Lolla 2017: MUSE and Lorde forced off stage during weather evacuation

Day 1 of Lollapalooza as you may have already heard was forced to end early due to rain rolling in off Lake Michigan onto Grant Park, this unfortunately occurred early in the headlining sets of Muse and Lorde on separate ends of the sold-out festival.

Our own Lauren captured video of Muse dealing with the downpour denial of fun in this video.

With the rain still falling heavy, over a 100,000 lollapaloozians headed towards the South Loop and Magnificent Mile area just like they would but they were soaked and soured by the first day of Lolla being dulled by the abrupt early ending.

Muse and Lorde took to social media to calm the upset masses.

Lorde who performed on the north end of Grant Park, noted she was looking into other options for her faithful fans to see her show in a club. Now where that could be under these last minute circumstances is a complete toss up, and if we find out we will let you know through this website, on-air on 101WKQX, and of course, through our social media accounts.

Check out our video interviews from Day 1 with Cage the Elephant, Atlas Gienus, Declab McKenna, and more on. fb,com/101wkqx

Muse does not seem to have the opening to stick around an intimidate club show makeup, Ā as they move on to a planned festival set in Montreal, but singer/guitarists Matt Bellamy expressed his band’s displeasure with the weather-induced issues and a sincere hope to make it right with Chicago and their legion of fans.

Before the rain fell, Walt caught up with Matt Bellamy backstage to talk about the past, present, and future of the ever-rebellious Muse.

Watch Coldplay perform a moving cover of Linkin Park’s ‘Crawling’

During their show recently at MetLife Stadium, Coldplay’s Chris Martin performed a moving cover Linkin Park’s ‘Crawling’ on piano. Though he stumbled and restarted in the song, he noted he knew the performance would end on Youtube and he wanted to do it “respectfully”. He did just that on the second take, showing off the late great Chester Bennington’s lyrics about his struggles with mental health and how touching those words were from someone who has now passed on.

  • Coldplay return to Chicago at Solider Field on August 17th, enter to win tickets here.Ā
  • For more about upcoming memorial events planned to honor Bennington’s life locally and around the world, go here.Ā

During a special tribute episode of ‘the Lockout’ last week, Lauren spoke with Chester’s friend and acclaimed mental health specialist Dr. Drew about the issues of mental helth and suicide prevention. Listen to that here.

The Killers take over the Las Vegas strip on ‘Jimmy Kimmel’

This will pump you up for Lollapalooza! The Killers are the definitive Las Vegas band with their ability to tell a story in with grandeur, sincerity, and hip-shaking pleasure. So who better than to play in from Caesar’s Palace on the Strip last night in a massive concert for ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ on ABC? KillersĀ were featured twice on the show with two new spectacular songs ‘The Man’ and ‘Run For Cover’ off their upcoming album ‘Wonderful Wonderful’, which is due out on September 22nd. The Killers were complimented by extra bombast in backup singers to give those emotive big choruses and the scenery of tempting Vegas lights to make it all seem so much more magical than another band on another sound stage on another late night TV show. If this does not excite you as a Killers fan for their Friday night Lolla headline set, than what will?

Follow 101WKQX all weekend on social media and here at our website, Ā for interviews backstage (maybe even the Killers chatting with), fun stuff in the crowd with some of you, and so much more.

And did you know that Jimmy Kimmel has been like total best buds with the Killers for years, video proof of that here.Ā
