Don Rickles was one of the funniest men who ever lived

This week comedy legend Don Rickles passed away at the age of 90 due to kidney failure. His prolific career in comedy, television, and film spanned through multiple decades, seeing him rise from night clubs to the world stage. He gained national prominence through his working relationship with pop singer Frank Sinatra and his many appearances on ‘the Tonight Show’ with Johnny Carson. Rickle’s electric comedy style was unfiltered wit and a natural ability to cut into any sacred cow that existed in pop culture and beyond. To be insulted by him was a sincere and dignified honor. He gained the ironic nickname ‘Mr. Warmth’ but to those close to him he was regarded as a truly endearing and caring man who stayed loyal to his craft. No matter who he was joking about, Rickles will be remembered as one of the greatest comedians who ever lived.

If your unaware of his work, seek out the following

  • Any of Rickle’s 100 appearances on ‘The Tonight Show’ as he’s just best late night TV show guest
  • His classic alum ‘Hello Dummy’ is available on iTunes, Spotify, Google Music and other streaming services,
  • Read his autobiography ‘Rickle’s Boook’ is a must-read if you want to what makes a comic a comic
  • Watch him in the ‘Toy Story’ series, ‘Casino’ and his improvised performance in the R-rated comedy ‘Dirty Work’
  • Spike TV’s tribute ‘One Night Only: Don Rickles’  and the Jon Landis-directed documentary ‘Mr. Warmth’

Late night host Jimmy Kimmel gave a touching and emotional tribute this week, shining a light on Rickle’s sharp in-the-moment wit and his influence on many modern day entertainers.

Rickles roasts Sinatra as only he can.

MATT & KIM CANCEL TOUR (WATCH HOW KIM INJURED HERSELF ON STAGE)

This sucks so much. Not only are Matt & Kim great and I love their music, but I love them even more because I’ve gotten to know them through their Snapchat Story and YouTube videos.

Basically what happened was Matt & Kim were performing at a festival in Mexico and Kim unfortunately tore her ACL during the performance.  They’ve had to cancel all currently announced tour dates and estimate they’ll be off the road for approximately 9 months for her to heal….

Kim is awesome and I know she’s going heal fast and they will come back bigger and badder than ever!!

New Music Friday!

Happy Friday!  I have been following Brick + Mortar for a while and got the chance to meet and chat with them at Riot Fest last year.  They are super rad dudes and their brand new song is my favorite thing right now.

Check out ‘One Little Pill’

YouTube’s streaming TV service has launched in Chicago

(timeout.com)

Currently, YouTube TV offers a selection of 40 live channels, including the five major broadcast networks and a selection of basic cable mainstays, such as ESPN, FX, SyFy, MSNBC and Disney Channel (check out the full channel lineup below). It’s a solid selection of channels. You can watch YouTubeTV on your laptop, phone or TV (with the help of a Chromecast device). Plus, an unlimited digital DVR feature allows you to record all of your programs and stockpile them for extended binge sessions on rainy days. (MORE HERE)

This looks pretty cool, but I still can’t find my remote. Until then I guess I’ll just watch TV by candlelight like my ancestors.

WATCH: Footage Of Bleachers Jack Antonoff Live Scoring “The Breakfast Club” #PIQNIQ (ARTIST)

It’s no surprise that Bleachers frontman Jack Antonoff and his band are very inspired by 80’s music.  So why not have him score the 80’s classic movie “The Breakfast Club!”

Last week Jack did just that. He and bandmates provided a live soundtrack to a showing of the film.

See these clips from Instagram of that night. Maybe he’ll work some of these in at PIQNIQ?? (GET YOUR TICKETS)

Queens Of The Stone Age teases

Queens Of The Stone Age posted this image all over social media today:

We did hear there was a new album coming this year when Troy Sanders of Mastodon let that nugget slip out to Rolling Stone.  Then we heard that the new album was finished when podcast host and past band interviewer Dean Delrey leaked that Queens had “just finished” a project during an episode of his show Let There Be Talk last month.

My body is ready.

Upcoming dates:
06-22-25 Montebello, Quebec – Amnesia Rockfest
07-13 Auckland, New Zealand – Logan Campbell
07-22 Tenindea, Australia – Splendour in the Grass
07-28-30 Kinasa, Japan – Fuji Rock Festival
08-11-13 San Francisco, CA – Outside Lands

Chicago? Please?

David Letterman set to induct Pearl Jam into Rock Hall of Fame

One of the greatest TV show hosts of the last 30 years is going to induct one of the best rock bands of the last 30 years into the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame. Late NIght comedy icon David Letterman is set to induct Pearl Jam into the Rock HoF on Friday in Brooklyn with the news confirmed yesterday after rock legend Neil Young had to back out due to illness. Pearl Jam and Letterman have had a long love affair with the band appearing on his CBS show several times. The induction ceremony this year will be broadcast on HBO and their streaming channels

Pearl Jam certainly is deserving of the honor with millions of albums sold, thousands of impressions felt at countless shows, and numerous songs that will outlive the band itself. That magic was present when I caught their transcendent shows last August which had some very memorable moments like this certain Chicago Bulls legends making an appearance.

Check out PJ’s Eddie Vedder playing with the Late NIght band on during Letterman’s final run of shows.

PJ played ‘Why Go’ on Letterman in 2006 from the famed Ed Sullivan Theater, made famous by the Beatles.

Here’s What Chicagoans Are Ordering Late At Night

Sometimes, data reveals deep truths about complex human behavior. Other times, it reveals that we are really junk food obsessed, sex-crazed piggies. A Day To Remember

It was 23 years ago today when we learned that Kurt Cobain had passed away.  I can still remember where I was.  My musical career had just begun and I was with my bandmates in a motel in Tuscan, AZ.  We heard the news and we just felt gutted, spending the rest of the day trying to make sense of the loss.  Nirvana only released music for 5 years but the good news is, that music continues to touch and inspire new generations of music lovers.  That’s the power of music.  Of Kurt’s music.  R.I.P. Kurt. -wALT
