Pearl Jam tease their Wrigley Field concert film

Maybe because we were deep in throws of Lolla land last week, but the beloved JVO turned me onto this teaser video that was posted by Pearl Jam on Twitter last Thursday that features footage of the band’s magical shows at Wrigley Field last year which is being presented as a concert film called ‘Let’s Play Two’. The teaser features the deep voice of Eddie Vedder proclaiming “the first time you step into Wrigley Field, it’s like stepping into Oz.” Yes, if you don’t know Eddie Vedder is the world’s most famous Cubs fan or is it, Bill Murray?

If you are itching to find out more about the movie because you simply don’t have enough Cubs relared fun in your life, go here.

OkCupid doesn’t let users see who visits their profile anymore

OkCupid has been near the top of the online dating movement that has changed social interaction in our modern age, but this past week they made a massive change to their website for users by not allowing them to see who visits their profile anymore. In a blog post the company stated the new initiative is to give users  no ” distraction of visitors, you can now focus on the people who like what they see on your profile and really want to get to know you. And when you’re focused on those people, your chances of higher quality connections improves.”

An e-mail sent to users last week was a bit more direct saying “What’s the value of a visitor? Short answer: zero. You can now connect with even more people because you don’t have to feel shy about showing up as a visitor — and neither do they.”  On OKC’s Facebook page they have been flooded with complaints and debates about the change. Some feel it does not let you monitor ‘creeps’ who could be returning after you don’t ‘ghost’ them after an initial message and others complain the maneuver is just meant to push OKC users who not using the website for free to subscribe to the ‘A-List’ premium version.

The Verge did an in-depth article breaking down the entire fracas over the flirting and how the change has many users claiming they will cancel their premium subscriptions and delete their accounts. No matter what you think of the visitor change, OkCupid has been very transparent in these new rollouts and how they adjust the experience for users.

Watch ‘Kim Jong-Un’ Threaten To Nuke The Wieners Circle In ‘Colbert’ Opening Bit

(from chicagoist.com)

What do you do when so much nuclear sabre-rattling has humanity looking a lot like the blind man teetering at the precipice at the end of Akira Kurosawa’s Ran? Well, you can always flip on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and try to point and laugh into the abyss.

Those who took that path last night were treated to a well-placed Chicago reference, as Colbert—who of course cut his comedic chops in Chicago—cold-opened Tuesday night’s episode with Kim Jong-Un’s “response” to new sanctions. First on the list with a nuke-strike threat? Our very own foul-mouthed hot-dog purveyors The Wieners Circle. (We know it’s a divisive place but, c’mon, supreme leader; that’s a bit much.)

Bill Murray moved to tears after watching new ‘Groundhog Day’ Broadway musical

(from rollingstone.com)

Bill Murray attended the Broadway adaptation of his 1993 comedy classic Groundhog Day Tuesday night, with the actor reportedly moved to tears by the new musical.

New York Times documented Murray’s visit to the August Wilson Theater to see the musical for the first time. Throughout the evening, Murray was gracious with awestruck attendees, posing for selfies, leaving the bartending staff generous tips and even offering two young kids some of his Junior Mints.

Following the performance, Murray was asked why the musical, and the film, resonated so much. “The idea that we just have to try again. We just have to try again,” Murray said. “It’s such a beautiful, powerful idea.”

One of your favorite all time movies and mine as well. I’m not normally into musicals and this may not be my thing either but if Bill Murray was moved to tears I at least have to give it my approval. Somebody go and tell me if it’s any good.

Disney pulling out of Netflix, to launch it’s own streaming service

Disney is pulling it’s content off Netflix ending and it’s distribution agreement with the video platform, to launch their own digital video service in 2019. The massive entertainment and media company made the news public today in their latest earnings report. They are purchased a 33% stake in the streaming company, BamTech as muscle for it’s new yet-to-be-named video service. The Disney video service and will include the upcoming ‘Toy Story 4’, ‘Frozen 2’ and a lot of new original content. It’s not clear when exactly Disney movies and shows will get yanked off the Net of Flix, but it’s going to happen.

This shows that the TV world is ever changing, and this is going to be a huge change that will directly affect several on-going Marvel series like ‘Daredevil’, ‘Jessica Jones’ and the upcoming ‘Inhumans’ which are owned by Disney. This of course means that Disney’s animated features like ‘Moana’ and others will also be off Netflix soon as well.  In 2012, Netflix made a partnership with Disney which helped continue to make the VOD service to go-to for TV watching. Disney continues to have it’s own Disney Channel on TV cable systems across the country.

Disney is also launching a new ESPN video streaming service in early 2018. The sports platform, which will feature about 10,000 events each year, will have content from the MLB, NHL, MLS, collegiate sports and tennis’ Grand Slam events.

This clearly not good news for Netflix, especially the recent negative financial news that the company is $20 billion dollars in debt. Screen Junkies News breaks down all the info on how Netflix is facing some very harsh challenges with their massive bets.

FOX looking into reviving ‘King of the Hill’

‘King of the Hill’ may be coming back to FOX. Speaking at the Television Critics Association on Tuesday, Fox Television Group chairman and CEO Dana Walden stated the network has had “preliminary conversations” with show creators Greg Daniels and Mike Judge about bringing the Hill family back.

King of the Hill ran for 13 seasons and more than 250 episodes from 1997 to 2009. The series revolved around the middle-class Hill family in Arlen, Texas, and touched on their everyday life and incorporated political humor. With increased political conflicts, it would be interesting where Judge’s conservative Hank Hill would fit into modern comedy climates.

Here is Frederator’s 20 minute dig into the show was developed, all the real life things that inspired the show, and much more.

Liam Gallagher wants to get Oasis back together

The Oasis reunion drama continues today with Liam Gallagher stating once again that he would want see the band reunite but only a specific circumstance with his estranged brother Noel would make it work.

The Manchester singer whose new solo album comes out October 6th, cleared the air during a podcast interview with Rolling Stone.

“The English press seem to think that I’m going ’round giving the fans hope and then in the same breath, or the next interview, shooting them down. All I said the other day on that Beats Radio was before we get back together, if we get ever back together, we’d have to become brothers and friends again. And then I imagine once that happens, and we start hanging out or whatever, and we’re mates, and we’re talking, and we’re each on a nice respectful level, I guess there would be, inevitably, we’d go, ‘F**k it, should we take the f**kin’ band out for a spin, go on tour?’”

Apparently Liam thinks that his brother also wants the reunion.

“I know he [Noel] doesn’t want to be supporting U2 and playing a third of a stadium half-empty when he could do it himself with his brother. I would prefer to be speaking about an Oasis album than a Liam solo album. And I know Noel Gallagher would. We’re better together.”

Liam made headlines this weekend at Lollapalooza in Grant Park, when he abruptly ended his set walking off stage 4 songs in. We saw the whole thing from the media area at Lolla and it was just awkward. Lauren interviewed  ‘Liam’ backstage (sort of) to understand why he walked off.

Chicago is Restaurant City of the Year

Bon Appetit magazine awarded its annual “Restaurant City of the Year” honors to Chicago today. Just one week after four Chicago restaurants landed on the mag’s list of 50 best new restaurants in the country (no other city had more), and fewer than three months after a similarly smitten Conde Nast Traveler named Chicago the Best Restaurant City In America.

“Where other cities fall into soulless trend cycles, Chicago has a way of generating distinctively personal restaurants, writes Julia Kramer, a native Chicagoan and onetime food critic at Time Out Chicago, in Bon Appetit. “So, SF and L.A., this might hurt a little, but here’s all the proof you need that the Midwest is best.”  More from Chicagoist HERE

Amazing honor, but I think “Restaurant City of All Time” is more fitting.  What is your favorite restaurant?  Tell us on facebook.
