A Seattle musician has posted four cassette tapes that he says were personally given to him by Kurt Cobain, according to NME.
John Purkey has uploaded each cassette to separate YouTube videos, all of which begin with the guitarist explaining the backstory on each. Some material may sound familiar — those songs have been remastered and released before. But you can check out the just released raw form below:
I was so excited to premiere the brand new song by Jack White ‘Connected By Love’ earlier! You can watch the video right here:
And get the single HERE.
So far Jack is headlining Shaky Knees Fest in Atlanta, Boston Calling, Gov Ball in NYC and he says “More on the way…”

Talinda Bennington once again expressed her gratitude for fans leaving gifts in remembrance of the lead singer of Linkin Park. Just one problem: people are leaving them at house where he died, which is not occupied by anyone in the family anymore:
We have moved into a new home…and the well meaning fans that still come to the house, are disturbing our tenants. We (our family & the band) are deciding on the best place for a permanent memorial. It’s a big decision and your respect & patience is appreciated. We love you all
— Talinda Bennington (@TalindaB) January 8, 2018
Until the Linkin Park family can figure out the location of that memorial, they are asking fans to either leave their gifts at the band’s label, Warner Bros. — or consider making a donation to the One More Light fund. Which I can totally get behind…because I would like a place of peace to leave remembrances over the place where Chester succumb to his darkness.
In other news: Talinda says they are planning a special memorial for Chester’s birthday — March 20th. We’ll keep you posted on that. — [eric]
Multiple women have accused actor and director James Franco of sexual misconduct in several Twitter posts in the last few days. The accusations follow Franco publicly supporting the #TimesUp movement within the Hollywood film and TV industry to crackdown on sexual misconduct. The ‘Disaster Artist’ star wore a symbolic ‘Times Up’ pin on Sunday during the 75th annual Golden Globes, where he won the award for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy.
At this time, Franco has not responded to the allegations which started to grow online in the last 24 hours following the Golden Globes.
Cute #TIMESUP pin James Franco. Remember the time you pushed my head down in a car towards your exposed penis & that other time you told my friend to come to your hotel when she was 17? After you had already been caught doing that to a different 17 year old?
— Violet Paley (@VioletPaley) January 8, 2018
A couple weeks ago, James offered me & a few other girls an overdue, annoyed, convenient phone “apology”. I don’t accept, but maybe some other people’s lives would be made easier if he donated all of his earnings from “The Disaster Artist” to @RAINN01.
— Violet Paley (@VioletPaley) January 9, 2018
Sarah Tither-Kaplan, actress who recently worked on one of Franco’s films also called him out online.
Hey James Franco, nice #timesup pin at the #GoldenGlobes , remember a few weeks ago when you told me the full nudity you had me do in two of your movies for $100/day wasn't exploitative because I signed a contract to do it? Times up on that!
— Sarah Tither-Kaplan🌈 (@sarahtk) January 8, 2018
The contempt for Franco winning an award and appearing this week’s Golden Globes complicates this issue is also being expressed.
everyone in town knows that james franco is a creep and that stories about his behavior were about to break. the hollywood foreign press knew it too but gave him an award anyway.
— Katy Stoll (@katystoll) January 8, 2018
Consequence of Sound and the Independent also have the latest updates on this story as it develops.
The annual Consumer Electronic Show is going down this week with all of the big tech companies like Sony, Google, and Samsung rolling out the latest innovations in everything from gaming, televisions, and more. There is still a lot of developers showing off other gadgets and gizmos (sound like someone’s dad right?) like this robot we’ve been waiting for: the robot that gets you a beer from the fridge.
The beer-bot can also get your floor cleaned with a vacuum as well?! How do we get one of these at Windy City Brewhaha on March 10th? ( Get your tickets for that here) This robot will be on sale later this year but it won’t be cheap, with the estimated cost around what it would cost for an overseas family vacation.
The Verge also covered other exciting new devices from CES like a shirts you can wear as controller in video games.
OK. Here’s how this works: I pick four iconic music videos from a band. You have to pick the BEST ONE. Easy, right? In this case, maybe not so much considering *I* had some difficulty with the concept of….the best.
In fact, I specifically left out what one could argue is their best music video of all time. You will not find “All The Small Things” on this list, simply because its popularity would skew the voting so badly. People hold that video is such high regard that this Video 4/Pack can be considered….the best of the rest. So here we go, without further ado:
A music video that mocks, yet at the same time shows the struggles of the high school experience? What a perfect place for our journey to begin with the band. Well, for THIS list, anyways. This was actually the band’s third music video. Mark Hoppus plays…Mark. Who is in search of the perfect girlfriend, played by Alyssa Milano (bonus points!).
Mark actually wrote this song about Josie, a girl who never really existed….except as the concept of what a perfect girlfriend for him might be like.
So, it’s hard to say that a song from an album called “Take Off Your Pants And Jacket” was a step towards maturity, but indeed this song — and video — has to be considered exactly that kind of move. Tom DeLonge started penning this song at 16, shortly after his parents told him they were divorcing; Mark, for the record, also comes from a broken home. And you can see the metaphor come to life below.
But in 2001, the band was convinced that the destruction in the video evoked the tragedy of September 11th’s attacks…so they made an alternate version of kids screaming in an intact mansion. This is the original version…the literal “broken home” version by Samuel Bayer.
Without a doubt, “All The Small Things” is the music video that catapulted the band to stardom. But doesn’t the pop culture and music references in it feel….well, a bit dated?
Now take a look at an equally popular song from the same album, Enema of the State. THIS video captures what the band is about…a band that, if I may quote, doesn’t “take themselves so seriously.” Running through the streets of L.A. in the nude, upsetting the residents, and infiltrating the popular TV shows of the day. Hell, when porn star (and album cover girl) Janine Lindemulder makes her appearance, you get the sense this is the band’s “see if we can get THAT in our video” moment. This is the height of blink-182 fame, all wrapped up in a 2:26 video.
Ultimately, the band DID grow up, get older (get more mature?). Musically, it is evident in the Box Car Racer and Angels & Airwaves side projects. A different side of the group was also revealed with the song I Miss You. First, it was the band’s first attempt at acoustic instruments. Secondly, it had a much more serious and dark tone — visually, too. Tom DeLonge sums up the creation of this song beautifully:
“I think with this song we were rebelling against the pop side of our band, which we’d had for many years. We wanted to do something that was a little darker and more atmospheric and I guess people would have been surprised when they first heard it.”
The music video was clearly darker, as well:
So, there you have it. Which of these four videos do you choose from blink-182? — [eric kristensen]

WLS-AM reported it today, the Chicago Bears have a new coach in Matt Nagy. The 39 year old comes from the Kansas City Chiefs where he recently served as offensive coordinator. Bears fan have to some relief to have a fresh leader for the Monsters of the Midway following three lousy seasons under John Fox.

Jack White was announced to headline the 2018 Governors Ball fest last week, now news comes today that he will join Queens of the Stone Age and the National as headliners for this year’s Shakey Knees fest in Atlanta, Georgia in May. The lineup also includes comedic rock titans Tenacious D, former Talking Heads leader David Bryne, Vance Joy, Fleet Foxes, Jimmy Eat World, Andrew WK, and many more. Another noteworthy band on this lineup is the reunited Distillers in their first announced festival gig in many years.
Of the lineups announced for the 2018 American festivals so far, this one seems the most alternative rock friendly. Here is the complete line-up below.
No, you can’t smoke pot at one of the biggest music fests and the fest is saying that officially. On the Q&A portion of it’s official site, the festival declares “Sorry bro. Marijuana and marijuana products aren’t allowed inside [the festival]. Even in 2018 and beyond. If that changes, we’ll update this answer.”
As of the first day of this new year (Jan. 1), anyone over the age of 21 in California is legally allowed to smoke weed on private properties, as well as at licensed businesses — an expansion of the previously legalized medical marijuana in the state. There has been debate how this will be regulated, but many assumed a music festival in a state where recreational weed just became might be friendlier to it, but that does not seem to be the case here.
The city of Indio which hosts Coachella still has to abide by state law which now allows you to possess a small amount of bud for personal use, but you can’t smoke it out in the open. Now whether or not this will stop festival-goers from lighting up, is to be determined.
How do you feel about it? Let us know on social media .
Coachella 2018 goes down the weekend of April 13, and will be finishing off the next weekend of April 20. Check out the full lineup here
I never thought life was leading me down this alternative rock radio path to share a story about….cosmetics. Yet, here we are. [2018, what a time to be alive!]
Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong is teaming up with Kat Von D on an eyeliner….and you’ll have to excuse me for leaning heavily on direct quotes from an article covering something I’m not well versed in…that creates that “smudge-inspired Billie Joe look.” It has a formula that goes on “creamy” and allows you to “build, blend, smudge, and smoke it out.”
The project was inspired by a photo of Sex Pistol Sid Vicious and girlfriend Nancy handcuffed to one-another….

David Letterman will be back on your TV soon with an new original talk show on Netflix. The show will be called ‘My Next Guest’ and will feature the former ‘Late Show’ host having conversations with stars from movies, music, and interesting people like Barrack Obama. The first episode will be available on Friday January 12th.
And just because, here is Letterman presenting the Foo Fighters on his last episode hosting ‘the Late Show’. Letterman tells a heartwarming story about why the band mattered so much to him and how one song from the Foos has been so meaningful to him since he endured a heart surgery.
And here is a countdown of the best moments on Letterman’s late night shows on NBC and CBS.
It always sucks.. so you will get it on March 1st.

This lineup is going to be very scrutinize as it will be the last Warped Tour to go coast-to-coast. So expect a lot of happiness and internet bitching no matter what the lineup is come March 1st.
A very vocal fan group online is literally petitioning in hopes of getting My Chemical Romance to reunite for the final Warped run, and it’s no small group as they have drawn over,17,000 signatures since starting the campaign this past fall after it was announced the 2018 Warped would be the last. You can sign and follow the petition here.
Warped Tour makes it’s last Chicago stop on July 21st at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater.
