This 8 Year Old Kid is Better Than YOUR Cover Band

Meet Linc.  He’s reportedly been playing guitar since February.  (That’s about HALF A YEAR, remember?)  And already, he’s been able to compile a YouTube channel of about 40 songs, competed against much older kids in a junior high talent competition, and formed his own band, Color Killer.  Essentially, he’s accomplished more in the second grade than I have done in a lifetime.  FML.  Behold:

EDIT:  After publishing this article, Linc’s Dad reached out to me….he’s been playing since February of 2016.  So he’s got 1.5 years under his belt.  Still impressive as hell, IMHO.)

No surprise that Billie Joe Armstrong pulled him on stage in Massachusetts to sing “Longview” recently.  As witnessed in Chicago at Wrigley Field, Green Day has been pulling kids of all ages up on stage to play/sing live with the band.  Watch Linc take on ALL the instruments for “American Idiot.”

Something tells me we will be hearing more from this kid in the future.  — [eric]

Here’s How To Join Your Favorite Bands in Helping Harvey Victims

It is great to see many of our favorite bands pledging to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey.  Scroll through and catch up on what they are doing…and don’t forget, we ask you to consider texting HARVEY to 90999.  Doing that will donate $10 to the American Red Cross relief fund that directly helps those affected by this devastating storm.  It will be years until things are back to normal in that area.  Every consideration we can give helps.  — [eric]

Weezer:

The band stands with Texas.  That’s the direct message on a t-shirt available for fans to purchase, with 100% of the profits going to the American Red Cross Hurricane Harvey relief fund.

Blink-182:

The band created a limited-edition tee in which all the funds will go to the American Red Cross Hurricane Harvey relief fund.

In addition, Mark Hoppus is encouraging people to clean out their closets through his clothing line, Hi My Name Is Mark.  He teamed up with a skate shop in Houston, who will be distributing the donations on the ground.

Fall Out Boy:

The band announced that all the proceeds from their November show in Houston will benefit Hurricane Harvey victims.  Plus, they also made a special Texas-themed t-shirt to help those affected in the area.

Bleachers:

Jack Antonoff specifically targeted helping the Montrose Center in Houston — a center for LGBTQ residents to go in search of counseling, substance abuse treatment, and advocacy for the community.  Jack pledged to match up to $10,000 in donations.

Coldplay:

A few days after being forced to cancel their Houston date, Coldplay put together a country-music inspired tune called “Houston #1.”  While the band says it would never be played again, there always remains the possibility that it could get released as a charity single, right?

Scientists find obvious news that attending concerts makes you happy

An Australian scientific study with a sample of a 1000 people has concluded that people who regularly go to concerts are happier with their lives than those who don’t.

The findings revealed that engaging with music by dancing or attending musical events was associated with higher (Subjective Well Being) than for those who did not engage with music in these forms. The findings also emphasised the important role of engaging with music in the company of others with regard to (Subjective Well Being), highlighting an interpersonal feature of music.

Yes, I think with being so spoiled in Chicago with festivals like Lollapalooza, Riot Fest, and Piqniq plus wonderful venues like the Metro, Bottom Lounge, and the Aragon makes this all feel obvious but maybe for those that have to travel a little bit further to a show, it may not. Get in the car, get on the train, go the show. You won’t regret it.

In the video above that I did a few years ago with Consequences of Sound, about what people do NOT enjoy about going to concerts. Yes, we talk about people spilling beer and other concert no-nos.

Warner Bros wants Leonardo Dicaprio for the Joker

The Joker is one of the most engaging comic book character who has leaped off the page into movies and TV with each incarnation getting nerdy anticipation and glee from fans of Batman’s arch nemesis in the DC Universe. Last week, Deadline broke the news that Warner Bros Studios is working on a stand-alone Joker movie. There is more, lot more. Yeah, I know I am also freaking out a bit.

This week brings even more news that Warner Bros is seeking to not have a blockbuster success tied to an established comic book character like the Joke, but they also want a film that will have ‘critical acclaim’ as well. That;s why the Hollywood Reporter wants the names in the movie business that attract the allure of delivering the regard of critics, Martin Scorsese and Leonardo Dicaprio.

Yes, the pair have worked together on several successful films including ‘The Aviator’ and ‘ Gangs of New York’. The idea going around is that Scosese would produce the film, which would help in getting Dicaprio to assume the role of the clown prince of crime in all of his chaotic glory. THR reports that ‘The Hangover’ director Todd Phillips would direct the potential project, but just take this as ‘talk’ until it’s actually announced and official.

It’s worth noting this film would be a separate from the DC Cinematic Universe, and act under a different label. Someone who is not happy about this, is the established actor who just dawned the green hair in last year’s ‘Suicide Sqaud’: Jared Leto. I don’t blame him, but he’s going to delight us with new 30 Seconds to Mars music pretty soon. Listen to their latest single here.

No deals have been signed by Scorsese or Dicaprio, but if you are movie fan with a mutual appreciation of Oscar fare like the work these two big names are known for and you love superhero movies , this has got to be exciting to hear.

Drivers Form A Human Chain To Save A Man As Floodwaters Sweep Away His SUV

Maritza Castillo and her husband were on their way to help a family member — but they ended up saving the life of a stranger. The couple was on Interstate-10 in Houston on Tuesday, en route to pick up Castillo’s brother who’d been flooded in. But the pair couldn’t reach him because the roads were submerged. “We got turned around,” Castillo told CNN by phone. As they waited in stalled traffic, they watched a horrifying scene unfold in front of them. Floodwaters had picked up an elderly man’s SUV and were sweeping it away. “My heart started beating fast,” Castillo said. Without pause, the couple and dozens of other drivers jumped into the water to help. “Somebody said, ‘Let’s form a chain.'” So, they did. READ MORE
