NEW MUSIC: Cage the Elephant perform ‘Rubber Ball’ with a choir & acoustic setup

Today Cage the Elephant shared this performance of ‘Rubber Ball’ from their upcoming new LP ‘Unpleeled’ which sees the band do different versions of previously released tracks in a live setting with acoustic versions. These were recorded on the band’s ‘Live & Unpeeled’ tour across the U.S. The band with Kentucky origins, is known for wild loud raucous shows which we’ve seen in person on the Nights We Stole Christmas and Lollapalooza, so see them softer and more intimate is a solid shift yet one they appear to be doing gracefully as ever. The album due out on this Friday is 21 tracks of reworkings of previous songs with covers of  The Stranglers’ “Golden Brown” and Daft Punk’s “Instant Crush”.

Here is another track off ‘Unpeeled’ called ‘Whole Wide World’ which is cover of Brittish new wave artist Wreckless Eric

GAME (NOT) OVER: Nintendo NES Mini is available

One of the hardest to find items over the 2016/17 holiday season was the Nintendo NES Mini Classic, a retro gaming console with HDMI outputs with 30 classic games pre-loaded. It sold out in retail and digital stores with some of them being sold for hundreds of dollars online. According to TIME.com, the console was a surprise success on it’s planned short-term run  selling 2.3 million copies. Nintendo then discontinued the NES Mini in April, while also having big success with the launch of their modern console the Switch.

The slim chance of getting the NES Mini has been reintroduced by ThinkGeek today with a sale that will not last long.  The bundles with the console and special add-ons vary between $140-220. These will sell-out very quickly.
The Japanese-based video game company is not letting the big success to passed up, and our soon going to roll our a retro console retake on Super NES, which was their 16-bit 90’s console. Find out what games are coming out on the the Super NES Classic Edition. And if that was not enough Nintendo fun, they are building theme parks with Universal Studioes, video teasers for that here.

Here is something that might aggrevate some of you about the upcoming Mario Kart game.

Customer tries to return butternut squash that he thought was cheese and man live tweets it

(from mashable.com)

Returning an accidental purchase can be a frustrating endeavor. But this man’s return attempt just might be one of the most unbelievable grocery store fights yet.

A man named James Dator found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time (or perhaps the right place at the right time) when he went to the grocery store recently. Instead of your typical shopping trip, Dator found himself listening to one very confused man trying to return butternut squash because he thought it was a giant box of cubed cheese. (MORE HERE)

BATFLECK LIVES! Ben Affleck responds to rumors he’s leaving Batman

Ben Affleck may soon be done with Batman, according news coming out yesterday though multiple outlets. He’s committed to a solo Batman movie directed by Matt Reeves, with a script handled by Reeves after one written by Affleck and DC movie boss Geoff Johns has been dropped. Affleck was set to direct the film, until Reeves whose has had success with the ‘Planet of the Apes’ franchise and ‘Cloverfield’ was brought on to solve the heavy workload to let Affleck focus on his acting in the film. Now news comes out that Affleck’s Batman will be “ushered out ” from the DC Cinematic Universe according to several unnamed studio sources.

Memes of ‘Sad Affleck’ flurried around the internet as a bad reviews came in for his first Caped Crusader performance in ‘Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice’. Could this have influenced the Oscar-winning Affleck to regret taking on the cowl of Bruce Wayne? That is up for debate. The Hollywood Reporter noted that Affleck’s age at 45 may influence this recent change as he might be close to 50 by the time ‘The Batman’ hits theaters.

Affleck is still maintaining the Batman mantle this week, as he’s at San Diego Comic Con to promote his next Batman performance in November’s ‘Justice League’. And there is no confirmation publicly that he’s leaving Gotman City.

No matter what you though of ‘BvS’, Affleck proved he can deliver as one of the most passionate superheroes in the DCU  and gained universal acclaim in a movie many turned on when it was released. He’s the central figure to unite the team for the upcoming ‘Justice League’. It’s not easy role to take on especially after Christian Bale had great success with ‘the Dark Knight trilogy’.

UPDATE Saturday 7.22.17 3pm: Just today Affleck caused a roar during a panel today at SDCC from fans when he addressed the speculation and reports covered, saying he’s not leaving the DCU anytime soon.

“I’m the luckiest guy in the world. Batman is the f—ing coolest. It’s amazing. I know there was speculation and rumors about me not directing. I would be an ape on the ground for matt reeves. I’m really blown away and excited, and it’s a great time for the [DCEU].”

We will have more of all the nerdy goodies dropping from Comic Con very soon. Come back to 101WKQX.com for more from Comic Con and if you want your own sci fi convention glory, get ready for WIZARD WORLD CHICAGO Aug 24-27th in Rosemont with appearances by stars from ARROW, WWE, LORD OF THE RINGS, STRANGER THINGS, AND MORE

Actor John Heard, ‘Home Alone’ Dad, Dies at 72

I’ll remember him best as a washed up detective who operated under the thumb of Tony Soprano, but most will know John Heard as Kevin’s father in Home Alone.  The 72 year old actor was reportedly recovering from back surgery when he was found dead in his California hotel room.  He also had roles in Big, Beaches, Awakenings, The Pelican Brief, and Sharknado.

NIN Is Back!

Nine Inch Nails dropped their new EP Add Violence today.  It includes 5 songs including the new single “Less Than”.  If you scour the artwork for the EP, you’ll notice a reference to 2022, which goes back to the Year Zero folklore.  I like it!!

Not only did we get new music this week, but NIN also made a return to the stage in Bakersfield, CA on Wednesday.  Check out the clip for a taste of what’s in store for us at Riot Fest!! -wALT
