Dance pop duo the Chainsmokers released a fresh single ‘Sick Boy’ this week, but the new track ruffled the feathers of Twenty One Pilots fans who took their emotions to social media. The ‘Clique’ seems to think the track is a rip-off of the beloved Ohio alternative band and the accusation seems to be picking up steam.
Here’s the crack of what people are saying online.
The Chainsmokers new song is literally a ripoff of twenty one pilots. It went from worse to worser! pic.twitter.com/fTFja554I8
the new chainsmokers song is too much like twenty one pilots and it makes me angry cause twenty one pilots are so wonderfully original and the chainsmokers are pissing all over their sound
So does ‘Sick Boy’ actually sound like a TOP track? Some have pointed to ‘Heathans’ as the specific song that it takes the most from, while others have tagged ‘Fairly Local’ as an inspiration for it as well.
We haven’t even hit Championship Sunday yet, but we are getting a look at some of the ads we’ll see during the big game on February 4th.
Morgan Freeman and Peter Dinklage are facing off in an ad that promotes Doritos’ new spicy Blaze chips and Mountain Dew’s clear Ice drink.
Matt Damon’s Water.org is teaming up with the beer Stella Artois.
M&M’s will have its first Super Bowl ad in three years. Here’s a teaser.
Skittles is doing something different. Their 60 second ad will only be shown to one person, but they will be airing his reaction during the game. Taste the rainbow?
If your deodorant doesn’t get you through the day, your DIET might be to blame. Here are six foods that can make you stink . . .
1. Red meat. It’s hard to digest and leaves residue behind in your digestive tract, which mixes with bacteria and comes out in your sweat. A study in 2006 found women were more attracted to guys who were vegetarians, because their sweat smelled better.
2. Alcohol. Most of it gets metabolized by your liver. But a tiny amount comes out in your sweat. So you end up smelling like a stale beer.
3. Fish can make SOME people smell bad. There’s a metabolic disorder called “fish odor syndrome” where it makes your sweat smell fishy. It’s rare though, and you’d probably know if you had it.
4. Broccoli and asparagus because they both have a lot of sulfur. They’re good for you though, so don’t stop eating them. If they make you smell bad, try cooking them in boiling water instead of steaming them. That should eliminate most of the smell.
5. Garlic. It has another sulfuric compound called allicin. (Pronounced like the name Alison.) It’s not necessarily a bad smell though. A few studies have found that some people are actually turned on by it.
6. Coffee. It might not make you smell worse on its own. But stimulants like caffeine make you sweat more. So you could end up sweating out more of those OTHER odors we just talked about.
The Cubician managed to solve a Rubik’s Cube in about 20 seconds while using it to play the”Canting Song” from Star Wars at the same time. I feel like this is the kind of person who could figure out how to get us to Mars if they refocused their efforts.
In case you need a refresher on the “Cantina Song.”
A fight broke out in the front row of the Killers show at the UC Tuesday night. Brando Flowers stopped the show two songs in to break it up. Good news is they didnt move on to the next song. They jumped right back into “Somebody Told Me.”
At about 7:10 last night, a meteor flew across the Chicago area in a fiery flash hitting the earth causing a magnitude 2 earthquake, confirmed by The United States Geological Survey.
The American Meteor Society received about 200 reports of a “fireball meteor” seen over Illinois and other states.
I don’t know if I am more bummed that I missed seeing an actual meteor, or concerned that I DIDN’T EVEN NOTICE THE SKY LIGHT UP LIKE THE FOURTH OF JULY AND/OR FEEL A FRIGGIN EARTHQUAKE!!!
Bad neighbors suck. Trent Reznor is dealing with a problem neighbor and now has a restraining order against Nader Afshar that will keep him at least 10 yards away from Trent, his family and any employees at his home.
Trent said “there have been a series of escalating and increasingly hostile, threatening, irrational and harassing encounters” between him and Afshar. Including “erratically raced his black Mustang around our cul-de-sac at high speeds, revving his engine, and saying Satan’s going to get me.” Trent has also encountered the man “half-dressed, apparently intoxicated, wearing a Santa hat.” But, it sounds like what pushed him to get a restraining order was a fight with his neighbor about where Trent puts his trash cans. Check out more from TMZ.
Billie, Mike, and Tre share stories of performing in small clubs on their way up with surprise strippers and how they made it to top in this EXCLUSIVE Lounge Press Conference
Green Day has headlined Lollapalooza, packed Wrigley Field, and is still after their lengthy career one of biggest rock bands in the world. which means big crowds. They are now accustomed to performing in front of massive audiences all around the world, but last night Green Day members Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt played with some of their best musical friends played to less than 200 people at the Ivy Room in Alabny, New York. It was not exactly ‘Green Day’ but rather ‘The Coverups’. Yes. that’s right these Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Famers just wanted to let loose and play their favorite songs from Tom Petty.the Ramones, Psychedelic Furs, the Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Cheap Trick, and more. The show was a ‘secret’ and did not advertise any connection to Green Day, so those they knew the good word got one memorable night of epic live intimate rock.
This is so organic and fun to see musicians who are so purely connected to their musical roots after so many years of otherworldly success.
And thanks to a faithful Youtube channel AdmiralNeeds who filmed the show and posted the whole wondrous show online. The poster also shared tidbits about the show including highlights from the between-song banter, what the vibe was like in the room, and the set-list from this wild night.
Other Tidbits:
Billie Joe: I’ve done some time down here in Albany… 😛
The Ivy Room is a bar and music venue which has a capacity of only 196 people. There were about 100 friends and family in attendance and essentially a private show, but was also open to fans who were able to figure out the clues the band left on their social media pages. Admission was only $10, and with it, we also got a raffle ticket. Many joke prizes were raffled off, including such items as a sex doll, personal humidifier, drink coupons and a penis enlarging pump, lol. The grand prize was a very nice Les Paul guitar. The Coverups, Billie Joe, Mike Dirnt, Jason White, Bill Schneider, Lee Bothwick and Chris Dugan, all hung out after the show, talking with the fans and taking pictures.
For ‘American Girl’, Jason Beebout of Samiam, a punk band from Berkeley, California, sang the lead vocals while fans in the 1st row held up the lyrics sheet for him.
Billie Joe (before ‘I Fought the Law’): The (sex doll) looks just like him! lol Jason White: I think this bar band thing could work out for us… 😛
Many of the fans recognized each other from previous Green Day concerts. Some even recognized each other from the concert at 924 Gilman the previous night! However, because the Ivy Room could only allow in fans 21 years old and over, some fans could not make it.
Billie Joe (after ‘Surrender’): Yes… We are all right… It’s going to be all right… with all the fu*ked up sh*t going on right now… it’s going to be all right. It’s like when you’re having a night terror, but it’s happening 24 hours a day… 😛

Billy Corgan getting the original Smashing Pumpkins back together has been in the works for what feels like years now. Drummer Jimmy Chamberlin rejoined Corgan a few years back for a successful tour with Marilyn Manson, and over the last year guitarist James Iha also joined Corgan on stage for sporadic gigs in 2016. (We hope you knew they were a Chicago band, we really hope you knew that.) So when Corgan posted this pic on Instagram of Chamberlin and Iha with him in a recording stuido, it once again sparked the flames of Pumpkin fandom.
The missing piece would be bassist D’arcy Wretzky whose been absent from the public eye for some time, apparently has started playing music and based on this 2016 interview is intrigued at a Smashing Pumpkins reunion. Corgan himself has been publicly open to the idea for some time now, but time will tell what becomes of this band that grew to become a worldwide sensation.
Meanwhile Corgan has been busy with other ventures including producing IMPACT Wrestling on Pop TV, only to get into a nasty legal battle with the company before purchasing the National Wrestling Association. Corgan, an avid pro wrestling fanatic is developing some pro wrestling content with the NWA, the oldest wrestling promotion in the world. Add on top of it, Corgan opened a comfy little tea shop, Madame Zuzu’s in Highland Park, IL. He even did a special Christmas song on WGN TV back in Decemeber, watch that here.
Flaming Hot Cheetos, the hot aggressive snack has been a delightful singe to our collective tongues for some time but who would ever want them all over their bodies? Youtube loveables Good Mythical Morning apparently are those people. They took dozens of bags of spicy crunch and whittled it down to a red hot dust, and covered one of their hosts Rhett in it. Yep, it’s quite the site to see.
Is this very entertaining? Yes, it is which is why it was trending on the video platform today at #6.
They reference in this video one of the all-time best meme videos: the falling grap lady.
Jack White lit up the internet and our airwaves last week with the release of an engaging soulful new song ‘Connected by Love’ off his upcoming album ‘Boarding House Research’ which comes out March 23rd. Today, the Detroit rock maverick announced a North American tour which has our fair city omitted.
White will roll across North America and hit up Europe, then return to do another leg of dates in the States. The very provocative and curious omission of Chicago on tour, combined with the fact that White is playing Minnesota on August 6th. That’s an day trip from Chicago’s Grant Park which hosts THE festival, Lollapalooza from August 2nd to the 5th. So connect those big glowing dots for yourself. We are not alone here as our buds Consequence of Sound are also making this assumption, and they note White is already confirmed to headline the Shakey Kneess fest in Atlanta and Governor’s Ball in New York this year.
If you want to make a trip to other midwest cities, White will be in Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Milwaukee in April.
Now maybe this a reach, but a guy can dream a big dream!
There may still be slushy puddles and frozen car doors throughout Chicagoland right now, but ideas like this gives us something to look forward to the sun-kissed masses shaking asses on our lakefront at Lolla.

For quite a few members of the 101WKQX audience, cassette tapes were once the king of music portability. Then came digital. And away went the Walkmans and tape decks.
NOW, while the sales percentage increase sounds impressive (136%), the actual number of cassette tapes sold last year was about 90,000…which makes up less than a tenth of a percent of all music sold. So what gives? Is the beginning of another love affair with an analog delivery system, much like those who swear by their record player?
The more likely answer is a temporary wave of nostalgia — triggered by a movie franchise.
Those that have seen Guardians of the Galaxy know that a mix tape plays heavy into the story. Peter Quill/Star-Lord’s Walkman and mix tape were so popular that the movie soundtrack was eventually put out on tape. It would seem this would be the catalyst of the resurgence. And why not? A film with a cult following naturally could drive the resurgence or development of a cult product.
This phenomenon was enough to propel the importance of Cassette Store Day. And The White Stripes jumped on board this wave by releasing their first three albums on tape late last year. A group whose founder — Jack White — is smack dab in the middle of the far more successful resurgence of vinyl with his Third Man Records company. That resurgence, however, wasn’t always viewed as a business that would maintain. So it is possible cassettes follow the same trajectory? Or will they remain a fun, fringe product?
And as of now, that’s all cassettes seem to be at this point — a one-off . After all, there are far better music delivery devices out there — ones that don’t playback at slightly different speeds, degrade, or worst of all, require a pencil to spool back inside. — [eric]

The band did cancel shows in the United States, including one in Chicago, last year because Dolores was dealing with ongoing back issues.
