Homecoming

Tom Holland as the new Spider-Man appearing in ‘Civil-War’ was one of the best moments from Marvel movies recently and it helps reinvigorate interest in a really beloved character after some missteps it’s good to see a fresh-take that echoes the teen-movie sentiment of John Hughes who gave us ‘The Breakfast Club’ and ‘Pretty in Pink’. This style is what Spidey needs in a new movie, a charismatic dork who gets his powers and struggles with how to handle them. With Great Power comes….you know the rest right?

Justice League

Where Marvel fans feel their movies are solid, DC fans have seen a mixed bag recently with many walking out of ‘Batman v Superman’ feeling underwhelmed. That makes this movie crucial to the DC Cinematic Universe. The comparison to ‘Avengers’ will expected but makes complete sense, which is not a bad thing. The gravitating characters in this grand all-star team-up are all there, it has the potential.

War of the Planet of the Apes

CGI ‘performance capture’ has been stellar in this underrated scifi reboot series about advanced apes taking over apocalyptic Earth. Andy Serkis playing the lead ape Ceasar, looks fierce as ever with Woody Harrelson is going to show-off his reliable chops as a villain.

Wilson

Yes, Woody Harrelson is busy in 2017. This R-rated comedy is based on graphic novel, Harrelson playing a middle-aged neurotic divorcee who can’t get anyone to love him and finds out his ex-wife gave his daughter for adoption. Oh and this is a daughter, he never knew about her. The foul-mouthed trailer below is NSFW, but it teases what looks like one of the funniest new movies in years.

OH YOU THOUGHT WE WERE DONE WITH WOODY HARRELSON, oh no…Honestly, it’s not our fault he’s so active.

Lost in London

Harrelson is going to live stream a movie, they are going to shoot the movie live to theaters. This pretty daring and exciting, almost like a live play but shot from location in London. The story is based on a real series of events that occurred to Harrelson, when a broken ashtray spiraled into a police chase. Lost In London will stream in theaters (via Fathom Events) on January 19, at 8  p.m. ET.

THE CIRCLE

This scifi thriller about a young women joining a Silicon Valley tech company only to find out it’s insidious real nature that goes beyond improving everyone’s life through technology. As our lives become ingrained with tech through social media, this feels like a very inventive and real piece of drama for the modern age. Plus Tom Hanks is an evil Steve Jobs, yes please!

BladeRunner 2049

This sequel to the very influential 80s adventure about a bounty hunter who goes after rogue ‘replicants’ sees Harrison Ford return with Ryan Gosling joing him in the dystopian future..yeah, we’re there again. Though there is a lot of genre domination on this list, but this a really intriguing sequel that is not going to be phoned in by director Denis Villeneuve with the original film’s director Ridley Scott.

Dunkirk

Christopher Nolan has become the director of the last ten years whose name has the pull of cinema masters like Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese whose name on a movie poster peek the interest of many. So now given Nolan takes the reigns of the brutal setting of an evacuation of Allied troops on a coastal town in World War II. The cast which includes the very underrated Cillian Murphy and Tom Hard a.k.a ‘Bane’ from ‘the Dark Knight Rises’.

Alien: Covenant

The ALIENS series has always been driven by the gritty survival of humans in the face of the twisted monster brought to life by the visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott, so it was a bummer to some that the 2012 prequel ‘Prometheus’ did not rattle that same emotion. It was just more low key suspense with less action and other world violence that some have to come to expect. Now with Scott back in the director’s chair for this sequel to the prequel (I know that is a silly sentence), we may get all that horrific tension once again. Plus Michael Fassbender is back in this film, and he has to shake off the stink of that ‘Assassin’s Creed’ movie .

GET OUT

Jordan Peele made his mark as one of half of the Comedy Central duo ‘Key & Peele’ so making his solo writing and directing debut in a Hitchcock styled movie about racial tension, hypnosis, and insidious behavior is a twist. The trailer gives a little too much away but it looks like the creepiest movie of the year.

The Baby Driver

No this is not a movie that literally about a baby driving a car, but there is for some unknown reason an animated movie about a infant playing the boss of an office coming this year. Yeah, sorry that’s a thing. Director Edgar Wright has carved a niche for interweaving dramatic larger-than-life situations with fun tangible characters and sprinkling comedy in the whole mix. Wright won a lot of us over with ‘Shaun of the Dead’ and ‘Hot Fuzz’ so we’ll trust this movie which sees an unknowing kid becoming a getaway driver in a doomed heist.

The iPhone’s 10-year history

(from mashable.com)

Apple’s iconic computer nugget is 10 years old on Monday, and my, how it’s changed.

When Steve Jobs first introduced the iPhone in 2007, it was a squat, chubby gadget sold largely on the merit that you could use it as a “widescreen iPod.” In the decade since, the device has evolved into arguably the most iconic bit of consumer electronics of the 21st century. Its influence is hard to overstate. Say what you will about social networks like Facebook and Twitter, and the ability to take high-def photos or livestream video with a device that fits in your pocket—none of it would exist in the forms we enjoy today without smartphones. And smartphones probably wouldn’t be what they are without the iPhone leading the charge. Not that Apple’s pull has always been a great thing. (MORE HERE)

I love iPhone. It revolutionized the world of tech. Social media, video creation and  beyond have all benefited from it’s creation. However I think Apple needs to create something new that will re-ignite this cycle. Also a better battery!!!

VIDEO: David Bowie’s final recordings are absolutely wonderful

db-99897d0a-598c-45bd-b373-02bb2e4973fc

One of the biggest losses to the music world in 2016, the legendary David Bowie released what could be some of his final recordings this week with the EP, ‘No Plan’ this past Friday. The release correlated with Bowie’s 70th birthday and worldwide celebration of ‘the Thin White Duke’.The songs were recorded in the same period as Bowie’s final album 2016’s ‘Blackstar’ and according to CoS they were included in the cast recording for his recent musical, Lazurus.

A video for the dreamy dreary song ‘No Plan’ also appeared this weekend as well, with the provocative lyrics appearing on TV’s inside of a rain-drenched storefront. The words that Bowie sings here seem to allude to his oncoming death, how he is processing that, and where he may be in the afterlife. It’s a darkly beautiful song that once again shows that even in his most challenging time, this Hall of Famer was still able to make this desperately honest piece of art.

No Plan EP Tracklist:

  1. Lazarus
  2. No Plan
  3. Killing a Little Time
  4. When I Met You

The EP is out now through most streaming services.
