Do You Say “Sneakers” or “Tennis Shoes”? America Is Divided and Furious

Did we really need another thing to tear this country apart?

There are lots of famous debates about what people in different regions call different things . . . like “soda” versus “pop” and “sub” versus “hoagie.”  But one of those debates REALLY just started heating up this week on Twitter.

What do you call the shoes you wear when you exercise?

According to a study by Harvard, 45.5% of people call them “sneakers,” mostly in the northeast . . . 41.3% call them “tennis shoes” . . . and the rest use other terms like “gym shoes” or just plain “shoes.”

Apparently, though, LOTS of people had no idea there was any other term than the one they used . . . so the reactions on social media are trending toward disbelief.

Buy Jimmy Butler’s River North Mansion For $5M

(from chicagoist.com)

It was difficult for Bulls diehards to say goodbye to fan favorite Jimmy Butler when he was traded last month. So if you’re looking for ways to stay close to the Jimmy Buckets memory after his departure, why not move into his old pad? Butler’s River North mansion just listed, for a cool $5 million.

The 10,000 square-footer—which Butler bought for $4.3 million in 2015—is indeed luxurious, with six bedrooms, four full bathrooms, three half-baths, and three large outdoor spaces. But the best part of this listing is clearly what appears to be Butler’s sneakerhead closet, overflowing with enviable kicks. Sadly, we’re guessing it’s shoes not included. (MORE HERE)

LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy says David Bowie inspired his band’s reunion

LCD Soundsystem got quite a bit of flack for their 2016 reunion despite having a worldwide fan base and being revered as one of the best alternative bands of the 2000’s. This was all due to the band having a marathon 3-hour ‘final show’ at Madison Square Garden in 2011. With so many fans holding them to the promise of finality, James Murphy and company had to get out their to remind everyone why they still can deliver those heaps of musical trips for the collective wiggling-hips. They did just that in grand fashion last year performing at California’s Coachella fest and closing out the final day of Lollapalooza in Grant Park. They roll on with plans for a new album ‘American Dream’ due out September 1st, which is heated by the fresh single “Call the Police”. The band will headline this weekend’s Pitchfork festival in Union Park.

So what exactly prompted this critically-acclaimed band who we thought was gone to come back to the stage and studio? David Bowie.

The late great Bowie influenced Murphy to get the band back together, according to an interview this week with BBC Radio 6.  The spark for the LCD 2.0 era were prompted when Murphy was working with Bowie on his final album ‘Blackstar’ which was released in January 2016, just days before his death.

“I spent a good amount of time with David Bowie, and I was talking about coming back and getting the band back together, He said, ‘Does it make you uncomfortable?’ I said ‘Yeah,’ and he said, ‘Good – it should. You should be uncomfortable.’ And the first thing that popped into my mind was, ‘What the? What do you know? You don’t know what it’s like to be uncomfortable.’ Because I’m imagining if I was David Bowie, I’d just walk into the room and flip everybody off, like ‘I’m David Bowie!’ And nobody can say anything – unless maybe Lou Reed’s there … But then of course that’s not who he was ever in his life. He was always making himself uncomfortable. It was such a great feeling of, you just don’t know what you are to anybody else.” said Murphy.

Watch the trash-talking press conference of Mayweather vs. McGregor

The hype train is rolling for the biggest spectacle in combat sports history. UFC’s ‘Notorious’ Conor McGregor  is set jump into the boxing world for the biggest pay-per-view fight of all time as he faces the undefeated Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather on August 26th. The two biggest trash talking charismatic superstars in sports started the press conference tour in front of thousands today in Los Angeles at the Staples Center. The press tour for the fight is pretty epic, packing arenas, and garnering huge audiences through multiple media outlets. It’s over-the-top charisma on full display. It’s still crazy this fight between the biggest star in MMA and Boxing, right? The press tour continues later this week with Wednesday in Toronto, Thursday in Brookly, N.Y., and ending Friday in London.

You can watch the entire hour plus hype show from today here. McGregor started first, taking to the podium to roast Mayweather’s track suit and boldly proclaiming that he will leave the 49-0 boxing great “unconscious” within 4 rounds. McGregor noted that Mayweather’s instituted rules for the weight of the gloves, saying he didn’t care. The Irish fighter also threw another insult in Mayweather’s direction comparing him to boxer James Toney who failed to make the jump into MMA when he was easily squashed by UFC great Randy Coture, saying Toney had a problem with his sport but at least he stepped into the Octagon. The UFC Lightweight Champion exuded confidence and happiness heading into the fight, even though he is deeply rated as the underdog by all the reputable gambling houses.

Mayweather not to be outdone took to the podium, bragging he still has “it” even though at 40, he’s coming out of retirement for this mega-fight. ‘Money’ then promised he would “knock this b**** out”. He then asked for a backpack to be brought over, so he could show a yet-to-be-cashed check for $100 million dollars to cement his heel role heading into the billion-dollar bout. Bringing up his recent tax issues with the Internal Revenue Service, McGregor interrupted that Mayweather would have to fork that hefty check over to the “taxman”, to which Mayweather retorted “I am gonna tax your ass.” Mayweather playing the heel, continued to bring up his money-making status stating that while McGregor was a “seven-figure fighter” , he was a “nine-figure fighter”. “You going out on your face or your back. Which way you wanna go?’ said Mayweather.
