PARTY! Watch Andrew W.k. confirm new music is coming

Could he be the prom king of Riot Fest? What does it mean to enter a new party universe? These questions are all pitched to the party king himself, Andrew W.K. who bought the revelry to Day 3 of Riot Fest this past Sunday in Douglas Park. Kevin shared the PMA Party energy backstage prior to his radical set on the Heather Owens Stage.

The biggest nugget we grabbed in our chat above with AWK is that he is finally releasing a new album, his first since 55 Cadillac and the Japan-exclusive Gundam Rockin in 2009. The  yet-to-be-titled album will be out next year on March 2nd.

Meanwhile Andrew WK and his full slamming band will hit the road with a Chicago party at the Vic on October 21st.

WWE legend Bobby ‘the Brain’ Heenan passes away

Wrestling fans and stars received sad news on Sunday with the news that WWE Hall of Famer Bobby ‘the Brain’ Heenan has passed away at the age of 73. He had long battle with cancer in the early 2000’s, damaging his ability to speak, and he continued to battle numerous health issues.

Starting out of Chicago, Heenan worked his way up the pro wrestling ladder from selling drinks at wrestling shows to eventually getting in the ring himself. He would compete in the American Wrestling Association in the Midwest, evolving into a wise-talking manager who would go on to support some of the biggest villains in the WWE. From Andre the Giant to ‘the Nature Boy’ Ric Flair, the Brain was always talking a behind a superstar and talking fans into the building to see a big main event.

Heenan was one of the most valuable figures in WWE’s national expansion and popularity in the 80’s and 90’s. His silver tongue antagonism and ability to get ire of any audience made him ‘the Weasel’ you wanted to see get whomped on. The spectacle that was Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant for the WWE World Championship at Wrestlemania III in front of 93,000 was amplified by Heenan’s masterful personality.

The Brain’s talents were so captivating that he also served as a color commentator with fellow Hall of Famer Gorilla Monsoon on WWE Televison shows and pay-per-view events. The pair made a comedic tag team who zingers that made every show feel special and fun. Heenan will be regarded as the undisputed greatest manager in WWE history. You can debate about who’s the best wrestler, there is no debate that Heenan was THE manager.

Watch Linkin Park’s moving new video for ‘One More Light, Tribute show announced

Today Linkin Park posted an extremely emotional video for the song ‘One More Light’. The video is the number 1 trending video on Youtube and has already brought in more than half million views in a few hours. It features the late Chester Bennington performing right in front of fans with cell phone lights glowing up an arena, interspersed with footage from the band’s career dating back to the late 90’s. It’s a moving piece of art that brings this already tense ballad into a new perspective considering Bennington’s tragic suicide death in July.

The music world and LP fans are still reeling from Bennington’s death and today his widow Talinda shared a video of the singer filmed just “36 hours” before his passing. She did this to show a light into “what depression looks like” and how it’s never obvious or easily visible.

The video was directed by LP members Joe Hahn and Mike Shinoda. In the video post they expressed more insight on the song and this video.“It has been incredibly emotional to work on this, and especially to watch it. I feel that by doing it, we not only faced some of our biggest fears, but it enabled us to use our talents to bring some light to people that need it. As we move forward to the Hollywood Bowl show and beyond, I think about the people that connect with the band, outside and inside our circle. This video is a gesture of good will to the people that want that connection.” says Joe Hahn. “One More Light was written with the intention of sending love to those who lost someone. We now find ourselves on the receiving end. In memorial events, art, videos, and images, fans all over the world have gravitated towards this song as their declaration of love and support for the band and the memory of our dear friend, Chester. We are so very grateful and can’t wait to see you again.” says Mike Shinoda.

Today the band also announced a tribute show to Chester Bennington set to take place at the Hollywood Bowl in California on October 22nd. More info that here.  LP is expected to be joined on stage by fellow musicians and guest as they perform in celebration of Chester’s life and career.

On July 25th, when Linkin Park would have been performing in the 101WKQX Lounge in Chicago, we celebrated the life of Chester Bennington with over an hour of his music and words, insight from Dr. Drew, your calls and lots of love. Thank you for listening <3 Lauren O’Neil
