As if Tinder wasn’t terrifyingly awkward enough. Sit in a locked room with a total stranger for 3 to 4 minutes, then do it again 9 MORE TIMES!!?? My anxiety is induced just thinking about this.

The co-owners of Double Door said they will carry through their appeal and maintain their right to further potential legal claims against the landlord after the legendary club was evicted from its longtime Wicker Park location on Monday. Co-owner Sean Mulroney said Double Door had three times given Brian Strauss, the landlord of the property, at 1572 N. Milwaukee Ave, rent payments for January and February, but Strauss “refused to accept” them. “In the interest of protecting both employees and performers at Double Door, we attempted to craft a deal to guarantee our residency through June of 2017,” Mulroney said in a statement.
It feels like no matter what this would only delay the inevitable. BUT it would give them time to plan an amazing farewell party!!!

In 2012, designer John Collins constructed a paper airplane that flew an astonishing 226 feet, establishing a distance record that still stands. A new video demonstrates the steps required to fold your own version of this record-setting paper-based aircraft. Collins recently visited Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, where he talked to students about making paper planes, explaining the importance of having the right materials and design. “If you can wad up a piece of paper and throw it farther than your paper airplane, your plane sucks,” he told the class. NERD ALERT!!! I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!! I WANT TO HAVE A COMPETITION RIGHT NOW!!!
Watching the paper plane in action is actually quite astounding:
Needless to say, building the “perfect” paper airplane isn’t a matter of luck. As Collins told the students, factors that need to be considered include glide ratios, center of gravity, center of lift, the boundary layer, and the Magnus effect. Drawing on his experience with origami, he demonstrated how additional folds at the right spot can shift the center of gravity and make the plane fly better, and how a slight adjustment of the wing’s trailing edge can prevent it from nosediving. Chicago has a neverending love for pizza, from thin-crust slices to thick Chicago-style pies. Dedicating one day to the food we hold so near and dear to our heart, then, seems like the only reasonable thing to do, so in honor of pizza: The Chicago Pizza Summit, the day-long festival that Old Style debuted last year with Andrew W.K., is back. This year’s emcee will be local rapper ShowYouSuck and the event will take place April 9 at Wicker Park’s Chop Shop. Like last year, the vendor lineup won’t be announced until March, but we do know a few things that will be going on during the event. This year will feature the first Chicago Pizza Olympics and the return of the U.S. Pizza Museum, along with a few surprises not yet announced. (MORE HERE)

NY Times– “Dog freaks out on pot” may sound like a scene from a stoner comedy or a viral video, but it happens surprisingly often. In New York City, veterinarians say, canine marijuana poisoning has become a daily occurrence.
This isn’t new! You’re dumb and young, and think it would be funny to blow some smoke in your pet’s face… it happens to the best of us. RIGHT?!
We made a Super Bowl bet with our new producer, Nicci. If the the Falcons won she was getting a Gatorade bath – and if the Patriots won, we were.
Well…
You may have heard about it today online, metorites lit up the skies above the Midwest last night. Several videos online including this one above from the Lisle Police Department show a meteor burning out as captured by a dash camera. The meteor was confirmed by the National Weather Service in Milwaukee and Chicago, and they are asking anyone who captured video or photos of the meteors to send that to them for research purposes.
Here’s another amazing dash cam video of the meteor this morning, this one courtesy of the @MGPD1895! pic.twitter.com/qH0rVNVJhY

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer does not think the widely-acclaimed sketch from this week’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ spoofing his confrontational tone when dealing with the press, was funny. The sketch featuring the debut of ‘Bridesmaids’ starMelissa McCarthy portraying the PR man who wears suits that are too big for him.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Spicer said the show could “could dial back” their portrayal of him but he took particular umbrage with SNL continuing to roast President Trump. This week’s episode which also saw host Kristen Stewart slip an ‘F bomb’ on live TV, opened with an Oval Office sketch where Alec Baldwin return as the Donald and featured White House adviser Steve Bannon portrayed as the ‘Grim Reaper’.
“Alec has gone from funny to mean, and that’s unfortunate. SNL used to be really funny. There’s a streak of meanness now that they’ve crossed over to mean.” said Spicer.
SNL continued to keep their comedic blast on DJT with Michael Che and Colin Jost where they roasted the current administration’s controversial executive orders.

After months of legal battles, the Double Door‘s battle with its current landlord seems to have come to a very unceremonious end this afternoon, as the music venue was evicted from the building it has occupied for the past 23 years. DNAinfo reported that Cook County sheriff’s police posted “no trespassing” signs on the Wicker Park building’s doors while a locksmith switched out locks on the doors around 11:30am this morning.
The lengthy legal battle between the Double Door’s owners and landlord Brian Strauss began back in November 2015, when Strauss began eviction proceedings and alleged that Double Door owner Sean Mulroney did not give proper notice of his intention to renew the lease on the space. When the trial finally ended in June 2016, a judge ruled that the Double Door would need to vacate the building and gave the venue’s owners until the end of 2016 to clear out. (MORE HERE)
To fans the Double Door is an iconic place for music worship. To the landlord’s of the building it’s a chance to generate money as a property owner. It’s a shame that such a great home for music in Chicago will most likely be turned into something with less of a heart.

Whether you’re single or taken, going out on Valentine’s Day can be a struggle. Reservations are hard to come by, everything is marked up and the pressure to be in love—the kind that’s perfectly Instagrammable—is overwhelming. If you’d rather skip the pressure, we say stay in on the couch. Netflix can make for a perfectly suitable Valentine’s Day date, so long as you plan ahead to avoid the dreaded hour-long scroll.
A ROMANTIC (AND FREE) NIGHT AT HOME
1. Adventureland: This weird and lovely indie is more of a coming-of-age tale than a love story, but Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg supply a surprisingly romantic feel.
2. Sing Street: Despite it being nominated for a Golden Globe, not a lot of people are talking about this sweet and optimistically romantic movie, but it’s great.
3. Blue is the Warmest Color: You have to commit to this one: It’s three hours and in French. But the story of two young women who fall in love in Paris is one of the most captivating and devastating romantic films out there.
4. The Office: If you’re not feeling a movie, watch the best Pam and Jim episodes from Seasons 2 and 3 to get that true love vibe you’re going for.
5. Step Up: Hear us out. It may have spawned a million sequels, but you can watch the true original, where Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan actually first fell in love. (MORE HERE)
I also find How It’s Made, Curious and Unusual Deaths and The IT Crowd to be very romantic as well.
