Buy Jimmy Butler’s River North Mansion For $5M

(from chicagoist.com)

It was difficult for Bulls diehards to say goodbye to fan favorite Jimmy Butler when he was traded last month. So if you’re looking for ways to stay close to the Jimmy Buckets memory after his departure, why not move into his old pad? Butler’s River North mansion just listed, for a cool $5 million.

The 10,000 square-footer—which Butler bought for $4.3 million in 2015—is indeed luxurious, with six bedrooms, four full bathrooms, three half-baths, and three large outdoor spaces. But the best part of this listing is clearly what appears to be Butler’s sneakerhead closet, overflowing with enviable kicks. Sadly, we’re guessing it’s shoes not included. (MORE HERE)

LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy says David Bowie inspired his band’s reunion

LCD Soundsystem got quite a bit of flack for their 2016 reunion despite having a worldwide fan base and being revered as one of the best alternative bands of the 2000’s. This was all due to the band having a marathon 3-hour ‘final show’ at Madison Square Garden in 2011. With so many fans holding them to the promise of finality, James Murphy and company had to get out their to remind everyone why they still can deliver those heaps of musical trips for the collective wiggling-hips. They did just that in grand fashion last year performing at California’s Coachella fest and closing out the final day of Lollapalooza in Grant Park. They roll on with plans for a new album ‘American Dream’ due out September 1st, which is heated by the fresh single “Call the Police”. The band will headline this weekend’s Pitchfork festival in Union Park.

So what exactly prompted this critically-acclaimed band who we thought was gone to come back to the stage and studio? David Bowie.

The late great Bowie influenced Murphy to get the band back together, according to an interview this week with BBC Radio 6.  The spark for the LCD 2.0 era were prompted when Murphy was working with Bowie on his final album ‘Blackstar’ which was released in January 2016, just days before his death.

“I spent a good amount of time with David Bowie, and I was talking about coming back and getting the band back together, He said, ‘Does it make you uncomfortable?’ I said ‘Yeah,’ and he said, ‘Good – it should. You should be uncomfortable.’ And the first thing that popped into my mind was, ‘What the? What do you know? You don’t know what it’s like to be uncomfortable.’ Because I’m imagining if I was David Bowie, I’d just walk into the room and flip everybody off, like ‘I’m David Bowie!’ And nobody can say anything – unless maybe Lou Reed’s there … But then of course that’s not who he was ever in his life. He was always making himself uncomfortable. It was such a great feeling of, you just don’t know what you are to anybody else.” said Murphy.

Watch the trash-talking press conference of Mayweather vs. McGregor

The hype train is rolling for the biggest spectacle in combat sports history. UFC’s ‘Notorious’ Conor McGregor  is set jump into the boxing world for the biggest pay-per-view fight of all time as he faces the undefeated Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather on August 26th. The two biggest trash talking charismatic superstars in sports started the press conference tour in front of thousands today in Los Angeles at the Staples Center. The press tour for the fight is pretty epic, packing arenas, and garnering huge audiences through multiple media outlets. It’s over-the-top charisma on full display. It’s still crazy this fight between the biggest star in MMA and Boxing, right? The press tour continues later this week with Wednesday in Toronto, Thursday in Brookly, N.Y., and ending Friday in London.

You can watch the entire hour plus hype show from today here. McGregor started first, taking to the podium to roast Mayweather’s track suit and boldly proclaiming that he will leave the 49-0 boxing great “unconscious” within 4 rounds. McGregor noted that Mayweather’s instituted rules for the weight of the gloves, saying he didn’t care. The Irish fighter also threw another insult in Mayweather’s direction comparing him to boxer James Toney who failed to make the jump into MMA when he was easily squashed by UFC great Randy Coture, saying Toney had a problem with his sport but at least he stepped into the Octagon. The UFC Lightweight Champion exuded confidence and happiness heading into the fight, even though he is deeply rated as the underdog by all the reputable gambling houses.

Mayweather not to be outdone took to the podium, bragging he still has “it” even though at 40, he’s coming out of retirement for this mega-fight. ‘Money’ then promised he would “knock this b**** out”. He then asked for a backpack to be brought over, so he could show a yet-to-be-cashed check for $100 million dollars to cement his heel role heading into the billion-dollar bout. Bringing up his recent tax issues with the Internal Revenue Service, McGregor interrupted that Mayweather would have to fork that hefty check over to the “taxman”, to which Mayweather retorted “I am gonna tax your ass.” Mayweather playing the heel, continued to bring up his money-making status stating that while McGregor was a “seven-figure fighter” , he was a “nine-figure fighter”. “You going out on your face or your back. Which way you wanna go?’ said Mayweather.

TOP 5 WAYS TO BEAT THE HEAT: It will feel like 100 degrees on Wednesday

It’s going to be hot Wednesday. It will feel like 100 degrees according to National Weather Service meteorologist Amy Seeley speaking to DNAinfo, who added this is due to high humidity. The common temp around this time of year in Chicago is 85. Accuweather also reported the hottest period of the day will be in the 5 p.m. hour on Wednesday.

So that we can fit right in with your local basic TV weatherman, here are the top 5 ways to beat the heat….it’s seasonal and it rhymes!

  1. Take all your frozen hot dogs and stuff them in your pants
  2. Fill a bath tub with ice cream but do not eat ice cream….it will be messy but worth it for the story alone
  3. Just stay inside and say it’s hot in there instead of out there. If someone ask why are you staying in, say you don’t like crowds or sweat or sweaty crowds.
  4. Kiddie pools are not just meant for children or being turned into large coolers for beer.
  5. Foucs your attention on cool things like Weezer’s ‘Blue’ alnum or watch ‘A Christmas Story’. Does the Hallmark Channel do a Christmas in July thing?

In all seriousness,  to avoid health issues related to the heat tomorrow drink more water than usual; wear lightweigh, wear sunscreen and avoid leaving children or pets in cars during warm periods. It’s also helpful to check in our senior citizens and your pets during this time.

Tom Morello Asks Two Things Of You

Audioslave bandmate and brother Tom Morello posted on Chris Cornell’s facebook page:

In his song Sunshower, Chris wrote:

All you’ll be, you are today. It’s alright when you’re caught in pain and you feel the rain come down. It’s alright when you find your way, they you see it disappear. It’s alright. Though your garden’s gray I know all your graces someday will flower, in a sweet sunshower.

Chris, I love you, brother. I love your unparalleled artistry. I love your smile. I love your ridiculously beautiful hair. I love your willingness to help others. I love your love of family.

I’d like to ask everyone present to consider making two pledges today in memory of the great Chris Cornell. First, to pledge to offer unconditional forever support to his family, especially his three beautiful children. Lily, Christopher, Toni, if you ever need to talk, need a hug, would like to hear stories about your dad, would like to TELL stories about your dad, need a guitar lesson, OR if you need to be reminded how very much your father loved you with all his heart, every one of us here today is there for you. Through Chris we are your extended family and lifelong resource of love and support.

Second, I’d like to ask everyone here to make a pledge to each other. Look to your right, look to your left. If you ever find yourself in a moment of sadness and doubt, if you fall off the wagon, if you are depressed, if you’re in trouble, if you feel like you might slip off the tightrope of life, in that moment you can call the person sitting next to you right now, you can call me. For Chris’s sake let’s make a commitment to look after one another.

And Chris, please say hello to some old friends for us. Say hi to Kurt, give my love to Layne, and I know that you will enjoy being roommates with Andrew Wood again. That’s one spectacular All Star grunge choir right there. I’d love a bootleg of those heavenly campfire jam sessions.

Chris was many things but I think of him as a redeemer. As the driving force of Soundgarden he redeemed hard rock and metal. Unapologetically embracing badass riffs, he eschewed lyrics about dungeons or dragons and instead wrote deep dark soul searching poetry that opened the door for generations of artists who felt empowered to use their brains along with their musical brawn.

Then Chris redeemed me and Timmy and Brad. It was Badmotorfinger that was one of the main inspirations for Rage Against The Machine and then years later we found ourselves in a band, Audioslave, with the man himself, opening a wonderful chapter of musical exploration and global rocking. Getting to watch firsthand Chris’ effortless conjuring of gorgeous and ferocious melody and his epic rock god-ness on a daily basis is one of the highlights of my life. We made music that I’m so proud of and then rocked Cuba, the first American band to do it, fulfilling a lifelong dream.

And then Chris redeemed himself. Coming out of a period of addiction in the early 2000’s he turned his life around. I’d like to acknowledge and say thank you to someone here today, Tim Commerford. During this period it was Timmy who with an inspired, heroic act of love saved Chris Cornell’s life in 2001 and helped give us all sixteen more years of this beautiful man. But it was Chris himself, with the support and boundless love of Vicky, who built a wonderful, close knit, loving family, who made some of the best music of his career. He played beautiful solo concerts across the planet and after a twelve year break he reconnected with his Audioslave brothers on January 19th of this year. It was the last time I saw Chris. I felt so blessed to stand next to his feral rock fury and soaring vocals one last time. He was just SHINING. His last words to me were, “I had such a great time, let’s do that again. Whenever you guys want.”

It is important today to honor Chris Cornell, the devoted husband and loving father, the warm friend and bandmate, but I’d also like to tip my hat to the darker corners of Chris’ soul because I believe that’s where his brilliance as an artist stemmed from. Chris once texted me in the middle of the night, “If you swallow the coin from the wishing well, your dreams will come true in heaven or hell.” The demons he wrestled with were real. But he harnessed those demons and rode them like a mother flippin’ Chariot Of Lightning strapped with Marshall Stacks to make some of the greatest rock n roll of all time. Loud Love. Just thinking about that awesome jam throws me into headbanging convulsions. Hands All Over. The beauty of Seasons. Try not to cry. Badmotorfinger top to bottom. It’s INSANE. You thought you were safe? Here comes Spoonman. Then Audioslave. He’s back! Cochise, Like A Stone, Show Me How To Live, I Am The Highway. You’re rocking, you’re crying, you can’t make up your damn mind. Chris is as melodic as the Beatles, he’s as heavy as Sabbath, he’s as haunting as Edgar Allen Poe.

Thank you, Sunshower. Thank you for your love, your friendship, your peerless talent.

The body is weak. The psyche is fragile. Things decay and are gone in time. Gardens turn gray. But, Chris, I know two things that are fucking invincible and will endure forever, your beautiful voice and our love for you.

Stranger Things Season 2 coming earlier than expected

Based on a Super Bowl ad we saw in February, we thought we were getting the highly anticipated Season 2 of the breakout Netflix seris ‘Stranger Things’ on Halloween. Well, apparently we are getting a just little bit sooner. The 80’s based scifi send-up to Spielberg movies is set to bring us back to that creepy Indiana town on October 27th according to a report today by Variety. Um, do we get these preteens in Ghostbuster jumpsuits fighting inter-dimensional monsters? Yeah, I am in with my Eggo waffles.
